I was driving the vehicle. As I started up a hill the speed limit changed. I gave the gas pedal a little push. It went to the floor where it stuck wide open. The car leaped forward and I immediately applied the brake. I really had to push the brake as hard as I could to get the vehicle to stop. When I got the vehicle to stop I knocked the gear shift out of drive into neutral. The engine was idling really rough but then it smoothed out. I did not crash the car and continued driving with no further problems. The vehicle has 64,875 miles on it and this is the first this has happened.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Grand Marquis. While driving 68 mph, the vehicle lost power and shut off. The contact restarted the vehicle and drove home. She later took the vehicle to the dealer for inspection. The purchase date and fuel type were unknown. The current and failure mileages were 6,000.
2007 Mercury Grand Marquis and 2007 Ford crown victoria owner manuals incorrectly state that the 8th character of the VIN # must be a "2" for the car to have a flex fuel engine capable of using e-85. This is incorrect. The 8th character must be a "v" for the car to have the flex fuel engine. This will be very misleading for consumers. The cover on the fuel tank lid says ethanol or unleaded gasoline only. Most consumers will not know this means they can use e-85 as e-85 is not mentioned on the gas cap or cover.
