1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 03/05/2015

I started my vehicle, the air bag light on the dash flashes three times, then another three times, than stays on solid. I took my car to the local Ford dealership and they diagnosed that both driver and passenger seat belt pre-tensioners are shorted out and need to be replaced at a cost of $1608. They told me my air bags will not deploy due to this malfunction. I called Ford motor CO and they said there are no plans to issue a recall over this problem. They did give me a claim number and told me that if I get it repaired at a Ford dealership, and there ever is a recall, they will consider reimbursement. A quick search on the internet indicates that this is a fairly common problem with the 2005 Grand Marquis. Given that the air bags will not deploy in an accident, how is this not subject to a safety recall?.

2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2014

My 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis airbag light is on. Dealership claims the airbags will not deploy due to a malfunctioning seatbelt pretensioner. Repair/replacement will cost $1800 to do both passenger and driver. Car only has 29,250 miles on it. I have found where this seems to be an ongoing problem with this model. Also, saw where this issue has caused airbags not to deploy in a collision. Some have reported the problem reoccurring after repair. This is a bad design by Mercury and a huge safety concern that should have been issued a recall!.

3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I own a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis GS original owner with 37,700 miles on the odometer. A week ago my drivers side air bag warning light came on when I started the car and it remains on while driving. After checking with one of my mechanics, I was told the air bag will not deploy if I am in a front end collision. I think this is the same problem others 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis' have had with the drivers side seat belt pre-tensioner, and think it will needs to be replaced. I will be contacting my Lincoln(formerly Mercury) dealership on bell road in phoenix, az, to take it in for repairs. While I have never had a accident with the car, I can't take the chance that me or my wife will not have the air bag deploy in the case of a front end collision. I purchased the auto in December, 2004, and am the original owner with only 37,700 miles on the car. Ljh.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated upon starting the ignition, the air bag warning indicator illuminated continuously. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the front passenger's side seat belt pre-tensioner was replaced. The failure recurred one year later, which would require the front driver's side seat pre-tensioner to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the defect and they informed the contact that the steering wheel air bag may not deploy sufficiently in the event of a crash unless the repair was performed. The approximate failure mileage was 94,300. . . . Updated 11-12-13 the consumer stated the function of the seat belt was not impaired by the failure of the pre-tensioner. Only the function of the air bag was impaired. However, to replace the pre-tensioner , the entire seat belt needed to be replaced, which was functioning.

5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

My daughter and I were rear ended and our 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis GS airbags never deployed in spite of being hit three times by a delivery driver with a box truck at the intersection of pembroke and dixie highway in hollywood. I just learned on national tv that Ford obtained fake airbags from suppliers in china. If this is or isn't true, should Ford compensate us in some way?.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2008

Car was slowing for red light, stepped on brake, engine oversped, vehicle was uncontrollable, collided with pick up truck ahead, pick up was pushed into a compact car ahead. Air bags did not deploy. Clouds of smoke behind my car and tire marks on roadway confirmed brake pedal, not accelerator, was depressed. Car experienced a slight overspeed on a previous occasion.
