This is a serious safety hazard that could result in death or injury. If I hadn’t escaped in time, I would have been killed. I am urging the NHTSA to investigate this defect and take immediate action to remove these vehicles from the road. Others may not be as lucky. This issue is life-threatening, especially because the fire started while the vehicle was in motion. These vehicles must be recalled and removed from use before more people are injured or killed.
The lcm light control module is malfunctioning and Ford/Mercury say that this vehicle is not part of the recall.
I purchased a 05 Mercury Grand Marquis and had issues with the headlights going out while driving at night. I seen that there was a recall on this issue for my vehicle but when I called the Ford dealer they said my car wasn't registered for a recall. They said I would have to pay $135 for a diagnostic test and leave my car for 24 hours. No one was able to inform me why my specific vehicle was excluded from the recall. If I'm telling them that I'm having a problem that they clearly know about why are they charging me to fix it?.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving approximately 60 mph, the exterior lighting, dome light, and all other lighting turned off without warning. The vehicle was taken to inver grove Ford Lincoln (800-730-1765, located at 4725 s robert trail, inver grove heights, mn 55077) to be diagnosed, but the technician was unable to schedule an appointment right away. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who changed all the fuses, but the failure recurred. The contact called hastings automotive at 651-437-4030 (located at 3625 vermillion st, hastings, mn 55033) and scheduled an appointment. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
Neither the air conditioner nor the cruise has worked since 46,000 miles. It needs a new air compressor which would cost over $1,000 and there are several other complaints for this issue plastered all over the internet.
This not my vehicle. This is a vehicle I found for sale on autotrader.
Vehicle at times with my foot on the brake pedal, just starts to accelerate for no reason when I stop a light or in traffic.
I purchased the vehicle as a used vehicle with 42900 miles. The vehicle has no history of an accident on the carfax report. The airbag light came on and the repair ended up costing over $1000 because new sensors had to be installed for the seat belt assemblies. The automobile mechanic said this is common for 2005 Ford automobiles. Why hasn't Ford issued a recall to correct the problem?.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contacta stated that the vehicle low beam failed. The contact had to engage the high beam while driving at night. The contact stated that an independent mechanic was contacted and the contact was advised that the headlights sensor may need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. I was traveling on northfield road in bedford heights ohio and turned right on to the drive way that leads to wal-mart. The steering wheel snapped completely loose spinning around. I lost control of the steering and the car crashed into a curb before I could apply the brakes. This occurred approximately an hour after I picked up my car from liberty Ford dealership for repairs done in response to recall number 13s08 - steering column shaft and customer satisfaction program number - 14n01. (lighting control module).
Heater blend door actuator stuck no heat or defrost.
Previously shows an open recall from Dec. 2016 for cracking solder on headlights going into the circuit board. Needs a solution to correct safety issue.
Heater/ac damper control actuator is not working.
As I was driving at night, my vehicle's low and high beams (lights) suddenly cut off. Unexpectedly, the road I was traveling became very dark because I live in rural areas in west virginia. Unfortunately, a second later, my car ran over a small boulder on the side on the road causing a damage (small cracks) at the bottom right hand side of my bumper. Nevertheless, I put the emergency lights on until I returned home right away. Earlier this week, I used the car again without any lights issues. However a day later, the issue returned again. This time I was traveling in the highway at 60 miles per hour. All low/high beam lights cut off. My only solution was to hold the "flash to pass" lever towards me, and the high beam lights would turn on. However, it is extremely cumbersome driving this way. I've been told by many mechanics that the main culprit is the lighting control module (lcm) and this safety issue has become extremely common in Grand Marquis especially 2005 models. Consumers and perhaps the government may need to further intervene, so Ford can do something about this safety/hazardous. In my case, my bottom bumper suffered, but it could have been worse - it could easily cause an accident at any given time. Currently, I only use my vehicle during the daylight hours. I've been told that repairs can exceed $700 or more and in some instances, the issue returns within a few months after replacing this part. This electrical issue should perhaps be further investigated as the lcm could be the main culprit, but something else could also be triggering the lcm to fail. Thank you greatly!.
