1 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2026

1) the electric power steering system failed. The dashboard displayed the message “service power steering now,” and the steering assist stopped working, making the steering extremely stiff. The vehicle also lost reverse gear, where the engine revs but the vehicle does not move when shifted into reverse. The vehicle is still in my possession and available for inspection upon request. 2) when the power steering assist failed, the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn, which made the vehicle harder to control. This created a safety risk when attempting to turn or maneuver the vehicle in traffic or parking areas. Additionally, the inability to use reverse gear could create a hazardous situation if the driver cannot back out of traffic, parking spaces, or other areas. 3) the problem has not yet been inspected or confirmed by a dealership or independent service center. 4) no, the vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other parties. 5) the dashboard displayed the message “service power steering now,” and the steering assist stopped working. The problem appeared suddenly when the vehicle was started. The steering immediately became extremely stiff, and the warning message appeared at that time. This failure created a serious safety hazard because the steering assist stopped working without warning, making the vehicle extremely difficult to control. A sudden loss of steering assist can increase the risk of a crash, especially when turning, parking, or driving in traffic. I am concerned that other drivers could experience the same sudden steering failure. The vehicle displayed the message “service power steering now,” and the steering immediately became extremely stiff. The vehicle is currently undriveable in reverse and difficult to steer safely.

2 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2019

Power steering continually goes out. Have already had work done for it and still goes out. Have seen recall for power steering but was told by Ford that does not apply to my vehicle. Not sure why since vehicle is 2011 Mercury Milan and recall 15v340000 also lists this vehicle, but VIN does not show in recall system?? need to be fixed. . Dangerous and hazardous to drive an infant when steering intermittently goes out.

3 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

Our car suffered loss of power and erratic throttle (surges of forward movement even when foot not on the throttle) several times in January 2017. Car unsafe to drive, would leave stranded in the middle of high-speed traffic on highway. Diagnosed with a bad electronic throttle body by russel and smith Ford dealer in houston, replaced 1/19/17 under "Ford customer satisfaction program 13n03. " on 8/28/17 same symptoms occurred, intermittent power acceleration and loss of acceleration while at speed. Taken to brandon Ford (florida) that day, again diagnosed with a bad electronic throttle body, which was replaced. Picked car up 8/31, and within 1 hour we lost power while at speed. While at a red light, car surges forward even with brake pedal applied and no foot on the gas. Have again been told it must be a bad throttle body.

4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

Vehicle lost most engine power. Could only be driven at low speed. Turned ignition off and then re-started. Vehicle then seemed ok until it did it again. . . . . . And again and again. Took vehicle to dealership where they replaced some valve and gave the car back to us. Car did not make it 2 miles before it exhibited the initial problem. In other words "they fixed nothing for the price of around $500. 00. " the vehicle is now going back to the DE. . . . Stealership.

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2014

Vehicle traveling at 55mph and wrench light came on. Vehicle engine did not stall but dropped rpms and would not respond to pressing the excelerator. Vehicle slowed to a crawl onto tne shoulder of the highway. After putting car in park and shutting off engine and then starting up again the wrench light went off and the car ran fine. This has happened several times in the past few days even on the interstate with heavy traffic behind me. . . I have almost been rearended several times while I was trying to get off the road out of traffic!!!.

6 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Mercury m1lan. The contact stated while driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle sputtered when the gas was applied and then the vehicle stalled. The vehicle did restart after several attempts. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who could not diagnose the vehicle because the codes were lost when the vehicle is restarted. The manufacturer was notified of the defect. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000. Rg.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Driving near 55 mph on local highway and applying pressure to gas pedal to accelerate. Felt and heard a 'clunk'. Vehicle immediately lost ability to accelerate with pressure applied to gas pedal. Exited to shoulder. Noticed yellow service (wrench) indicator light was on. Put the car into park and turned off ignition. Re-started vehicle; service indicator light did not come back on. Put the car into drive and re-entered traffic flow. Did not have an incident in another 30 miles of driving. Took the vehicle to dealer for diagnosis. Dealer diagnosed problem as requiring new throttle body. Very dangerous situation.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

On 10/3/13 while driving home in heavy traffic on the interstate my 2011 Milan with 44,000 miles on it sputtered and died at freeway speed. Still had electrical power and the wrench warning light on the dash was lit up. I was able to coast to the shoulder and stop the vehicle. Once restarted the car went three days before again dying on the interstate in heavy traffic, after doing some research I discovered this was a common problem with Ford throttle bodies on several makes and models. 10/12/13 I purchased a new throttle body from my local Ford dealer and installed it the same day. I test drove the vehicle and it appears that the new throttle body fixed the issue and also another symptom I had been noticing, it was a very slight hesitation in the transmission in all gears.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2013

I was driving about 55 mph when my cars speed started reducing. A wrench light appeared and my car would not move. The gas pedal would not engage speed and the rpm's were at a stand still. This has happened 3 times within 2 1/2 weeks.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

The vehicle stalled while driving at 55 mph. No power to accelerate and had to pull over on hwy. Happened a second time while accelerating at a green light.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

