The contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving between 45-50 mph, the contact noticed a low pitch humming noise coming from the rear wheel. She took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the cause of the failure was premature axle wear. They also stated that they would repair all rear axles and bearings at the cost of $1,350. The manufacturer has not been notified. The current and failure mileages were approximately 44,000.
While driving any speed or when making a turn, consumer could feel tires not attaching to road and making vehicle slip, consumer lost control of vehicle, consumer had contacted dealer for tire situation, but they could not fix problem. Discovered problem when car was on a lift, for cosmetic work. We don't know when bolt fell out. The rear end was jumping sideways around turns since we owned the car, we didn't know it wasn't normal. . We put 1000 miles on the car in the past week that we owned the car.