I was driving along on a back country road with no moon or visible lights of any kind at 55mph when I lost all headlights, low beam and high beam did not work.
Driving home on highway at approximately 65 mph. Heard a click sound but did not relate it to lights immediately. It was just approaching twilight. I guess we did not immediately notice the lights as there was still some daylight. Next night driving in town after dark and the lights went out, just sudden darkness. We were on business hwy 23 going over the overpass in town and were able to get off on a side street and limp home hoping that we would not get stopped and cited. This is my vehicle that I use for my work. I now have to schedule my work around daylight hours as we can not find the light module to replace mine. This is a horrible danger to myself, my family and other drivers as well. We have called multiple places to find the module and they all say they can not get them. The most frightening of all, we have never been sent a recall notice on this. We are going to try a garage that services all the state patrol and police cars in this part of wisconsin. There are still some of the Mercury's out there in service. I suspect they will surely supply them with the modules. Hope to find one there so I can resume normal work hours and not have to schedule daylight only work meetings. I have loved this car for 8 years. Would hate to have to give it up for something like this but the fact that Mercury does not respond is upsetting to say the least.
Cannot shut lights off when I shut off the car. When I turn them on the sometimes work and sometimes don't. Riding down the hwy they just go off. I have been stopped by the police. Drivers window works sometimes and does nor at other times. Buttons for the passenger seat also works whenever it wants to.
Started vehicle to move it in my driveway. Put it in drive and throttle stuck open and vehicle slammed my garage corner. Tried putting it in park and it went into reverse (brake override did not work) instead and crossed street, went across neighbors landscaping stones and slammed into the house next door's front porch at which time the ignition shut down and the car came to a stop. Many thousands of dollars in damages to all three homes.
Lighting control module intermittently not working. Not reliable for evening travel. Part on back order from Ford dealer with no estimated delivery date - I was told anytime from 1 week up to one month. Will need to rent a vehicle. What compensation for car rental do you offer due to the fact there is no estimated delivery date for this part?.
June 10 while driving 65 miles per hour my lights failed. I was fortunate there was no accident. Took car to Ford dealership and was advised it was the light module. Dealership advised that Ford acknowledged this was a faulty part and the warranty on said part had been extended for 15 years. The local dealership ordered the part 45 days ago but has not been received. I personally called Ford's customer service several times but Ford still cannot give me an estimated date the part will be received. This same dealership has worked on my car several times but no one mentioned the defective module. This could easily lead toe death and destruction. Your help in resolving this matter would be appreciated. My case #with Ford is 4861647-0822-z8 I ran google search and this is a very serious problem and many people are not aware of it.

My head lights started giving me this problems on April 1 2014 they won't stay on so I have to hold my high beam switch so I can drive using my high beams sometimes my headlights do cone on but very rarely I have read blogs and I'm not the only one having this problems.
The headlights will suddenly go off and won't come back on. Eventually, the lights will come back only to go off again. I searched the internet and found numerous instances of this happing to this make and model yet, there is no recall.
My headlights will not come on at times or just come on for a couple of minutes and then they gone. I have gotten so many tickets for driving with my high beams and it's seem like the manufacturer don't care at all.
Similar to events as published in NHTSA action number pe08066, I was driving on the interstate at night and the headlights suddenly went dark. No warning, just went out. Pulled off onto shoulder and could not avoid sliding off the road - very dangerous. Finally figured out if you pull the turn signal lever all the way towards you it will turn the bright headlights on, but you have to hold it on position . . If you let go the headlights go back out. The problem is intermittent and appears without warning. 1000's of complaints about this same issue all over the internet - so I can't believe the agency closed the original investigation?? what could be more dangerous than losing your headlights at night?? there should be an immediate recall from Ford motor CO. On this issue! my local Ford dealer and communications to Ford motor CO. Have produced no help. This is approximately a $700 repair at the dealership for a proven defective "lighting control module". This is a "safety-related" issue if there ever was one!.
Lights went off while driving at night.
