Wheel Problems of Mercedes Benz S550

Brought my vehicle to my mechanic because of noise that recently appeared in my car. To my surprise the mechanic stated that my engine is completely failing and would require an entire new engine. I purchased this car less than two years ago with an estimated 79,000 miles. Vehicle currently has an estimated 112,000 miles. Never missed a service interval for the vehicle. Now several components of the engine are completely failing.

The rims on the car cracking. I replaced the rims in the two front wheels and now the right rear rim is cracked, I have reported this previously to your commission including sending pictures. The dealer does not want to accept responsibility. In the future probably the 4th wheel rim will have the same fate.

On 10,2018 I noticed loss of air pressure on the left front tire. After inflating the tire twice, I brought the car to an authorized dealer who told me that there is a crack on the rim. After 5 day's the rim was replaced with a new one. The explanation given to me was that I hit a pot hole. This past week the same happened on the right front wheel, giving me the same explanation. This time I took picture of the rim and noticed that there 3 cracks in the inner aspect of the rim in a radial fashion. Personally I don't recall biting a pothole or anything else. The outside aspect of the rim is in excellent condition. I believe this is a manufacturing problem that has the potential to cause a major accident when you drive on a highway. The photos I took was with my cell phone but unfortunately I am not savvy enough to transfer. However, I find an expert to download and make hard copies.

This past Thursday evening (December 13, 2018) around 10:00 pm, I was driving (with my wife in the passenger seat) down a curvy stretch of road on sunset boulevard in beverly hills, when I suddenly heard a loud thumping sound and immediately felt violent vibrations through the steering wheel. Since we were traveling at a relatively low speed of 30 mph, I was immediately able to re-gain the control of my vehicle and was able to pull over safely. Once I got out of my vehicle, I immediately noticed that the front right wheel rim had completely broken into two halves. I was shocked and very surprised because nothing could have possibly explained why this wheel completely broke in the manner that it did. We were extremely fortunate that there were no other vehicles around us at the time the wheel broke, or that we were not on the highway traveling at much higher speeds, otherwise the results would have been fatal with even a possibility of significant injury or even loss of life. A complete report with pictures and cause of rapid fracture of the rim as a complaint was provided to mercedes dealership and corporate, they are refusing to admit to any material defect and liability.

Even change to new tires, the air pressure up to 37 and always after 1 week or so, down to 33, complain and change tire and still have the same result. You could only check the tire pressure after you run for a while. Massage chair, after operation and all the sudden it stop. Clock in the cabin doesn't change even you set it up and the internal said the right time and the front doesn't change.

After the car had been operated for ~20k miles, it was time to take it in for tire replacement. This was expected seeing as the stock tires are a soft compound tire. While at the tire shop, it was determined the front passenger rim, and rear driver side rim, we both cracked. The front had four cracks on the inside edge of the rim, and two cracks on the rear rim. After discussing this issue with my local dealer, he informed me that many customers have complained about soft aluminum rims installed on the mercedes s class. Apparently these rims are easily dented, cracked, or punctured, even during normal operation on roads without potholes. I believe these rims are a safety hazard to not only the occupants of my car, but also to other drivers on the road. Apparently this issue has come to light in years past; just google luppino et al v. Mercedes-benz USA. Mercedes needs to place a recall on these rims to ensure the property safety of their vehicles on our roadways.

Problem 1: car sold to me without full disclosure. Silverstar motors in l. I city, NY sold me the car & withheld material information. The car had 4 damaged & defective wheels. This was disclosed to me by another dealer helms brothers. Tires were constantly losing air; front end would vibrate at highway speeds & was constantly in the shop. Silverstar gave me 4 new tires to compensate me for my troubles & I have already lost 2 of them in a few months. One was damaged last Friday doing 10 miles an hour on archer avenue in queens NY hitting a pot hole. I was forced to purchase tire insurance knowing the problems I had with a previous 2006 mercedes cls 500 & this one. Manufactures should be held to higher standards for tires,& wheels strength & resilience. They should disclose to all buyers that low profile tires & large rims can be a major problem on city streets. Several months ago I was leaving an atm drive-in at chase bank; going 5 mph I side swiped the curb, lost air in both right tires & had to call for road service. Such little force to the tires caused a major problem & could at high speeds be deadly. I was fortunate that I was only going yes 5mph. The wheel & tire issues had car out of service at silver star for of 3-4 weeks. Problem # 2: engine light on. Helms brothers had car 3 x for 27 days. They pulled out engine & transmission to replace engine harness wiring. I picked up the car & the engine light went on again. They said there was an oil leak at one of the engine sensors & they cleaned it up & secured it. Again the 3rd time I returned because the engine light was on. Helms brothers said they missed one of the engine sensors, & cleaned it or replaced it and secured it. They also removed all the gas from the tank (5 gallons +/-) the third trip & put in a few gallons of new gas. The car was road tested one week more. The engine light stayed off.

I leased this car new in 2013, since 06/06/2013 this car has been back in shop for same problem 8 times, bubbles on the tires which cuts open the tire at the edge of the wheel. Last month the tire was changed again and while the car was in the shop it developed another bubble on another tire. Now mbusa is saying there is no defect on the car, I am saying wheels and tires come with the car and they are part of the car and that that this car is lemon or defective, I do not feel safe to travel in it. Mbusa dont want to admit it but all the service records are available at koons dealership in catonsville MD. In my opinion a fatal accident can happen any time if this car is driven on the road.
