3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2017

I was driving my 2010 Mercury Mariner , when the engine lite came on with a little wrench lite. My car started to lose power and I could not get it to pick up power. I pulled of the road. I turned off my car, I didn't know if it would start again . Very scary. I have only 86000 mile on it .

Car stopped running wrench light came on started motor put it in gear tried to go regular pace car did not go it is very slow no gas peddle turned it off let set for 2 hrs. Started back up runs ok but check eng. Lite came on called dealer.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/26/2016

Intermittently loosing power, intermittent wrench light. Power loss happens when going up hill from a stop or even when at a rate of speed on the freeway. Goes completely limp, but does not shut off. Almost rear ended by a semi yesterdaymorning. The wrench light goes off and stays off for a bit once you shut the car off, making diagnoses very hard. What once was so intermittent it was thought to be a fluke, is happening with more regularity. And I see other complaints but no recall for this issue, so I know I am not the only one having this extremely dangerous issue.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2016

While driving home from work last night, vehicle suddenly declined in acceleration. . . Started jerking and illumination of a "wrench" symbol appeared on the dashboard. . . Never had any problems with this vehicle in the past besides routine maintenance. . . Scared to drive it until problem is solved. .

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2016

Our 2010 Mercury Mariner had a clunking and loss of power on two different occasions. The first time we brought it to the Ford dealer and he checked codes, etc, only to find nothing. The clunking or loss of power did not came back for a while. Several months later while driving home from work, the clunking sound appeared again, there was an evident loss of power and the orange wrench displayed on the speedometer indicated an issue. I had to work on getting the vehicle up to speed and power again, slowing the traffic in back of me down. The vehile was purchased a year ago, almost to the day and has approximately 52,000 miles on it. I called the Ford dealer who made arrangements to bring the vehicle in for a check up. Based on what I'm reading, these are known issues with a throttle? not certain if there's a recall or not but will certainly find out. Basically, our vehicle is unsafe to drive.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/17/2014

I was driving my 2010 Mercury Mariner premium fwd to my mothers for christmas '14 when the engine light wrench came on and I felt a loss in power. Luckily I was near a rest stop and I shut off engine and let it sit after running a vehicle health report. Report said: urgent power train malfunction / reduced power. After restarting the vehicle, it seemed fine. This was when I still had about three hours left of driving in my eight hour drive. When I was about an hour away again the light came on and the same power reduction occurred. I took it to be looked at to the local Ford dealer near my mothers and was told the valve body needed to be replaced. This was at 74,000 miles. So I did. I had this happen once before (I had 58,000 miles on it) when driving to a shopping center after driving 45 minutes on the highway from home. Only happened when driving long distance. When I got off the exit, it jerked and quickly stopped and I had to pull over. If a car was behind me it could have caused an accident. . I drove it to the dealership and was told that I had a couple recalls (computer updates) and a service extension for the throttle body. Should fix the issue so it won't happen again said the mechanic. Transmission fluid was flushed cause it was burnt also. Had no issues afterwards until my christmas trip. I feel I could have been in an accident and seriously hurt if it had jerked while changing gears on a busy road. I would like to know why there is a throttle body recall but not a valve body recall? if these issues can cause a quick jerk or lost power causing a quick slow-down, seems like there should be a recall for both. It appears I am not the only one with these types of issues after googling the issue. Seems like its time to get these transmissions fixed correctly before someone is killed or seriously injured! please recall now b4 it's too late!.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2014

Coming to a stop at a red stop light and then trying to accelerate from red to green light at an intersection my vehicle went into limp mode, it lost power. It would not accelerate pass 10mph. An engine light came on as a orange wrench light. I drove as I could and made to auto zone. They plug in the hand held car computer and it gave the code p2119. Which stands for throttle body.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2014

Vehicle surged slightly for a few seconds then accelerator would not work. Wrench light came on. Had to pull over to side of the road, shut vehicle off, restart and it then worked the 10 remaining miles to home. I had just read about this happening a cpl days previous so I knew what it was immeadiately.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

