To who may this concerned, I have a 2003 mercedes Sl500 and recently found my battery control module caught on fire and burnt a section of my car. I have tried reaching out to mercedes directly first and they said the car is 20 years ago and it could have not be a manufactured defect. Please I need help this problem could’ve burn down my house or while I was driving. Mercedes requested I send them a letter in writing if I have to get the car inspected. Please setup and date so I can write them this is 100% liability on their brand as there is no schedule maintenance for a battery control module.
The 2003-2006 r230 series seem to have a problem with the bcm (battery control module) as start an electrical fire in the trunk. Very common issue and a safety hazard - this is what happened with my car. Vehicle has dual battery, starter in front, convenience battery in trunk and fuses that operate at 130 amps - the bcm capacitors and circuit board age and at some point can no longer handle the high current and catch fire.

I submitted via fax earlier this week a formal letter to mr. Exler the president & ceo of mbusa and, cc'd mr. King of the NHTSA that included information about known critical safety issued these vehicles had prior to mbusa importing them to the united states. Mbusa failed to disclose these known issues and, chose to importation these vehicles violating vehicle importation rules. Yesterday-January 31, 2019 I received a call from a representative of mbusa stating he was calling on behalf of mr. Exlers office concerning my letter. I will not be intimidated by mbusa while seeking the truth on why mbusa allowed these vehicles to enter the USA knowing these critical safety issues existed while misleading consumers and, the NHTSA. On January 21, 2019 my vehicle had what is described by mbusa as a catastrophic failure when the entire brake system failed. This failure could have killed me - and, other motorist. Mbusa has replaced the sbc unit at least 6 times and, still the issue and, other persist. The vehicle has been driven on average 4,000 miles annually. How many failures must happen before mbusa is fully investigated? they refused to provide me any information on the vehicles except the 4 year warranty period. Once I complete my research on these vehicles I will submit my findings to the NHTSA & ms. King.

Sometimes when I start the car the lights on the dash will not come on and none of the gauges work ! then I turn it off and back on again and it works! also when I'm driving and hit a little bump on the freeway and road the dash lights turn red and says drive carefully then 2 seconds later goes back to normal!.

Started car and got message: "abc malfunction, car too low". In actuality, car elevated. The ride of the car has changed. It has a soft and floaty feeling compared to its normal stiffer ride. I have seen the above complaint on the internet multiple times. It seems this is a wide problem. I haven't heard any recalls from mercedes.
While driving to work, I was going about 35 mph when the dash lights up red saying "service brakes, stop vehicle, etc". My mechanic looked over everything to do with brakes and could not fix it. He called mercedes of tallahassee and was told it was an electrical issue that was a common problem with this vehicle. It did have a recall on it, but it expired in July last year, just my luck. So I googled it and have now found tons of people with the same experience! how can the vehicle safety administration legally allow Mercedes Benz to continue letting this happen to people? how many accidents must take place, or god forbid deaths before something is done? I have no option but to pay out of pocket to have this piece of $100k junk fixed and pray it never happens again! Mercedes Benz and the vehicle safety administration better pray this doesn't cause an accident or I will sue the [xxx] out of both! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
While driving, the consumer smelled a burning odor, then smoke started coming from the interior rearview mirror. The faulty device was due to a transistor that had gone bad on the electric board on the inside of the reaview mirror.
91-96 mercedes engine wire harness disintegrates completely to shorting out all gauges and engine operations. This is very dangerous. . . Deadly dangerous . This needs to be addressed and recalled immediately. We are putting together a mass group to file a class action lawsuit against the NHTSA for not demanding mercedes to implement a recall on its deadly mistake. ( we have not lost a class action lawsuit today from 1989. . . Thank you in advance.
