Five problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1998 Mercury Grand Marquis. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
: the contact stated that the vehicle shifted into reverse after it was put in to park. There was no accident involved. Dealer replaced automatic transmission at 49000 miles at cost $1,800 to the consumer.
While driving up a hill shifting into second gear, and when moving pawl back to drive, it won't be able to do so. Also, engine will stall, and there will be no power steering or brakes. Then, shifting to neutral and moving vehicle so that it could start working again.
The od light on the dashboard is illuminated and it won't go out unless the vehicle is stopped and restarted, the dealer has stated that no harm could be done with this light being on.
Transmission surges severel times when going into overdrive.
