general problems of the 2010 Mercury Milan - part 2

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that his father was driving 35 mph, and heard a beeping sound coming from the vehicle with an unknown warning light illuminated. The driver continued to drive the vehicle to his destination. The driver exited the vehicle and when he returned and started the vehicle the power steering was inoperable. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

Driving and steering fault showed on dash. Steering failed became dangerous to control vehicle.

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Milan. The contact stated while reversing out of a parking spot, the steering wheel became difficult to turn. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact stated that the power steering assist fault warning light was displayed. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be inspected. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact was informed that VIN was not under recall for the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 121,800.

The power steering went out while I was driving in a parking lot. I replaced the rack and pinion and it went out again the day after I got it fixed. Warning lights saying fix power steering now and trac control are on. My mechanic can’t figure out why the power steering keeps going out and isn’t sure how to fix it.

For years I have sporadically gotten a "power steering sensor fault" displayed when I would start the car. You could barely turn the steering wheel. In searching the owner's manual, owners are advised to turn off the ignition, wait briefly then restart the car (how this issue got into the owner's manual and could not be addressed and eliminated, I don't understand). This would correct the fault and the power steering would function normally. Fortunately it never happened while driving. In the last week this display was occurring more frequently until on 5/16/21 it would not go away and I could not drive the car. Today, 5/20/21 I got it towed to the local Ford dealer. The situation will probably not be diagnosed until next week. From reading everything on the internet, this is a routine safety concern, and a recall for the control module has been issued on the 2011-2015 Milan models. Unfortunately my car is 2010 and is not included in the recall. Aren't we talking about an identical control module as to those that have been recalled?? then why wouldn't the NHTSA not be concerned about this very similar safety issue??!! I'm thankful this didn't happed to me while driving!.

On January 19, 2021, I was backing out of a parking space and my steering wheel would not turn. I looked at the message center on my 2010 Mercury Milan and the message showed "power steering fault". I pulled back up into the parking space and shut off the vehicle and when I restarted it, everything was okay. I see where this is a recall on Mercury Milan 2011 and after. Please consider recalling this on the 2010 models as I see there are lots of complaints on this happening to the 2010 Mercury Milan. I'm concerned about it going out while driving down the road and having a wreck.

I drive a 2010 Mercury Milan. I've had no problems whatsoever within the last three years driving this vehicle. Yesterday (01/21/21) & without warning the service power steering message popped up on my dash board just as I made it to the store. I turned my car off and back on and had no power steering. I could not turn the wheel at all!! my car isn't drivable right now. I hope there's a recall on this vehicle. I just paid the vehicle loan off days ago.

Power steering assist warning. Power steering doesn't work.

My wife was backing out of a parking spot at a shopping center when the power steering went out on our 2010 Milan. There were no previous warning notifications prior to this incident. The warning lights indicated to service advance track and service power steering now. I have read that there are recalls for this problem with 2011 Milan's and above but not the 2010. Were the same steering components installed in the 2010 as in the 2011 and above. I'm thankful that my wife was just in a parking lot when this took place and no on the express way. Currently at the Ford dealer. Waiting to see what the cost will be to repair !!!!! does someone have to get seriously injured or die before Ford will include the 2010 Milan for this power steering problem.

Prior to incident I had a light come on power steering assist fail I would turn the car off and it would go away and didn’t have any issues. I was on a curvy county road leaving work and I got about a block away from job and going about 45 mph when my car starts ringing and said power steering assist fault and my steering was completely locked up I had to slam my brakes before I went off the road. Very scary I also had another light come on as I was sitting parked saying service advancetrac. Thankfully I wasn’t injured and it happens right before a sharp curve. It’s nearly impossible to turn the wheel. This could have been deadly. I had to get my car towed home. I called the Ford dealer about it and was informed it would need a rack and pinion and reprogramming that could cost me thousands of dollars. After researching the issue this has been a recall on many of the Mercury and fords and for some reason my year model is not included. Very dissatisfied with all the recalls I’ve already had. The purge valve almost got me killed in an intersection and caused my car to seize up in the middle of a busy hwy and would not go, like it wasn’t getting gas. I paid to have it fixed and about 8 months later they recalled it.

Electronic power steering suddenly stopped working while driving. I was able to manually steer to get the vehicle home. After researching online, this is a known and common issue. Ford motor CO. Addressed the issue in 2011 models, but not in 2010 models. I have found hundreds of complaints across various car forums for this issue.

My wife was driving the car and pulling into a parking lot when the service advantrac message popped up on the dash and she lost all steering control. Fortunately she was able to get the car stopped before hitting anything. I have noticed the last couple of days when cold starting the car and taking off in it the steering has been fighting back when trying to make a sharp turn. I thought it just had something to do with the cold temperatures and the power steering fluid. The car has around 149,000 miles on it. I was not in the car when all this happened so I can't give any more details than this at this moment.

Power steering hydraulic locked on me twice while driving first time I was on express way and hit wall 2nd time I knew what was about to happen and of course steering locked and I almost crashed again this needs to be addressed because my research shows me folks have died from this but because it's not enough deaths it won't be recalled this is crazy why recall 2011 that has same part and not 2010.

I parked my car 2 days ago in front of my house and the next morning I woke up I could not move my steering wheel, my car displayed on the dashboard �power steering assist fault� I can no figure out the problem.