We had just left a funeral home and driving back home on a 4 lane road. We turned to avoid getting on the highway immediately and decided to take another route. As we were heading up this 2 lane road that was dark all of a sudden our headlights and instrument panel lights went out and cars coming at us were flashing their lights. I slowed down and was able to pull over to a side street. Sat there trying to determine why the lights were out. Turned the switch from the on position to the automatic position and the lights came back on. We drove all the way home on back roads to avoid getting on the interstate, not knowing if the lights would go out or not. Read the manual to see if we had missed anything and then got on the internet and saw the hundreds of people having the same thing happen to them. I will contact the dealer and see about fixing it but from what I have read, the light control module is bad and so are the replacements. I am hopeful that there is a newer improved model that is now being used. Thank god we were not on the highway or we could have been killed. This is a serious problem.
While driving at night, my headlights without warning, extinguished. I turned the 'high beams' on and they also failed to light. I stopped and after a few minutes, the lights came back on. I searched the internet and found that many Ford crown victoria / Mercury Grand Marquis (multiple model year) automobiles are suffering from the same problem. It is apparently a failure in the 'lighting control module' (lcm). There are many web sites that offer re-manufactured lcm's but I question why this is not a safety recall? I think that losing your headlights while driving at night would somehow qualify as a safety hazard and this should be the manufacturer's responsibility to fix this problem.
While driving my 2005,Mercury,grand marquis, at night, the headlights completely went out on me. . . Making visibility impossible. . . After much research on this problem,I find that alot of people are complaining of the very same problem with their Mercury, Grand Marquis. . . After reading of all the complaints about this problem,I wonder why this has not been on the recall list. . . . . . This is a severe safety issue!!! thank you for your prompt attention in this matter. ## VIN passed ## Mercury, Grand Marquis 2005 ##.
Head lamps go out or fail to come on.
I was driving home and my headlights cut off with no warning at night, they came on again for a min. , but cut off this has happened 4 times since. I have to hold my bright switch down for a 30 min drive home. I have had a fuses checked, after looking on line it looks like several people have had this same issue, this is scary, considering I have 3 children.
Headlight failure while driving at night.
At approximately 11:00 pm on 3/24/12, I suddenly lost my headlights as I was driving south through north carolina on interstate-95. I pulled into a rest area, and after a few minutes, my headlights came back on when I restarted the car. I drove for a few more hours without further incident. At approximately 8:00 pm on 3/25/12, I lost my headlights again while driving through florida. Fortunately, I was only a few miles away from my motel when the incident occurred. The next morning, 3/26/12, I took my car to an independently-owned garage, and the mechanic diagnosed the problem as a defective light control module. He was able to obtain a new module from a nearby Ford dealership and successfully install the module into my car. There is no question the light control module was defective because the mechanic was unable to restore my headlights by first trying to replace the headlight switch or the headlight dimmer switch. What's more, he was unable to get the defective light control module to respond to an external computer command. The repair cost $816. 77. I was concerned that I suddenly lost my headlights while driving on a busy interstate highway, but even more concerned when I heard a parts specialist at the Ford dealership that provided my new replacement light control module claim his dealership was replacing an average of three of these modules weekly on Ford crown victoria patrol cars being driven by local police. The idea of policeman losing their headlights during high speed pursuits at night made me very concerned. My concern was heightened when I started investigating the matter on the internet and read many stories similar to mine. A number of these stories suggested that Ford has known about these defective light control modules for quite some time and that a recall has long been in order. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter.
Description of the complaint: lcm known defect: both headlights failed, in both dim and high-beam positions. They will not come on in either the automatic or manual dashboard switch positions. (the bulbs are still good. ) the parking lights, turn signals, tail lights, and brake lights continued to function. This happened at night. It should be obvious that this failure will *always* occur at night, or during stormy weather, threatening safety, because headlights are not normally used during the daytime. Later testing revealed the problem to be intermittent. At one point, the automatic dashboard switch position worked for both dim and high-beams, but the manual switch position did not work. The next morning, both the automatic and manual positions worked. When the problem first occurred, neither position would work. This intermittent problem is consistent with a large number of complaints and reports for the 2003-2005 model years, and the problem is the lighting control module. This module is so unreliable that it has been named the "lights out module" on the internet. . Read more...
