Accelerator Pedal problems of the 1999 Mercury Cougar

Six problems related to accelerator pedal have been reported for the 1999 Mercury Cougar. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2004

While driving throttle stuck, and vehicle accelerated to a high rate. Consumer able to decelerate vehicle.

2 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2003

Consumer states that while driving at any speed and with no warning throttle pedal would stick. Dealer notified.

3 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2000

While driving the throttle will stick causing the engine to rev up when I push in the clutch, it lasts anywhere from 5 to 10 seconds at a time. It is off and on, somedays it does it, then other days it's fine. I have takin it to the dealer twice before now, the first time they replaced the idle air control valve which seemed to fix the problem, then approx. 3 months later began to do it again, so they put a new throttle body in it, that lasted about 3 weeks and now im taking it back again.

4 Accelerator Pedal problem

Failure Date: 08/01/1999

While traveling on highway throttle will stick. When taking foot off of pedal, engine doesn't slow down. Dealershipwas aware of problem.

5 Accelerator Pedal problem

Passenger's seat will not lock in place unless seat is positioned all way to the back closely to rear seat . Consumer states the seat if unlocked and moved foward will only relock when pushed all the way to the rear, then seat can be adjusted and locked from any position, the problem is that you can not lock the seat if anything is placed behind the seat, in trying to lock the seat consumer states she has the crush her grandchild's feet in the car seat, consumer states there is a strong to light gasoline odor, also gas pedal will stick in up position and need strong push to release, door locks automaticcalylock and unlock at any time, the locks were finally replaced and consumer was given an extended warranty, consumer states radio goes out and the display disappears when it is hot.

6 Accelerator Pedal problem

Consumer states that throttle sticks intermittently when driving, causing unintended acceleration. Problem has been occurring for 2 years.
