36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

The passenger side led brake light assembly is constantly illuminated as if the brakes are applied but they are not. Makes a safety hazard as it is distracting to drivers that are following and they may misjudge my braking. This is the second assembly that I have had go faulty. The first was the day I bought it but the dealer replaced the $400 part for free.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/22/2014

The drivers side brake light has intermitent operation. The lamp cannot be replaced like a regular turn signal lamp.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2014

Traveling to army national guard drill during the early morning hours is when this occured. I was going speed limit while turning right onto an onramp which leads to the highway. There was a weird vibration in the sterring wheel and it failed and could not be turned back from the right position. I am strong and I could not move it. This malfunction cause my car to smash into a tree. I was knocked out, head injruy, and very bad back/shoulder injury. I was taken by 911 to the hospital and I have been treated for multiple things. Ford is yet to repond to anything or to offer some sort of settlement for this which is absolutly their fault. I have got a lawyer to keep sending demands to Ford. Now, I saw on the news that this is actually a problem they are now finding out about and claiming no one has been seriously hurt from it. . . Well this is not true as I did. I am also seeking a negligence claim because a week prior, they replaced a faulty transmission in my car which also could have lead to this. Hopefully your agency does some serious investigation.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

I was merging onto a highway going about 60 mph. My car suddenly went into an idle and the wrench icon came on in the indicator dash. Luckily, I was able to pull over to the shoulder and no vehicle was behind me. I turned off the car and was then able to accelerate. Later in the day, I was again driving on the highway at about 65 mph. When the same thing happened. I then went directly to a Ford dealer. They immediately knew what the problem was and said Ford had extended their warranty on this problem to 120,000 miles. This is ridiculous! I am sure someone will and probably have been fatally injured because of this issue. There needs to be a recall!!.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2014

When the headlights switch is in the on or paking lights only, the right and left brake lights come on at full brightness. When brakes pedal is depressed, there is no change in brightness of right and left brake lights and the center rear brake light illuminates. When this was taken in for a required NY state inspection, the vehicle failed due to this issue. The mechanic working on the vehicle has stated that this is a very common issue with this year, make and model. Dealer has been contacted and stated the cost would be in excess of $1,000 to repair this issue. This is a safety issue that is most likely to lead to rear end collisions and is common in several different vehicles of this year, make and model. Manufacturer should be recalling vehicles of this year, make and model to repair this issue.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

Takata plus numerous other recalls: powertrain control module, "contamination on internal motor contacts of the throttle body" rear tail lights replaced, arm rest replaced as it became detached, battery replaced at 23k miles and does not hold a charge and consistently needs to be recharged. This happened at a light in a major and very busy intersection. I went and the car did not move and almost got rear-ended. It additionally over excelerated on its own. I had to get my car towed to dealer as the car died due to failed throttle.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

I was driving about 40 miles per hour and then all of the sudden the car stop working properly. The wrench lit up on the dashboard. I decided to pull to the side and turn off the car. After turning off the car, I turned it on again and I was able to drive for about 4 miles. Then, when it was time to drive it up a hill, it did the same.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2013

Advancetrac and power steering warning lights came on; lost all power steering. This is the third occurrence of the same problem. Dealer previously replaced a fuse, then the power steering unit. Will take it to the dealer for the third repair.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2013

The tailights never changed illumination, when the headlights where on. When the headlights were not on they illuminated according to brake petal pressing. Was driving at night with headlights on nd was rear ended due to the other driver knowing I was stopping. Thr other driver was hurt along with her passenger. Next morning to vehicle in to dealership was told it needed a heaglight control swith and an rear tail light assemblies. Not bulds but assemliea as these are led. 435$ for eqch taillight and 50 for control switch.

