1 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1997 Mercury Cougar

Failure Date: 12/15/2009

I understand there was a class action suit due to a faulty intake manifold on many Ford cars with a 4. 6 liter engine. I or my kids have owned a 1997 Mercury Cougar since new. Recently this car which had been in storage for several years was given to my son who is laid off and attempting to complete his bachelors degree. I spent money to repair sensor, freezeplug and he put new tires on this car. I am writing because I contacted Ford about this defective intake manifold problem and was told I was too late because the class action involving the faulty plastic intake manifold had expired in 2007 or at 75,000 miles. The car in question has slightly more than 75,000 miles. How could I have taken part in repairing or reimbursement of over $800 I had to pay to get the plastic intake manifold replaced. I then found on the internet that many individuals are in the same position I am in. I found the following link on the internet very informative and gives several examples of people with this problem and explains some safety issues concerning this problem because people are still driving these cars possibly not knowing the engine could blow up at any time in any place including traffic. . 5 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1996 Mercury Cougar

Failure Date: 02/15/2003

I bought a mecury Cougar xr7 feburary 1st, 2003 at carmax in dulles, va. I have had the car approximately 3 weeks. Last Monday February 10, 2003 I took my car to inspected by the state of maryland. I was assured this car would pass inspection. My car failed inspection. I am now having engine problems with my car where it jumps and knocks. The engine light goes on and off. I have tried calling carmax several times this week to get my car repaired at their laurel dealership and where I bought my car at carmax in sterling/dulles, va. No one could help me to bring my car in or set up an earlier appointment. My car sounds like it is going to fall apart. My girlfriend called the salesperson Saturday February 15, 2003. The salesperson called the operations manager and he called my girlfriend. They are trying to set up a time for me to bring my car in on Monday. I have called all week and no one would forward my call to the operations manager at carmax. My appointment was set up to bring my car in on February 24th. I am worried that I bought lemon. I only had the car approximatley 3 weeks. There is a certificate in my car from virginia state claiming that this car passed inspection back in December of 2002.

7 Engine Exhaust System problem of the 1999 Mercury Cougar

Tire has continuously lost air since day one. It has been back to the dealer at least three times for this problem, each time they find no constant problem. Once they stated that a patch was leaking. The tire is so thin in spots that a 1/4" screw punctured it, thus the patch. That was not the problem. The vehicle spends more time at air pumps that gas. Now I had it aligned and balanced, where I was informed that both front tires are separating. I have long contended there is a problem. I have complained to Ford and never received a reply. The tires are now on the rear, and I will take it back to the dealer, I also expect to get a major run around. The dealership I take it to is not where I purchased it. I am taking it to holman Lincoln Mercury in hollywood, FL. I have not taken it to the selling dealership due to distance. Any advise? (tiresize: p215/50r16).
