1 Power Train problem of the 2017 Mercedes Benz SL550

Failure Date: 05/27/2025

When pulling into an intersection after stopping at a 3-way stop the car unexpectedly went into neutral gear. An oncoming car had to stop suddenly to avoid a collision. I was able to shift the car back to drive and got it home. Now the car will not start and there's a warning message on the dash saying to get the car to a dealer. The car is now at the mercedes dealer. Apparently the problem exists on other mercedes models.

2 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz SL550

Failure Date: 04/02/2024

Started the vehicle and used the gear selector to shift to drive. Car did not go into gear. Towed to dealer. Dealer found faulty “ism module. ” apparently a very common issue with these cars. So common that the part is in an “indefinite back order. ” the replacement part is also revised because mercedes knows there was a manufacturer defect with the existing part. I am being charged more than $1600 on a part that the manufacturer has already acknowledged was faulty and created a replacement for it.

3 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz SL550

4 Power Train problem of the 2013 Mercedes Benz SL550

Failure Date: 08/26/2017

Traveling on I-5 in stop and go traffic 0- 60 mph when transmission started shifting roughly. It then shifted to neutral and would not respond to shifter inputs. I was in the second lane from the right doing 10 or 15 mph. I was able to force my way into the right lane and off to the shoulder. I put the transmission in sport and paddle shifter mode with no response from the shift selector. Thinking this is a computer problem I rebooted by shutting car off and restarting. All functions returned to normal. Took to dealer where I got very good service but it turns out there was a mercedes bulletin regarding this problem. It required a software update that has appearently fixed the problem. What happened to me was very minor when compared to what could have happened losing power on the freeway and I believe there should have been a recall on such a serious safety problem. Computer faults that were found were p060600,p073000, p073200, p07300, p073400, p07350008.

6 Power Train problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz SL550

Failure Date: 09/20/2011

The incident I am reporting is almost identical to the complaint I read on your web page. I was enroute to the mercedes dealer ship to purchase a switch for my electric windows. I had noticed enroute that the vehicle seemed to not be shifting. I looked down to see if I had someway manualy shifted down. I had not and when I attempted to accelerate it seemed I was in second gear. I was approx three blocks from the dealer ship so I slowed to about 20 mph. I stopped at the traffic light in front of the dealership and when the light changed--the veh would not move. Somewhat panicked I tried to shift into gear but was unable to. The veh stalled and each time I restarted and attempted to shift into gear the vehicle transmission would "jerk" but not move. Finally after much of doing I don't know what, I was able to limp into the dealership. The youngman who checked me in said it was probably the transmission. They kept my car and several hours later told me something in the transmission went haywire and it would be approx $1700. 00 to fix. They assured me that it was not a defect. I don't mistreat my vehicle, race it or do quick take offs so I couldn't understand how this could happen. I am even more convinced after reading almost an identical complaint that Mercedes Benz speaks with forked tounge. I hope my complaint will lead to a recall before some other sap gets burnt for something not their fault.