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

On 5 different occasions during the past week while driving between 70 and 80 mph on the freeway the vehicle stalled and went into limp mode. On one occasion this nearly caused an accident as the vehicle stopped in the middle lane of a three lane highway. No warning lights displayed other than "limp mode light" when the vehicle engine goes to idle. Upon shutting vehicle off and restarting, vehicle behaves as normal with no indicator/warning lights. Took vehicle to shop to get check engine codes, vehicle shows no error codes.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/06/2013

The initial incident in November, 2013 was the failure of the passenger side rear led tail light assembly. This resulted in the brake lights not operating when the brakes were depressed. A police officer stopped the car for a warning due to the brake light failure. Mileage on the car at the time was 12,700 miles. Due to the safety hazard the repair was needed. The entire assembly, not just a single bulb needed to be replaced. Approximately 10 months later in September, 2014 the driver side rear led tail light is now malfunctioning in the same way. Brake lights are again flickering and not working when the brakes are depressed. Mileage on the car at the time of this next failure was 16,100 miles. The dealer quoted price to repair is over $450! this car is garage kept, well maintained and has not been in involved in any accidents. Ford should fix this defect under a safety recall free of charge to customers!.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2013

Intermittent electrical connectivity and issue with throttle. Car has had problems since we received it in November 2010. Into walker Ford clearwater 4 times recorded - 2 other times not. Service department has replaced throttle body 11/12 and completed recall 13b17 (6/2014) but the same exact issues persist. Service department stated at least 4 times that they cannot replicate the issue or find the issue. Called customer service week of October 14, 2014 and was assigned jolynn legaul (866-631-3788 - ext 77722) who we talked to at length and send a follow up email (October 16, 2014) . Called twice and not returned our calls. Ms. Legaul said she would be back to us in a few days with a solution and have a service department prepared to fix the car. It has now been over 15 days since the original conversation. We are afraid to drive the car because,it has sudden reduction of engine power, revs into a high gear with no movement while traveling at 30-55 mph, and twice has died in the middle of intersection. Same issues as described in NHTSA action number pe13003.

48 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

I turned the corner today and my car suddenly lost power and sputtered and was difficult to steer. I managed to roll to the curb and front end started shaking so I immediately turned it off. Turned the ignition again and it struggled to start but did and then immediately repeated the above scenario. Fire station was on the corner and luckily three firemen saw what happened and drive down to help push my car into a culdesac. Waited 90 min for a tow to the dealer and now stuck with paying for a rental. I paid for an extended warranty and will be very upset if this isn't covered! very dangerous and I don't know that I'll feel safe driving this car anymore! a recall needs to be issued!!!!!.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

When driving at any speed and unexpectedly, the car loses power and there is no warning this is going to happen. I was thankfully on an fm road when car lost power - has happened daily and this time grandkids in the car. However, am a senior citizen and have to think quickly to get off the road - this time there was no shoulder and had to poke to a turn and drift down - I have read this has been reported to Ford and they say the car still has power enough to get safely off the road and not a risk??? surely they are kidding me - this is a huge risk and I bought this vehicle in August 2013 and it if oct and has been happening for awhile - I do not think I should pay for a repair after reading how many Mercurys are affected obviously with the same exact problem - the safety risk is getting rear-ended because when it happens traffic is right behind you.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

I was driving approx 60 mph on a highway. My car "jerked" forward once, and I completely lost the ability to accelerate. After moving to the shoulder of the road, my car was shaking and difficult to put in park due to the shaking. Car would start up again, but did not have the ability to accelerate except in low drive. Would not accelerate except in low. Had to towed to the dealership, where the throttle body needed replaced and kam reset. This is a 2010 car, fairly new.

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

When the headlights are on the brake lights do not work. When the headlights are off the brake lights work. When you turn on the headlights the brake lights go on. The middle brake light in the rear window does work. Took car to Ford dealer, $149. For diagnosis. Dealer spoke with Ford and they are willing to make repair at a cost of $100. Rather then $1000. Which is what it would cost if Ford did not pay for repair. I noticed that others had the same problem. Now I am worried that something else may go wrong with the electrical system.