My 2010 Mercury Mariner has started jerking when I attempt to slow down. It is jerking unbearably hard. I took it to a local garage, had both front and back brakes replaced. That did not fix the problem. While the backend of the car is jacked up, the back right wheel will still turn while holding the brakes??? the jerking of the car is almost as if the car is skipping a gear or trying to switch gears. The car is also making a whinning sound. I feel as if this is a safety issue that Ford should be responsible for. This is my second Ford SUV with my first being a 2002 Ford escape and I had a lot of "mystery" problems with it that no one could fix!!!.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2014

Twice in two days while speeding up to get on highway my Mariner looses complete power and the wrench light comes on. Lucky for me it was just before I was turning on to merge. Seconds later it would have been a serious accident, due to the sudden stop. I had to shut the car off and start it back up in order to get going again. After reading #pe13003 has been file for the same exact problem with same make and model. Someone better react before someone looses a life. This is horrible.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2013

While traveling at 65, wrench powertrain light came on. Able to get to side of road. Called Ford roadside, wrecker towed to dealership. Found faulty throttle body. Replaced under extended warranty. Scary situation.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2013

Was driving on the freeway going about 70 when I lost all power to accelerate. I noted the wrench symbol also had just came on. I was able to pull over to the shoulder and turn my car off. Before it turned off the car shook quite a bit. I let the car sit for about a minute re-started and noted the wrench was gone and I could accelerate. Later that day it happened to me again. Car is in shop and they told me it is a bad throttle body.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/09/2013

Loss of power on highway. . So thankful I didnt get hit by other vehicles. . Was so scared. . The wrench came up on dash. . . Ford said either drive train or throttle. . . Let me say, I have 48000 miles . . If have to pay for this, may call lawyer. . Have so many complaints and Ford had not anything about it. . . Are they waiting for a death??? my SUV was taken to ted russell Ford parkside drive knoxville tennessee. . . Have not heard the problem yet. . Very dissappointed with Ford product. . . If not took care of. . Will never by another Ford ever. . .

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2013

While driving approx. 45 mph the wrench-shaped warning light came on and I lost propulsion. . . Engine still running, radio, a/c still operating but 0 rpms. I coasted to a stop on a side road and called a tow truck. Mechanic tells me it is a failed throttle body and will be pretty expensive to replace.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2013

Driving when wrench symbol came on dashboard and rpms dropped to under 1 and speed dropped. Coasted into a parking lot at which point car completely shut down. Could turn car back on. Had towed and throttle body replaced.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

While driving upon a roadway in our neighboring community at approximately 30 mph, my 2010 Mercury Mariner suddenly stopped traveling at speed, and went into 'limp mode'. I was able to slowly pull the vehicle into a parking lot. I called my wrecker service and they towed (flatbed) my vehicle back to the Ford dealer where I bought it. I purchased the 2010 Mercury Mariner new from the same dealer. They examined it and determined that the 'throttle body' needed to be replaced. They declined to repair it under warranty, stating that the part was no longer covered. They also stated that a recall had not been issued. I paid a total of $409. 27 for the repair. The tow bill was covered under my membership in aaa.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

I was driving on the highway at bout 70 mph and all of a sudden, the gas pedal went limp and I couldn't accelerate anymore. I slowed down to about 45 mph with cars flying past me. I was able to move to the shoulder and turn the car off. I had no idea what happened so I called my boyfriend and he came and checked the oil and a few other things but everything seemed to be ok. I got back in the car and it started fine and I was able to drive it home. I am afraid to drive my car on the freeway again knowing this problem could and probably will keep happening until I get the part replaced.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2013

When driving at a slow speed of 20-25 mph, the vehicle stopped accelerating and bucked a little. The wrench (powertrain) signal light up on the dash, so I proceeded to pull over, put the car in park, and shut it off. After a few minutes I turned it on again and all seemed fine, though the car was now slow moving and less smooth through shifting. The same thing occurred 9 days later, with the vehicle responding even more slowly afterwards.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

