I purchased this vehicle in July 2020. I did a through check for recalls, warranty problems and could not identify any with this vehicle. From the get go the check engine light would come on. I checked the codes and they indicated an "electrical fault on bank 1, oxygen sensor 1. I replaced the wiring harness on that sensor as well as the sensor. From then until now the car would code weekly about the same issue. Eventually I started using a catalytic converter cleaner (it cleans off sulfur deposits) in an attempt to solve the issue. It would work for a couple of tanks of gas and then continuing coding. I asked mb on numerous occasions about what the issue was. They all said they had no idea. It looks to me like they knew what the issue was, but kept it to themselves. Several weeks ago I received a letter in the mail(not dated by postmark) but the letter was dated August, 2023. The letter outlined an issue with the catalytic converter system identifying my vehicle by VIN. The same problem I have had all along. The letter came at a time when the car codes almost daily with the same issue as always, only now the vehicle stalls occasionally while waiting at stop lights. I said great. I called to get an appointment to fix the issue only to be told that the fix window had passed. I told them that I just got the letter. They told me that the fix expired in December 2023. I called mb hotline at 1-800-367-6372 to see what was up. They said they would get back to me in 3 days. It's been a week so I called again and they advised me they can't help. It's an issue for the 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 mb S550 w221. Why is this not a recall and why won't they fix it. It's an expensive repair. They sent me the letter and said it was expired 6 months before I received the letter. Can you help?.

I was sold a vehicle by a dealership with a busted gas tank. It appears to have been an attempt to repair it with patching material. I am unsure if the defect was a result of manufacturing versus acquired damage. My safety is at risk because of leaking gas that could potentially ignite and inhaling strong gas fumes that could impact my lungs and health. The fuel tank damage has been confirmed by a mechanic and documented. It has not been inspected by any other entity while in my possession other than reported inspection by the dealership. I secured the vehicle on [xxx] from the dealership with these safety concerns. A mechanic stated the damage could have resulted either with the dealership or during on and off the trailer during transport of the vehicle from florida to indiana. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

I bought my s-class car at a manhattan dealership with 4900 miles on it, I treated it like my baby I’m the only driver and all services and maintenance had been done at the dealership, and I started getting bad readings on the fuel, check engine is on, fuel gauge reads full then goes down to empty the mechanics at the manhattan dealership said it was short on the fuel tank and I need to have the whole new tank replaced, my understanding is this model, the s class has been having this issue on many models and there was a soft recall on that matter and it can be fixed at the dealership, we do have a case number with the dealership. Case number 03656172.

Vehicle garaged in storage for summer. Upon returning strong odor of gasoline was detected. Reluctantly drove to dealership and prognoses was determined that (fuel pump strainer) had malfunction thus soaking the entire rear passenger compartment and seat cushion. Upon investigation mercedes has had a problem in other c -models and has extended warranties for 15 additional years for this same problem. This vehicle is a s- 550 model. Dealership has denied any responsibility. I think the vehicle is unsafe at any speed. Never should fuel enter the passenger compartment of any vehicle. Video on file at dealership.

I drove my 2015 Mercedes Benz S550 4matic approximately 20 miles to work, parked in the parking lot and about 30 minutes later, I was alerted by pembroke pines police (case# pppd22off050792) that my car was burning when I got to the parking lot pembroke pines fire dept was in the process of extinguishing a catastrophic fire in the engine compartment. The car drove problem free to that point. No warning lights, no smoke, no smell, no leak. The car was in excellent condition prior to the fire with approx 93000 miles. I had the car serviced by mb fort lauderdale 1 month before the incident and no unresolved maintenance issues were found. After the fire geico insurance took possesion of the car and mercedes USA was granted access. After multiple attempts havent been able to make contact with mbusa since then, no callback.
There is a strong smell of fuel in the cabin. When I lifted up the rear seats, where the odor is coming from, I see a film of fuel around the fuel sending unit on the driver's side. I lift up the sound insulation and I see fuel that has leaked on total the top of the sending unit.
I am filing a complaint with your agency regarding a fuel pump malfunction with my 2011 mercedes S550 (VIN# [xxx]), because I feel that the incident below is a major safety concern and is similarly situated to the following NHTSA campaign #12v557000. On March 15, 2022, I was pumping gas into my vehicle at costco in brookhaven, georgia. The gas attendant and I were chatting about gas prices and so forth. In 10-to-15 minutes costco's members that were getting gas, were attempting to alert us that an ocean ($88. 00) of fuel was rapidly spewing out the opposite side (driver side) of the vehicle's fuel tank. On March 16, 2022, I had the vehicle towed to rbm of atlanta in sandy springs, georgia. Later that afternoon, [xxx], the service advisor advised me that the vehicle's fuel tank will need to be replace. I agreed to the repair. However, I asked the advisor to send me photos of the malfunctioned part, as well as, an itemized repair invoice. I have yet to receive either. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Upon refuling my automobile full I could smell a strong odor of gas fumes. Earlier that day I had an impact of my tire over a curb. Gas fumes could be smelled not so much on the outside of the auto but inside without abatement. Upon inspection by Mercedes Benz of stockton CA it was determined a fuel leak was present with the cushion that sits on top of the fuel system was soiled/sturated under the rear passenger seat of the car. Pictures taken suggest it had been was ongoing possiblely for years. They suggested heat contributed to the unit-seal corrosion and its surroundings. It is not clear why my right rear impact with a curb brought this all to my attention. Highly combustible situation that was clearly not detected witch is not completely understood the same day I have an impact to the right rear tire jumping a curb then going back over it to unlodge the tire & rocker molding from the curb & refuel I smell gas fumes. Highly dangerous using plastic secure gas exchanges on something people sit on? has simularities in other drivers. Not sure why that day the seal (plastic) ruptured (at plastic lid).

On 8/29/17 around 11:20 - 11:30am, I was driving on n270 just off from hov lane from s495 near montrose exit(little bit before), some metallic round wheel type with sharp edges around flew over from s270. I tried to avoid it by swerve my car but it must have landed below my car and scratched underneath which caused my car making weird sound plus burning gasoline smell. I didn't see my tire pressure gaze change so I went into local lane from falls road to get to my home. My car was not steering properly and I can smell gasoline even from closed windows. After parking my car, I saw gasoline leakage from underneath my car. It was such scary incident and I was so lucky to be alive and not hurt with gasoline leaking from my car.
