Had my S550 into this dealership two (2) consecutive years for a power steering rack issue that ended up being related to rodent damage. The first time it happened the dealership replaced the wiring free of charge after discovering it, after initially telling me that the rack itself would have to be replaced. This year both the wiring and the rack itself needed to be replaced, and I was made to go through my auto insurance to have it fixed. My sons Cadillac, and my girlfriends range rover sport share the same driveways with me, and have had no rodent damage. I did a bit of research and found that mercedes now designs their cables with soy based materials, which attract rats, so the fact that my car has been eaten twice is more or less by mb design, as they apparently care more about the environment than they do about my ability to steer my car continuously for 1 year straight. My service manager and his manager acknowledged that they see this a lot, and were laughing when I asked for an inedible cable. I submitted a complaint to mbusa, one which I had to continuously follow up on, as they weren’t proactive at all, and after contacting me this am, they informed me that they don’t see a problem, and are not considering reimbursing me for my $750 deductible, or the 3 + weeks that I was without my car between both incidents. My issue isn’t necessarily with the dealership, although if they are quick to acknowledge that their cables are attractive to animals, they should have in my estimation been my advocate in the complaint. Mercedes can make their decisions, and for me it wasn’t really about the money anyway, rather the inherent safety issue that their design decisions have caused for me and for my family.
Vehicle's body movement or damping motion while traveling on highway responds awkwardly. The vehicle has a waddle or a side to side motion instead of an up/down motion while traveling over the highway at 60 mph. My initial thoughts were to replace the vehicle's (air ride) struts. I chose to have mercedes-benz of tyler analyze the vehicle ride problems which at that time involved the self -leveling adjustment (up/down) of the vehicle. Mercedes-benz of tyler determined and replaced the air compressor and valve block at 61,000 miles on March 16, 2023 to resolve the problem. Although no recalls were found for this vehicle, I've spoken with other owners who own s-class vehicles and discovered NHTSA campaign I. D. 08v405000 with a report date August 01, 2008 was issued. I believe this vehicle should have been included in that campaign. This vehicle has not been in an accident nor do I want to be. I'm seeking resolution to this problem prior to an accident or injury occurs.

According to the recall NHTSA campaign id number: 16v899000 and the vehicle inspection report from the local mercedes dealership show as an identical issue. However, my vehicle is not identified as apart of the recall. The recall states the issue is due to the steering control unit not being soldered properly. Difficult to think this falls under normal wear and tear. I will get the repair done begrudgingly, though it would be nice if mercedes would have stood behind its recall.
Vehicle fails to go in park after driving on the street and arriving at the grocery store.

When making turns both left and right, there is a moaning noise heard. Cause: lower engine compartment center and rear, steeering coupling, rubber bellows on steering.
While making right-hand turn the steering wheel locked in a turned position and would not return to straight - locked episode lasted for 2-4 seconds. This happened 2x and I have left the car with a dealer and will not drive it again until all components in the steering are replaced. The dealer has been unable to reproduce the problem and has not made all necessary repairs.

The contact was only able to steer the vehicle after the brake pedal was depressed. There were no warning indicators illuminated at the time of the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but diagnostic testing was not performed. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.

When steering wheel is released even for a few seconds, vehicle pulls hard to the right and will put you in the ditch if you are not paying attention. The vehicle should track straight when the steering wheel is released.
The vehicle shuts off for a second the esp and abs lights would come on, the steering wheel of the vehicle would get stiff, the brakes get stiff the headlights and interior lights would go off, and the command center would reboot. It seems like the vehicle is experiencing a brief electrical failure. I have been complaining of this problem since I purchased the vehicle as a certified preowned vehicle. The first time I took the vehicle to the dealership the replaced the steering control module and the problem persisted. I notified them of the reoccurring problem again and the claimed the where not able to find any faults. I set up a camera in the vehicle and videotaped the problem occurring and the finally took the vehicle for an extended test drive and replaced the central gateway which did not solve the problem. I contacted mbusa customer service to notify them of the safety concerns regarding the vehicle and that I was still experiencing the same problem and I was brushed off saying the were sorry and there is nothing they can do about the problem. This is a problem that could potentially lead to a fatal incident because it involves the vehicle cutting of for a brief second and causing many component not to function during that second and the vehicle is not intended to function in this manner. Mercedes is not doing their due diligence to investigate and correct the problem besides the basic diagnostics that do not yield an error code. I will gladly furnish the video tape which is evidence the issue occurs.
