Automatic Transmission problems of the 1997 Mercury Marquis

Four problems related to automatic transmission have been reported for the 1997 Mercury Marquis. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Automatic Transmission problem

Vehicle's transmission decelerates, very erratic operation.

2 Automatic Transmission problem

Down shift program exhibits a severe braking pulse that occurs at approximately 34mph whenever the vehicle coast with the gas pedal released, , causing the drive wheel to slip at the tire treads, on snowy, icy, grassy, or gravel surface.

3 Automatic Transmission problem

When coasting with gas pedal released at 34 mph, vehicle unexpectedly decelerates/brakes pulse down shifting occurs due to transmission design.

4 Automatic Transmission problem

The design of the automatic transmission results in unintended braking/deceleration while coasting.
