Takata recall. The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Milan. While driving 40 mph, the vehicle shook, sputtered, and lost all power. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart, but was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a faulty coil pack that needed replacement. The contact stated that the independent mechanic replaced three coil packs; however, when the mechanic attempted to start the vehicle, the coil packs exploded and the vehicle shut off again. The independent mechanic informed the contact that the repairs were too large of a job for him and suggested the vehicle be taken to a dealer. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v384000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified. The contact had not experienced an air bag failure. The failure mileage was approximately 43,200. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