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

Intermittent problem which occurred at variable speeds (25 mph, 40 mph, 60 mph) with rapidly increasing frequency in the week before the throttle body was replaced. While driving, the engine seemed to shift out of gear. However, there was no increase in rpm in response to the accelerator. Pulled to side of road with very low rpm, the vehicle was turned off and then restarted each time without problem.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Driver side brake light does not go off when lights are turned on. Judging by the number of complaints this looks like a common problem. Recall please.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2013

Both tail lamps illuminate irregularly. Sometimes one will stay on all the time as if braking, other times one will come on ,but flicker and still other times they won't work at all. While driving, I have no idea if they are working correctly or not. I am concerned that I will get hit from behind due to this problem.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/16/2013

Electronic throttle body failed as I was driving on the interstate. Car lost all throttle control, idled down to 1000 rpm, and rapidly decelerated in heavy interstate traffic. Had to pull over immediately.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I've had multiple issues with the Milan throttle body for over a year. Everytime I take it to the dealer they say the computer just needs reprogrammed. After I leave the dealership my car usually has a hard faluire just like it did before (loss of power, engine running rough, car rolls to a stop). I can completely turn the car off and turn back on and it runs fine again for a while and then does it all over again. The dealership will only keep reprogramming the computer. They have also replaced the throttle body 2 times but after about 100 miles it starts all over again. Ford has refused to do anything other than what the dealership can find which is only what the codes say (reprogram computer or replace throttle body). I'm not going to keep taking my car in every week to get reprogrammed. Ford has refused to give me a loaner car to use until they fix it. I've taken multiple days off work and arranged for other transportation for the previous work. However, enough is enough. I can't keep taking my car back for some that Ford knows needs fixed. This is clearly a significant safety issue. I travel a lot on highways and interstates and when I lose power I've had some close calls will accidents (re ended) and trying to get to a shoulder to pull off and restart car. I can no longer use my car to drive my kids around due to the safety concerns of being hit during a failure or stranded. I've made this known very clearly to Ford but they don't seem to care. If they do they are not acting on it. I would hate for something terrible to happen before they fix it. I'm not only concerned for my family but others that may be having similar issues with their car. All I'm asking for is for Ford to recognize this is a very real and serious safety concern. They need to look a lilttle deeper at the issue. I just want a safe car to drive until they can fix it.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/13/2013

While driving home from work on the highway at 65mph my car just stopped throttling and lost power dropping me to like 5mph the lil wrench light came on on the left then went off yet I still had no power. So I immediately turned on the hazzard lights and tried to make it to the side of the road through traffic and turned the car off after a few minutes I tried to start the car and it came on like normal to my surprise so I started to drive only to have it happen again and again before making it home. I literally just purchased the car 2 months prior and its been at the dealership, as they try to talk to Ford about the problem and how to get it corrected for the past month!.

58 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2013

I was traveling at a high rate of speed (70mph) when my engine began to "stall out" on me causing a rapid deceleration. I would say it stalled, but it did not 100% cutout, rather it went into the lowest limp mode on the engine. Luckily, since it was a busy time of night (approximately 6pm), I was in the right hand land and was able to pull off before being rear ended. . . Though it would almost inevitably happened had I been in any other lane. I was near an exit and coasted slowly in the limp mode and made it to a parking lot, where I turned off my car and popped the hood to examine the issue further. The oil was within range and belts were ok. Just as I was finishing the coasting, I saw the "wrench" light illuminate. After checking the engine, I was able to re-start my car and drive home without incident. I looked up the issue online & found many others with the same issue. I ordered oem replacement parts that took about a week to arrive. Over the course of that week, the issue occurred several more times and happened more and more frequently. I avoided highways altogether for safety concerns. I contacted Ford who told me I could have it repaired at my cost at a dealership (since I was a few thousand over the powertrain warranty). I bought oem parts & did the repair myself and the issue has not happened again since. This is the exact issue listed in NHTSA action number: pe13003.

