1 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz SLK

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

The car went into "limp home mode" twice while I was driving during the past few months. The second time it happened on the high way: gearshifts no longer possible and the car was going about 20 miles per hour. It was producing very loud noise and scary. A collision could have happened. After some research online and talking to my mechanic, mercedes-benz's 722. 9 transmission is a known and widespread problem. My mechanic had to replace the transmission valve body. According to my research online and what my mechanic told me, most mercedes between 2006 and 2010 had this problem. There should have been a recall for this.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2000 Mercedes Benz SLK

Failure Date: 09/08/2008

For investigation on the Mercedes Benz 2000 Slk. Vehicle to mb dealership repeatedly since purchased new, for a problem with hard/full throttle acceleration. When fully depressing the accelerator, on occasion the car will backfire or hesitate, or almost stall until the accelerator is released. The problem appears to be directly related to the activation of the turbo-charger (kompressor). A check of the service records for the VIN number reveals that the problem goes back to 10/25/04 when the O2 sensor was replaced. That same senor was replaced on 05/24/07. The problem was again reported to and diagnosed by a dealer hyannis MA on 06/21/07 during a trip to cape cod after it occurred on the interstate driving from va to cape cod. Upon return to va, the mass air flow sensor was replaced to correct the problem on 07/03/07. The same problem was again reported on 01/30/07 where it was corrected as an air intake hose problem. The problem was again reported and "corrected" on 11/09/07 . The problem was again reported and corrected by replacing the air mass sensor yet again! on 07/30/08. This time it had occurred in the interstate on ramp acceleration lane almost causing an accident due to unexpected lack of acceleration performance. The problem again occurred on 09/08/08 during full acceleration again. It should be noted here that I hold a master of science degree in safety, from the university of southern California. I am also very familiar with the nhsta safety defect reporting/investigation system and the data base related to safety recalls and tsbs. John b. Pratt maj (USA ret).

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2001 Mercedes Benz SLK

Failure Date: 06/20/2008

Car hesitates sometimes when taking off and accelerating if I don't release clutch properly. It's as if the computer takes over and prevents car from accelerating. I've stalled cars; this is different. The stall is not related to the shifting but to the acceleration. It's like the computer software takes over and stops the acceleration. Such is not need and actually makes less safe the condition. If I release the clutch a bit out-of-time I don't want my acceleration being changed. This has happened nine or more times. I am indicating a date below because it is required. It has not happened taking off onto a highway, but such is a concern. I don't like my control over the accelerator being manipulated by software or some computer program. I'm 54 years old and have driven automatics and manual transmissions for hundreds of thousands and maybe a million or more miles. Until this car, if I slipped a bit on the clutch my acceleration had never before in other cars been affected other than by my own foot to accelerator pedal. With this 2001 Slk 320, I can depress the pedal and it doesn't speed up, but bogs down. A mechanic told me it's the mercedes safety feature in the computer software. I find it a safety hazard, as it prevents my control of the car's acceleration and cause me concern as I am driving. I just wanted to report this, as the new stories blast Toyota I realized I'd check on recalls on the 2001 Slk 320 mb, but I found none related to this issue. Thank you.
