Brought my vehicle to my mechanic because of noise that recently appeared in my car. To my surprise the mechanic stated that my engine is completely failing and would require an entire new engine. I purchased this car less than two years ago with an estimated 79,000 miles. Vehicle currently has an estimated 112,000 miles. Never missed a service interval for the vehicle. Now several components of the engine are completely failing.

I’m reporting a serious safety issue with the balance shaft sprocket in my mercedes-benz S550 (m273 engine, 273. 968). This is a known defect that causes the sprocket to wear out far too early due to poor material design. When it wears, it throws off the engine timing, leading to check engine lights, rough idling, reduced power, and even stalling. In some cases, the engine can shut down while driving, which is a major safety risk. Thousands of people have experienced this exact problem, and it’s all over mercedes forums, reddit, and technical bulletins. Mercedes quietly updated the part in later models, which shows they knew the early ones were defective. Some people got repairs under warranty or “goodwill,” but most of us are stuck with thousands in repair bills for something that clearly shouldn’t have failed. This isn’t just a mechanical issue—it’s a safety concern. Imagine merging onto a highway or turning through an intersection when the engine loses power. That’s a real risk with this defect. Mercedes should be held accountable, and NHTSA needs to investigate and push for a recall before someone gets hurt or worse.

Cylinder wall 2 and 3 scorn horribly. Coolant leaking into cylinder 2 & 3. Dealer recommendation of new motor due to bad block. German auto works and carstoreusa wichita KS both recommend new motor and have advised of many of same motors being recalled by Mercedes Benz. I also spoke with Mercedes Benz north America. The heads were replaced in 2022 already and have under 10k miles on motor since repair.

I drove my 2015 Mercedes Benz S550 4matic approximately 20 miles to work, parked in the parking lot and about 30 minutes later, I was alerted by pembroke pines police (case# pppd22off050792) that my car was burning when I got to the parking lot pembroke pines fire dept was in the process of extinguishing a catastrophic fire in the engine compartment. The car drove problem free to that point. No warning lights, no smoke, no smell, no leak. The car was in excellent condition prior to the fire with approx 93000 miles. I had the car serviced by mb fort lauderdale 1 month before the incident and no unresolved maintenance issues were found. After the fire geico insurance took possesion of the car and mercedes USA was granted access. After multiple attempts havent been able to make contact with mbusa since then, no callback.
I brought a car from a car dealer in tampa florida and when I got the car I noticed that the car would not pickup speed after pressing the gas pedal and it was asking me to turn off the engine or it will fail . Also when I tried to put in coolant. I seen a milky substance that was coming out of the hoses and in the overflow tank of the coolant reservoir which indicates issues with the heads or head gasket . Also the title I got says salvaged which I asked if there was anything wrong with the car and the car dealer told me no . Never disclosing that the car has been salvaged . There are other issues with the car that I forget because of so many issues with the car that I cant keep up with and I want to return the car to the car dealer and get my money back and have tried but they refuse to make good on the sale.

Balance shaft/idle gear material wore out causing timing chain to become loose and engine to jump timing while driving. Engine locked up and died while going down the highway! expensive repair that Mercedes Benz knows about!! they have an internal memo with a list of VIN numbers that have the faulty idler gear that wears out prematurely but won't recall the product because it usually wears out just after warrantee period! something must be done!.
I was driving my S550 and came to a red light. I stopped at the light and when it turned green, I took my foot off the brakes and pressed the accelerator, but there was to response to pressing the accelerator. The car rpms were increasing but the vehicle was crawling at less than 5mph. This led to me pulling over and parking the vehicle and turning it off. I waited 5 minutes and then restarted it and it began to work normally. The second time this happened was while making a left turn, I pressed the gas pedal and there was no response and the car was reving but traveling less than 5 mph with oncoming traffic having to stop short to prevent crashing into me while I was making the left turn. This was again resolved with me parking the vehicle, turning it off and then restarting it. After the second time this occurred out of no where I decided its a very dangerous safety issue.
