The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that no assistance could be provided because the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v284000 (steering). The failure mileage was approximately was 143,340.

2 Equipment problem of the 2006 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 07/06/2015

The warning lights had come on a few days ago stating to check the brakes. Today, when the engine was started, the message stop safely now came on. This does not tell me anything about what I need to do and how critical this error is. Can I drive it to the repair shop or should I have it towed? what has to be replaced? this car is driven by my son who is an inexperienced driver, so this is a major concern.

3 Equipment problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 06/26/2015

Was stopped at a red light, car had been driving fine, but when the light turned green and I proceeded my car suddenly had reduced power and would not drive more than 40-45 mph. No lights or anything came on the dash the first time. The second time however a yellow/orange wrench light appeared. I got home and parked for the remainder of the day but then the following day the problem still proceeded and I then let it sit all weekend. The following Monday I turned it on to take to the repair shop and the car drove fine that entire day. The next day, Tuesday, while driving home from work it happened again only I couldnt go faster than 30mph in a 55 mph zone. Car was taken back to shop and diagnosed as a failure in the throttle body. During this time of reduced power fans in the trunk space got extremely loud and began sucking in air, as if trying to cool the batteries. Needless to say Ford has been no help and I can not get to work as I cannot safely drive my vehicle due to the limp home mode activating and random times. The prior investigation infuriates me to see they extended a wattanty instead of doing recall because now owners like myself are stuck not even being able to get to the dealership because the car is not safe to operate.

4 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 05/10/2015

Returning from florida to georgia and passed a vehicle at about 70mph and released the accelerator but vehicle kept accelerating. I pressed the brake pedal but vehicle kept accelerating. I pressed the accelerator again and vehicle finally stopped accelerating. Additionally, "stop safely now" message intermittently occurs at highway speeds and around town in traffic and slows the vehicle to perhaps 10-15mph and tells me to pull over. This has happened randomly at unspecific times and in heavy traffic which could be dangerous. I have concerns that this issue needs to be a recall from Ford since a lot of people are having the issue from forums online and it could result in wrecks and maybe even fatalities.

5 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/06/2014

The SUV lost all power while driving 70mph on the highway. . . Everything went off including the engine. The dashboard led read pull over immediately.

6 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Driving at 50+ mph on multiple occasions and vehicle gives stop safely now message and suddenly reduces greatly in speed. It randomly has occued and when it has, I had to try to navigate out of 50+mph traffic after the vehicle suddenly reduces speed to about 20 mph to a shoulder or other safe area. Had the coolant pump replaced but still occurs. Ford said the twin vehicle the 2008 Ford escape hybrid has recalls for the throttle body assembly and blend door actuator for hybrid battery cooling system that have been identified as causing the stop safely now message which because the vehicle suddenly drops from highway speeds to about 20mph could cause serious accidents. Since the 08 Mariner Hybrid is the 08 escape hybrids twin, the throttle body assembly and hybrid battery system blend door actuator should be recalled on the Mariner Hybrid also and replaces to protect lives by preventing accidents because of the defective parts.

7 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/29/2014

My vehicle was part of the nationwide recall by Ford this summer. As instructed, I went into the dealership and my car was "given the fix". Not 1 later my power steering in my car has completely gone out. It is very difficult and dangerous to drive my car. I brought my car back to the dealership and was told that my car had already been diagnosed and "fixed" under the recall, so there was nothing further they could do. My car is actually doing the thing that the recall warned about and they sent me away. It has been 4 months, I feel like I take my life into my hands when I drive my car and Ford takes no responsibly.

8 Equipment problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 08/04/2014

My car, on 4-5 occasions now, has lost all power while traveling on the freeway at about 80 miles per hour. I called Ford because of the electronic throttle body customer satisfaction program and my vehicle does not qualify because of the assembly plant that the car was built at. I can attest that my vehicle is doing the same exact thing that is described in the accounts of the problem with the throttle - without question. I urge you to expand the program that Ford is being required to do for this massive (over 1 million vehicle) problem. This appears to me to go beyond a plant issue to an engineering issue with the part itself.

9 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/14/2014

I was driving down the road going 55 mph and all of a sudden my vehicle jerked. I saw a red exclamation point on dash and where the car mileage is located, it said stop safely now. So I pulled over and shut down the vehicle, restarted and it happened again one mile away. It continued doing this. It took over an hour to get 10 miles down the road to my destination. It has been doing this off and on for the past month. I finally took the vehicle to the dealership and they said it is the throttle body.

10 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/22/2014

Abs and emergency brake light came on spontaneously. Braking abnormal and unable to stop vehicle. Braking system not working. Neutral and had to do shoulders to control vehicle and slow down gradually. Very dangerous!.

11 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

While traveling down the interstate at approximately 70 mph on a Friday evening a red triangle shaped warning light came on saying "stop safely now", as the light came on the vehicle started loosing power going slower and slower, eventually slowing to 20 or 30 miles an hour, there was no safe place to pull over off the interstate. This was not safe at all. After pulling over, then pressing system reset buttons, turning off the vehicle and waiting a few minutes then restarting the vehicle it ran fine for the rest of the day and the following day. Then on Sunday (a day and a half later) I was traveling down the interstate and it did the same thing, the light came on and I lost power. I repeated what I did the previous time, but it did it again while on the interstate, it did it several times. When I got back on the interstate the last time I kept my speed around 60 mph and was able to make it home. This is not the first time the vehicle did this the same thing occurred about 6 months ago several times on the interstate. I assumed what ever the problem was it was it worked itself out because it had been so long since it occurred. I do not know what the source of the problem is and from what I have read I am leery of bringing it in for repair because Ford doesn't even seem to know the source of the problem from everything I have read, and the owner ends up paying a lot of money for repairs that may or may not be the source of the problem.

12 Equipment problem of the 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

My 22 year old daughter was driving my 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid back to college after spring break at home. She was traveling at 75 mph in the fast lane and the engine just quit. She had been driving for several hours at freeway speed. The "stop safely" light comes on and she was able to get to the right shoulder on electric power. Very scary! she waited 10 minutes and it fired back up and she was able to continue on to school another half hour. But she is now unsure when and if it will happen again. I purchased the vehicle used four years ago and it now has 70,000 miles. I just googled the issue and it seems to be a common problem. I think this should be a recall issue.

13 Equipment problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid

Failure Date: 12/12/2012

For the past 3 years I have been dealing with my 2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid shutting down in the middle of traffic and giving me the pull over immediately warning. I have had to replace the hybrid cooling system door actuator and the electric water pump (mec unit), all within the pat year and half. On June 11, 2014 the vehicle shut down again and gave my wife the pull over warning. I took it to the Ford dealership this morning and they said that the throttle body now needs to be replaced and they gave me the error code p1a0c. The funny thing is, this is the same error code they gave me when they said the electric water pump (mec unit) had to be replaced. I checked this unit the other day when the car died and it was functioning properly. There is a major issue with the Ford hybrid products and Ford refuses to fix them. They sold lemons to thousands of hybrid owners who have made complaints and Ford just brushes us off. They just keep telling owners to suck it up and pay to replace different parts. Please make Ford take care of these vehicles before somone gets killed because they do shut down without warning, has happened to me numerous of times in heavy high speed traffic and it is not a good feeling.

14 Equipment problem of the 2007 Mercury Mariner Hybrid