Driving at 50 miles per hour the SUV lost all power and had to pull to the side of the road. Turned off vehicle and then restarted and ran fine. Three days later it happened again. Took it to the dealer and they told me it was the throttle body on the motor was bad. They said it wasn't covered under my drive train warranty and charged me 300. 00 dollars. The SUV only has 17,000 miles on it. . I read there is 27,000 complaints about this problem. Why is there not a recall on these vehicles? some one is going to get hurt or killed because of this problem.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

Driving to work on 1431, the car felt as though it hit a bump, lost all ability to drive. Pulled over to side of road, turned car off for about 10 to 15 seconds and then back on. At this point it seem to operate properly. Then about threee miles down the road it did the same thing again. This time there was no shoulder to pull off on, so traffic was tied up. Was traveling at about 40 mph this time. Did the same thing, turned off and then back on and seemed to work normal. Later that evening going home from work the car did the same thing, two more times before I reached home. One time as I was going from palmer to 1431 on a curve. The next time it was on a slight incline going home. The icon on dashboard was a wrench which indicates it had something to do with the throttle control. Took to dealer and they confirmed it was a defective throttle control unit, and charged $650 to repair. Beleieve that this is/was a serious problem safety wise and should have been covered by Ford.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

9/8/2013 driving 60mph I felt a slight jolt and notice a yellow wrench light came on dashboard. Then the Mercury Mariner decelerated and stalled to where I was able to move to shoulder off road, and turn engine off. At this point not knowing what to do I just turned car off for about 5 minutes and then re-start. There was no wrench light, but I did notice a hestitation for the car to catch. I drove home about 20 miles and the car drove rough as if it was having a hard time shifting and notice the rpm dancing back and forth from 3-1 on road inclines. Took it to mechanic and had a diagnostic test read no stored codes. What??? this happen within a 2 day period, car would stall, yellow wrench light would appear on dash. Took it to a Ford authorized dealer, and he knew exactly what is was throttle body malfunctioning. Paid. $301for parts and labor.

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/24/2013

I was driving my car merging on to the expressway in a construction zone and as soon as I got on the car completely lost power. I could not push on the gas or anything. Luckily there was an opening in some cones for me to barely have enough power to get out on one lane of traffic in a construction zone in morning rushing hour traffic. I had to turn my car off and luckily it came back on. I have read online that this has been happening to so many people that the part is on national back order. This is crazy! I had my 1 year old daughter in the car and we could have been hit. This is completely unsafe!.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

Driving to work when the wrench light came on and the car started to buck. Then the engine light came on and the car slowed down to 0 when I stepped on the gas pedal. Had to pull over quickly as I was in traffic and shut the car off. Started it up again and only the check engine light was on - car would only go about 15 mph. Found out it was a common problem being looked at by NHTSA. Power train throttle body had to be replaced. Not covered under warranty. I am not a happy camper it was not cheap to fix. Eec test code p2111 I found this on the web and was surprised to find out it has been happening since the model year 2009. Shame on Ford.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2013

While my wife were going out to dinner we were driving on the highway at 45 mph. I noticed a yellow wrench warning light appear on the dash. The car started losing power and began jerking. I could not accelerate and the speedometer dropped to 0. I coasted to the shoulder and stopped. I had to have aaa tow the car to my mechanic. He ran different tests and the readout he got from the computer was the throttle body assembly. He has a priority order for the part and said there is a national backorder on this part. I have an extenede warranty with (nac) and they told him they will not pay for the part. I have to pay close to $820 for the part and labor. Ford has known about this problem with the 2010 Mariner but will not have a recall. Do people have to die before Ford motor company acts? this is a disgrace for the consumer.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2013