59 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2013

I was driving about 45 mph and felt a jerk motion and lost engine responses to gas pedal. The check engine and the wrench lights came on. I managed to pull it over on the road shoulder and stopped engine and restarted it. I continued to drive and this happened again in 2 miles. I stopped and restarted engine and drove home carefully. I did a research online and found this might be caused by the engine throttle body issue complained by a lot of Mercury 2010 onwers. I called a Mercury/Lincoln dealer and they asked for $800 to fix it if this was a throttle body issue. They also told me there is no recall on this problem.

60 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Electronic throttle body stuck open and vehicle went into "limp mode". I was forced to coast to the side of the road, and shut off the vehicle. After a few seconds, I restarted the vehicle, and within five minutes, the same thing happened. I have had the car parked ever since because I feel that this is unsafe, as when this occurs, I have no ability to accelerate, I just have to hope that the cars behind me are paying attention.

61 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2013

Driving on freeway when vehicle acceleration became unresponsive. Pulled over to the side of the freeway and could tell engine was still running but not well. Turned vehicle of using the key and restarted the engine. It was a little hesitant to start - it took 5-6 seconds of the key being turned for it to start but had no problems after until the next occurrence. This occurred around 5-6 times until I could get it to the dealership with no regard for speed/road conditions/driving conditions. One moment it was fine the next it had no acceleration.

62 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2013

Commuting home from work the gas pedal became unresponsive, the entire began running very rough, and the red wrench symbol illuminated on my drivers display. Coasted to a safe spot to pull off, turned off the car let it sit for a minute or two, restarted the car, the display was clear, gas pedal response was good, and engine sounded normal. Drove home without further incident. Four days later a similar incident, contacted my Ford garage, described the problem and made an appointment for a diagnostic. Diagnostic came back with the throttle body diagnosis, the parts are on back order with no estimated receiving date. Will cost just under $500 to repair, 3 months out of bumper to bumper coverage, just under 27k on the car. Not covered under the extended power train coverage because it is a sensor/ electrical problem. I am 7th or 8th in line for the part when it becomes available at my local dealership.

63 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2013

I purchased my 2010 Mercury Milan used on August 30, 2012 with 987 miles. Approximately in June, 2013 the car's right rear tail lamp went completely out and I had a new tail lamp installed for $408 + labor. In November, 2013 the car's left rear tail lamp went completely and and I had a new tail lamp installed for $408 + labor. Now, March 6, 2015 the right rear tail lamp has gone out and I cannot afford to keep on paying these expenses when I now know that this is a Ford problem and due to poor engineering of the light assembly and because it has not been re-engineered to correct the problem, this will be a recurring problem for the life of the car. I run the chance of being stopped by the police for an unsafe vehicle.

64 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

The first incident occured when I was driving down the road with the cruise control at about 60 mph and the car would jerk and then would loose power and the check engine and the wrench light came on. The car would be in idle mode and I would have to stop and turn the car off and wait a few minutes before I try to start it again. The second is incident was basically the same only at a different location. The third I was in town going about 40 mph when the car jerked again and went into idle mode. The next few time that it happend I had a very hard time getting it started and moving again. Once I did get it started I would only be able to go a couple of blocks before the car would jerk and go into idle mode. I was lucky to get it to the Ford dealer without having to have it towed.

65 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2013

While commuting to work on the highway, the engine started bucking and hesitating, then went into an idle. I was able to pull over on the shoulder, shut the engine off for about 20 seconds. When I restarted it, it took longer to actually start. I drove for another 5 minutes and it happened again. This time I pulled over, turned the engine off and waited a couple minutes before restarting. I was able to drive to the dealer on side roads at no more than 35 mph without another incident. The mechanic told me the throttle body needed to be replaced and it is on backorder until mid-July - 5 weeks away! furthermore, since it is not on recall, they won't pay for a loaner.