Power steering assist fault indicator, 126,000 miles, $2200 repair estimate to replace the steering gear & rack assembly. Dealership said its a common problem for this model but the recalls only covered '11-'15. Called Ford customer service and told its not under warranty or recall so they wouldn't offer any reimbursement.

Riding down the road and the wheel instantly locked up on me stating in the message center of the car "power steering assist fault" service power steering" service power steering now" and service advancetrac" caused a accident and now my car cause so much money to fix. I lost control because the wheel stop turning.

Our 2010 Mercury Milan has 45,000 miles. As we were backing out of our garage, a power steering assist fault message displayed in the message center, and all power steering had stopped. We had the car towed to be checked, and the whole electrical power steering mechanism had to be replaced. We learned there have been thousands of complaints with 2010-2014 models, however, the 2010 model was not included in the recall along with the 2011 and newer models. With all of the data proving that the 2010 Mercury Milans had the same faulty power steering, we need to know why they weren't included. Our bill to repair this was $1948. 31. We are very thankful that it happened in the driveway, and not on the road where someone could have been injured. Knowing that this should have been a recall, and there are other 2010 Milans out there on the road with this issue is very scary. Please highly consider adding this to the recall list. Power steering has failed multiple times on the vehicle. The dashboard displays 'power steering assist fault' and the steering wheel is locked. This is very dangerous and this vehicle is driven my my 80 year old mother.

Power steering went out on 16 year old daughter while driving. Car had to be tied and cost 1300 to fix. See recalls on 2011 Milan's with same issue. Car has 70k miles. Feel we should be reimbursed for expense.

Driving home from church, the "service power steering now" indicator came on and the steering immediately became nearly inoperable. I'm thankful that there weren't many people on the road at the time. It was brought to the only service place on island that can diagnose this problem, but they have a 2-3 month waiting list to look at the vehicle. They stated that if there was a recall in place for the 2010 Mercury Milan, they could diagnose and fix the vehicle. Why isn't the 2010 Mercury Milan included in this recall - there are hundreds of incidents of similar situations.

While making a right turn (low speed) power steering cut out. Power steering fault warning came on immediately. I have noted many similar complaints for these cars.

For the third time in 3 years the power steering went out in my 2010 Mercury Milan. Ford still doesn't want to issue a recall on it and giving the �unfortunately you will have to pay for the repair out of pocket, but keep your receipt in case a recall is issued� speech. It is unacceptable to continue to have this issue. It becomes really unsafe while driving and having your power steering go out. Steering becomes virtually impossible. Not everyone can afford a $1,500-$2,000 car repair every year. Had I know this was going to continue to happen after getting it repaired the first time I would've saved money and gotten rid of it.

Was driving my 2010 Mercury Milan when my dashboard showed a service alert "power steering assist fault" and "service advance trac". I parked and turned the car off and then on. After I turned the car back on all power steering was lost. There are recalls for just about every other Milan for power steering but not the 2010. I cannot afford $2000 worth of work on a car that's valued at $4000. When I have to buy a new car over this, I will not be looking at Ford brands.

Upon research I have noticed there has a been a recall for the 2011-2015 Mercury Milan models but not the 2010. There are numerous complaints of same issue as my vehicle experiencing this problem with the mileage ranging from low to high. This is a very unsafe situation to experience with your family. 2010 Milan needs to be added to the 2011-2012 recalls. Dangerous to loose control of your steering while driving, this could be fatal on expressway situations.

While driving the power steering just quit and the "power steering fault" comes on the dash. I have read a number of complaints on these Ford electric ps issues and I am really concerned as to why this has not been recalled because it is a safety concern when the Ford is operated.

My 2010 Mercury Milan began to pull to the right after rotating the tires. The "service power steering now" indicator came on and there was no power steering. This is absolutely a safety issue. I tore my rotator cuff trying to steer the car. Ford is not recalling the 2010 model even though the electric power steering components are identical to the 2011 which is recalled. A very expensive repair, and don't understand why 2011 Mercury Milan owners are more valuable than 2010 owners.

For the last year, the power steering assist on my 2010 Mercury Milan will randomly turn off while driving the car and prior to starting the car. I can turn the car off, wait and the power steering assist will re-activate.

Driving around 35 mph on a curvy city street and a error message to service power steering soon alerted me. Before I could get a quarter of a mile down the road the service power steering now message appeared, within minutes after that my power steering completely locked up while I was driving. Had to get my car towed and the independent mechanic shop quoted me upwards up $1250 for the repair. My car has roughly 84,000 miles on it. If they are recalling the 2011 model for this repair then obviously the 2010 should be recalled as well if it has the same malfunctions, parts and assemblies. This is my only source of transportation and I can't afford such a costly repair.

Steering stop working when im driving thank god I did not have an accident you cant turn the steering unless you apply strong force on it that was the only way to move the vehicle away from the other drivers.

I was driving about 30 mph on a back street going home and my steering locked on me and I got a message that power steering system assist fault. I could not turn the wheel at all and then a message system advantrac popped up. I had no control of the wheel and I stopped real quick and ran into a ditch. Thank god no one was around and did not get hurt.

Steering locks up when in motion, backing up. Powersteeringassistfault or serviceadvancetrac comes up on the dash. This is a recall on 2011 - 2015 Milans, which have the same engine and assembly. There are over 150 listed complaints on the NHTSA site for 2010 models. There needs to be a recall on 2010 models. Is this a safe condition to drive with? who is responsible when the failure endangers drivers and passengers.
