Body Problems of Mercury Cougar

The sunroof just released from the car in the middle of i71 doing 65mph and I am not the only person who has had this problem with this model of Cougar.

Driving on freeway, car next to me came into my lane towards my car, I hit my brakes resulting in my vehicle swerving and hitting the median head on at high speed, air bags did not deploy upon impact.

There is a health issue associated with my 2000 Mercury Cougar. I recently noticed that there were particles coming from the front and windshield vents. Some were very small, some probably too small to see, while other were large, 1/2 x 1/4 . The particles consisted of black, rough surface, sharp material, probably coming from the air mixing box. Also coming out were pieces of foam rubber. When I went to the dealer for warranty service I was told that this issue is a problem with many of the Ford cars, and has been for many years. Further, Ford has decided not to honor a warranty to fix the problem, not to notify the public that they do not consider pieces of the air-conditioner falling apart important, and not to consider it a health issue. They said that the material is not toxic. While that may be true, what I do know is that sharp particles entering a persons lungs is definitely not good for a ones health! I have tried to contact someone at Ford, including the board of directors, to address the warranty and health issue, but it was a waste of time! in my letter to the company, I sent both pictures and samples which they did not even look at it. I have some definitive pictures that I dont think your format will accept. If you contact me with a direct email, I will send you the pictures. You asked how many incidents, deaths, injuries, etc. I dont know. What I do know is that Ford has said this is a frequent occurrence with many of their cars. While traveling on highway cup holder had a drink inside. Cup holder will dump the drink in driver's lap. Dealership is aware of problem.

The consumer wishes to report difficulty with blind spots which affects her view of the entire vehicle. The consumer was told "that the vehicles are being pulled due to these blind spots". She has had several close encounters with either hitting another vehicle or being struck by one. Please describe details ts.

When making a right hand turn, the contents my cup in the cup holder (usually hot tea) spills into my driver's seat when making a right hand turn. 30-35 mi p/hr is the minimum speed that I've noticed. This distraction causes me to take my eyes off the road to straighten the cup to stop the spillage. At times I've found myself swerving a bit in the turn because of the "initial shock" of feeling my hot beverage on my thigh.

Rear driver's side weather strip ripped, and consumer was not able to open door. Has had weather strip replaced 5 times, original strip was okay. It was just leaking, but the replacement ones are the ones that keep ripping.

Design of sun visor support rod causing the consumer to hit his head on the rod during rear end collision. Nlm.

Sunvisor keeps falling down due to a defective clip which does not hold the sunvisor up, causing poor visibility, and may result in a crash. Went to 2 dealers, 2nd dealer was able to fix the problem.

Windshield wipers do not not clear the entire window. They do not go all the way to the left, causing poor visibility. Consumer also obtained six stitches to the head from the design of the sunvisor being supported by a vertical rod instead of a horizontal one.

The center console is designed poorly. It flops around while in motion.

When car was purchased was not told that the uinbody rail was cut away over suspension/mtr. Crossmember mount. Found this info out when we had a minor accident with damange to the right front . Have been trying to get this resolved sence 1/02 and jack garrett refuses to do anything just kept giving me a run around. This car should of never been sold it is unsafe and illiegal to sell with the frame being cut and a piece welded to make it fit,the rail is rusting. We have had several problems with this car it has been a lie from date of purchase ex. Was told had great breaks got it to FL. Had no brakes 343. 00 I have several receipts for one repair after another. Have pictures of the unibody,certfied letter to jack garrett,phone bills where I have called him letting him know of all the problems and lies he told us.

Molding around doors and windows was gapping, strap in the hatch back needed repair, and Cougar emblems have been replaced.
