Letter from congressman griffith on behalf of constituent re electrical safety issues with 2000 Mercury Cougar. The consumer stated he constantly experienced wiring/electrical problems.
The contact owns a 2000 Mercury Cougar. The contact stated that the interior lights and headlights flickered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated that the wiring harness had failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number 01v031000 (electrical system). The failure mileage was 63,127 and current mileage was 67,000.
Consumer stated that while driving down a hill vehicle died, and could not get it restarted. Consumer had to coast down a hill into a gasoline station in order to stop and hit a pillar. Vehicle was towed to a Lincoln-Mercury dealer, who told consumer that the problem was the fuel pump. Also, after contacting the manufacturer they told the mechanic that there was a recall on consumer's vehicle concerning an electrical cable which caused the power to fail.
While driving at 30 mph the vehicle shut down and the consumer hit the curb. Dealer contacted. Please provide additional information.