Driving at 45 mph and car went into limp mode. Called for a tow truck to my dealer where I bought the car only 6 months ago. They said it was the throttle body. Did lots of research to find this is a huge issue that needs to be recalled. Ford needs to take responsibility before more get injured! my dealer refuses to cover this repair nor can give me an eta because this is on national backorder. Because this happens so much. Too, once the new throttle body comes, I'm sure I'd have the same issue as the part is a defect.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Throttle body,,,, driving down the street. . All of the sudden a wrench appears and the car does not go. . . Have to try and safely pull over. . . Have to shut the car off and restart it,,, this has happrd 6 times in the past week. . . Going approx 30 mph---. Also happened about a month ago on the freeway going about 70 mph. . . . Very scared. . This car is going to get me killed!.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2013

Car went into 'limp mode" at about 25 mph and the orange wrench warning light came on. Had to stop, turned off the engine and then restarted. Warning light went off but it occurred again in about 5 miles. Went to Ford dealer the next day and they could not find anything wrong nor duplicate the problem. Problem happened again a couple of miles after leaving the dealership. I immediately returned to the dealer and they once again couldn't find anything wrong. Two days later on I-95 the car went into "limp mode" the orange light came on and I drove to the side. The traffic was backed up so I was going about 25 mph when this occurred. When I restarted the engine this time, the "wrench" warning light went off but the "check the engine" light came on and remained on. Next day returned to the dealer and this time they said they found the problem and it was the throttle body. In researching on line I found that this is occurring with some frequency and would certainly like to see Ford take responsibility for issuing a defective part. As of now it looks like I will have to pay the bill and hope that the new part is not defective also. It is a real safety issue and hopefully this will be resolved.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

I was driving on the highway and all of a sudden lost throttle. The vehicle went into limp mode. I had to pull over and power cycle the vehicle. This happened 8 times in 40 miles. Each time the wrench indicator would display on the dash. I checked the error codes and there were several occurrences of p2111 and p2112. This happened to a relative driving my vehicle a couple days ago, and my wife a month ago. The issue seems to be happening more frequently.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2013

I was driving my Mariner and turn into a heavy traffic road and my car just went dead once I was in traffic. L was lucky that I wasn't hit from behind me. The car warnings displayed a wrench on the car panel. I took the car to the shop and it required repairs to the throttle control/power train. The car only has about 4600 miles on it. I have researched this problem on the internet and this is a reoccurring problems. There was no warning of a problem. The car just died in the middle of traffic. This is very dangerous and seem to be a known problem. Does someone have to die before they get this problem is recalled? the problem occurred so quickly that if you are not observant to your panel, you will miss it. And, it you are in an accident when it occurs, you will never see it.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I was driving down a busy highway when my car jerked and then stalled. The accelerator would not work. I was able to pull over and turn the car off. The car restarted and accelerated normally. This occurred three more times. I took the car to the dealership and they said the part was on national backorder and sent me home (in the unsafe car). I now am waiting to hear about when they can get the part.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I was driving at about 25 mph when the car suddenly lurched forward, then began rapidly decelerating. I had to get off the road and coast to a stop. I turned the car off then restarted it and everything seemed fine, but the problem happened again later that day and several more times in the coming weeks. It has happened at various speeds and under diverse conditions. It is intermittent and unpredictable. After nearly causing an accident on the interstate due to this occurrence I am now limited to surface streets and only when I have no other option but to drive my car. After doing some reading it seems that this is a known defect with the throttle body and I worry that even if I pay out of pocket to have it repaired I will only be buying another part with the same defect. My hope is that Ford will issue a recall of the vehicles for which this is a known issue!.

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2013

I was driving on the interstate when my gas pedal completely stopped working. The only indicator was the wrench light that came on at the same time the gas pedal stopping functioning. I amost had an accident trying to make my way to a shoulder with no way to accellerate during rush hour traffic. After being at the dealership, it was determined that the throttle body was bad and had to be replaced costing $500. 00.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

Was driving on interstate highway and accelerator speed dropped to a crawl. Pulled over and saw the wrench symbol. Got the manual out and it said throttle body/powertrain issue. Waited and restarted only 2 miles down the road again and that same thing happened. Car was still running but just going abt 2 mph if that. Very dangerous situation!.