66 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

I was driving when all of a sudden the engine shut down leaving me stranded. Didn't want to take any chances so had it towed to Ford garage for repair. They said it was the throttle body and it would be 200. 00 for part plus labor and diagnostic charge . This is a 2010 come on Ford !!! as a longtime Ford owner I am very disappointed. This was the second occurrence ,the first time it started up and I was able to go on my way.

67 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2013

Approximately one year ago, while driving at highway speed on a three lane interstate, my car stalled. I was able to steer it off to the shoulder and turn off the car. It then restarted and there has been no problem since, until yesterday. Driving at approx. 45 mph, the car again stalled. Again, I managed to get the vehicle off to the side of the road, turned it off and then back on. I was close to home so decided to try and limp home. I did eventually make it home but with numerous stalls, slowing of traffic and even through an intersection near a busy school at bus time. I stopped traffic numerous times and was not able to accelerate beyond 10-15mph. This morning, I am told by the mechanic that the problem is the throttle body. Apparently, there are no replacement parts available since many other vehicles are also in need of this part. I am home from work today, arranging for rental or courtesy cars, and I am told it will be approximately $500-600 to repair! I have owned this car for only 1-1/2 years.

68 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2013

While traveling at a speed of 70mph an heading south on i69 in my 2010 Mercury Milan 2. 5l premier, my vehicle jerked and started shaking with my rpm's jumping from 800 to 1100. The check engine light turned on and so did the wrench light. I turned on my hazards and made my way to the side of the road. I shut off the vehicle and restarted it and the warning lights turned off. I started on the road again and at about 45 mph it did the same thing. I got off at the next exit and went to autozone to get the code pulled. It was code p2111, throttle circuit in the open position. I did a google search and found out this is an extremely dangerous and common problem with this vehicle and the Mercury mariner, Ford focus, and Ford escape with the same engine. I called the dealership and they literally laughed at me and informed me that the throttle body is on national back order and there are currently 7,000 of these orders awaiting to be filled. The dealership also informed me that the manufacturer of the throttle body and Ford are currently trying to give an updated part number which means that they are making a new part to fix this problem. This leaves me with a three year old car completely useless sitting in my driveway. This should be a recall as any car that just shuts off while you are on the freeway is extremely dangerous if you do not know what to do in that situation.

69 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/27/2013

This is the first time this has happened but it happened twice in the same day. When driving the vehicle we experienced the "limp home mode" problem. I can see this has been well documented and the investigations are ongoing. Here's an additional problem with this event, we never got an indicator light of any kind on the dash. We took the vehicle in for service and the dealer was unable to retrieve any errors at all off the computer and they were unable to recreate the problem. Needless to say they were unable to take any corrective action. I pose this question, why when the vehicle obviously detected a problem to go into "¿¿limp home" mode would it not record the error in the computer? why would the dealership be unable to see it?.

70 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

On or about 5/20/2013 I noticed a taillight and brake light failure on the right rear taillight assembly. I looked in the handbook for a bulb number and it was noted that it must be replaced by the dealer. I contacted the local dealer and was informed that this was an led assembly and the whole taillight would need to be replaced. I was further informed that the led's were not the problem , but the ballast in the electrical system that was causing the failure. I was then told that the replacement was $500. 00. Led's are supposed to last for thousands of hours, unfortunately, judging from the number of complaints on the internet, my situation is not an isolated incident. It is ridiculous to have to pay over $500 to fix a faulty brake/taillight. It then becomes a safety hazard as people may not be able to afford such an expensive fix for what would otherwise be a $3-4 bulb. The consumer should not have to pay for a poor design and a potential safety hazard. I did contact Ford customer service and was told there may be some post-warranty funds available, but that I would need to have the problem diagnosed at the dealer. A service tech diagnosis would cost an additional $110. 00 with no guarantee of any financial reimbursement. Now over $600. 00 for a brake/taillight.
