Vehicle Speed Control Problems of Mercury Marquis

In firestone store parking area perpendicular to service for attendant to fill the rt frt tire. Pulled up to attendant , applied brakes and veh surged ahead, struggled to control to no avail. Made diffucult u turn to avoid drv into street traffic, crashed other veh, cont'd on jumping 2 inside pk curbs stopping as frame stopped res on curb.

The contact owns a 1996 Mercury Marquis. While driving 65 mph, the vehicle stalled and shut off several times. The intake gasket was replaced, but the vehicle continued to overheat. The contact received a recall letter (05s28) in August of 2007 regarding the vehicle speed control. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they disconnected the speed control switch and stated that the other failures were unrelated. The cost for a diagnostic would be $900. The current and failures mileages were unavailable.

The contact owns a 1997 Mercury Marquis. The vehicle speed control switch was disconnected on September 10, 2007. The dealer stated on three occasions that the part for the repair would be available. More recently, the dealer stated that they do not know when the parts will be available. There had been no failure to date. The current mileage was 93,045. Update 04-02-08.

1997 mountaineer, engine race, could not stop the car. Used the brakes but engine raced and banged into our house in order to stop. This was the fourth incident, in a month time. Other incidents were hitting a car in order for the car to stop. No one was hurt, thank goodness. But this was scary. Consumer could not get the vehicle to start. Once started consumer proceeded across the lot. Consumer stopped the car and when getting back in could not get it out of gear until after turning the motor off. As consumer approached the traffic light, he used the brakes to slow to a stop. All of a sudden, the vehicle jolted forward out of control.
