6 Headlights problem of the 2003 Mercury Marquis

Failure Date: 07/01/2014

I have read many complaints about this. My headlights go off about 3 blocks from home and then I have to pull the lever back and hold it to put on bright lights. I have been lucky and not been far from home and have to hold brights on, steer and operate blinkers all at one time. I cannot believe this has not caused a serious accident. I am in process of having an expensive lighting module put in my car. I totally resent them not doing a recall on this. What are they waiting for? it is an expensive procedure and I will be waiting to get a refund when they finally admit there is a widespread problem. Hate for them to wait until there are x number of deaths or serious injuries. Shame on them.

7 Headlights problem of the 2004 Mercury Marquis

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

This Mercury along with countless others has the headlights go out as you drive down the road. If this is not a safety issue I don't know what is. I have to pull off the road and wait till they come back on. I called my Lincoln dealer and they said it was $107/hour to diagnose the problem. If it is the lighting control module as it rumored to be the bad part, the cost is another $800. I think this should be a safety recall before people are killed.

8 Headlights problem of the 2004 Mercury Marquis

Failure Date: 12/17/2013

2004 grand Marquis LS, while driving at night the headlights would turn off on there own then come back on 5-10 minutes later then shut off again a short while later. My headlights are normally positioned in the auto lamp mode, it was no help to turn light off and try in the manual mode they just came back on when it felt like it. In side dash lights and outside parking/driving lights worked normally, emergency flashers worked normally. In the latest occurrence (12/17/2013) my headlights went out 5 times in a 13. 5 mile drive home . This is a very dangerous and should be looked into at once.

16 Headlights problem of the 1997 Mercury Marquis

Failure Date: 05/01/2004

Complaint received via e-mail. I have a 1997 Mercury Marquis with electronic lights. They are all controlled with a processor called an lcm for light control module. It is not to be confused with the cheaper automatic dimmer on the dashboard. The lights went out last summer, and the lenses turned yellow. I tried new bulbs, that did not work. I checked fuses and relays and all were fine. I replaced the turn signal light dimmer switch on the steering column, and that did not work. Finally this fall I called fords technical line to see if there was a bulletin or recall or a quick fix. All I could get out of them was bring it in. I, then decided to call parts, and was told that to fix it would cost $200. 00. Needless to say I found a way to bypass the computer, and wired in a relay that was directly connected to the battery. I spent 2 hours wet sanding and rubbing out the lenses to get them bright enough. I feel this is a safety issue, and should be a recall item. We have many obstacles that depend on bright light driving, including wild deer, and edges of roads leading to lakes. . . . . . . $200. 00 was cost for lcm, no labor , part *f7ab-136788-aa.
