Two problems related to steering rack and pinion have been reported for the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Consumer states steering gear was excessively worn, when driving and steering wheel is being turned in either direction, there is a grinding noise.
Excessive road shock felt in steering since car was new. 2 dealers said not a problem but seems to be getting worse with age of car. Also wheel skip on moderately bumpy roads ie asphalt strips in pavement.
