Body Problems of Mercedes Benz SL550

The whole dashboard leather has come apart. The seam around the vent is peeling up, the top part is looking really bad. The top part of the instrumental console, the leather cloth has fell and you cannot see the face of the panel. This car should not be falling apart like that. The color is great, just coming aprt from the seams.

This vehicle caught fire on its own while parked in a locked garage. The fire was in the trunk and involved various electrical and mechanical components and wiring harnesses. The car filled with dense smoke which coated everything with thick soot. The smoked seeped into everything including the closed console compartment and glove compartment. I believe the fire itself did not spread because of a lack of oxygen as the car was parked with top folding metal top up and the windows closed. The fire occurred on Feb. 16, 2018, and was not discovered until the following day. The car was not economically repairable, and the insurance company provided a settlement in exchange for the car, which, I presume, was sold at a salvage auction. This has occurred before. My car was parked and I attempted to open the driver's door as I was seated in driver's seat and I heard a loud popping noise. The door lock mechanism has failed such that the driver's door can not be opened from the interior which presents a serious safety issue. Despite being covered by an extended a mercedes cpo warranty mercedes refuses to cover the cost of the repair. This is a well known issue across many mercedes models including the r230 Sl550. Part of the door handle actuation mechanism is made of fragile plastic and, or nylon that wears prematurely.

On July 10, 2015 during 5 pm traffic my wife was making a left turn from the turning lane into our complex where we live, upon making her left turn, she had to cross two lanes of traffic, both lanes had stopped to allow her through safely, as she was clearing the second lane looking as she progressed, no one was in the outer lane turning into our complex, a man pulled out of line and attempted to allude traffic by going around it and struck her car in the passenger door, he never hit his brakes to stop and was attempting to drive through a turning lane which enters our complex only, there is a sign stating that this lane is for entering the complex and has markings on the road that shows where the lane begins further past our turn in entrance, instead he was going to drive over the markings to avoid waiting in traffic. My wife's car was hit hard enough to break both motor mounts and cause the roll bars to pop up, but the airbag never deployed, the other driver's bags all deployed up front in his vehicle.