Rreturning to baltimore from working in harrisburg PA and driving on interstate 83 at a rate of 65 miles per hour. I was driving in the left lane and the shoulder was to the far right on this particular stretch of road. The Mercury Milan that I had purchaed no more than 2 to 3 months prior simply loss all power. To further explain the loss of power ( applying pressure to the gas pedal did nothing to make the car go forward) this had me in a very dangerous place as in order to get the car safely onto the shoulder I needed to drift uphill and across several lanes of fast moving traffic. Fortunately I was able to get the car off the road but found later that the issue that caused this was a throttle body piece that Ford knew had problems. I have three children in the car with me and my fiance at the time and all of our lives were endangered by a part that a billion dollar company put into its mid- level working class consumer vehicle. I have not felt so disrespected and that my life and that of my family meant so little to someone as I did when I found that this is a known issue. This cannot be simply a buy the piece and replace it type of deal as I no longer trust the integrety of the vehicle as a whole . And furthermore how dare Ford think that I should pay for their poor craftsmanship in using a faulty part. This part needs to be recalled and Ford needs to be fined big time for endagering the lives of anyone who drives or rides in vehicles with this limp home type of construction.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

2011 Mercury Milan. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle issues. The consumer stated while driving on the highway, the vehicle jolted hard and lost power. The wrench and engine light illuminated. The consumer stopped the vehicle in the middle of traffic and put it in park, then re-started it. When she re-started the vehicle, she drove a few feet and the rpm's went to 5,500 and the vehicle jerked for miles, until she was able to pull over to a safe place. The consumer stated she experienced the failure three times.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/27/2013

Driving 2011 Mercury Milan 65mph on interstate (in construction zone) vehicle jolted hard and with loss of acceleration. There was not enough acceleration to get to a safe spot and traffic was heavy so I came to a slow jerking stop with semis honking, passing by and ten cars screeching to a stop behind vehicle. Wrench light and motor light came on in message center. I had to come to a stop in the middle of traffic to put into park and then restart my car. When I restarted it and drove a few feet the rpm?s flew to 5,500 and the car jerked for miles until I could get out of construction zone and pull over to a somewhat safe spot. My Mercury Milan only has 48,000 miles. This scary occurrence has happened 3 times now, once on another highway and another on a residential road. Even after getting the throttle body diagnosed and replaced this is still an issue. I am taking it to the Ford dealership for the fourth time with hopes that they can fix the problem. I am scared to even drive the car. It is not safe and I will be very displeased with Ford if there is not a recall considering how dangerous this manufactured product is. Thank you for your cooperation and I hope no one gets hurt because of this issue that so many people seem to be having as well.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2013

On several occasions I will be driving my car and it begins to shake and cut off. The battery light comes on and a wrench will appear next to the parking light. I was stopped at a stop light, once the light changed I took my feet off the break and pushed on the gas. My car stalled then shook as I drove forward through the intersection my car cut off again. I had to urgently put on my flashers. I have a child and that us very dangerous. I tried starting my car again and it made the sound as if it were going to start but it didn't. The battery light came on again. I tried another time and it worked. I began driving for no more than 3 minutes and my car shut off again. I turned into a parking lot and tried to start my car. We sat there for 5 minutes. The I drove to walmart which is usually only a few minutes away. My car shut off at 4 lights on the way to walmart, and pulling into the walmart parking lot, 4 lights on the way home. This was all in one day. I am so afraid to get on the highway because my car could go out while I'm driving and someone may run into the back of my car.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2013

I had five separate incidents where my 2011 Mercury Milan lost all power and acceleration before I was able to take it to a dealership. Twice right when I started my vehicle the car had no power to move from park and the wrench light was on. When I shut it off and turned it back on it struggled to start at first but then started and drove normally. The other three times I was driving down the street (luckily not a highway) at around 40 mph and all of a sudden the car shook, the wrench light came on, and I lost all acceleration and power. I quickly turned my hazards on and coasted to the side of the road where I shut off the car. Again when I started the vehicle it struggled a bit but then started normally and the wrench light went off and drove like nothing had happened. I only got about 2 miles down the road when it lost power again. . . And then again. When I took it to the dealership they said it was a throttle body issue and that the fusions/milans have been having this problem. I was shocked this wasn't covered under my 5 yr 60,000 mile warranty. What was even more troubling is the fact there has not been a recall on this part given the huge problem with it. Come on Ford, really? is it going to take someone getting hurt or worse killed before you issue the recall? all you have to do is search this issue and you will find dozens of reports and forums with people having the same problem. Luckily the dealership I was able to get my vehicle to (I took it to the closest one to my home because I was afraid of losing power while on the highway and possibly getting in a wreck) was able to get the part in about 7 days even with it being back ordered. In total I ended up dropping about $400 to replace it. I'd be very disappointed in Ford if a recall wasn't issued and I didn't get this money back.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2013

After driving about 28 miles the car lost power while going downhill at 75 mph on the freeway. The "tool wrench" light came on and the car continued to lose speed. Pulled into the emergency lane and put the vehicle in park. Put it back in drive and the rpm jumped from 900-1100 rpm and car surged at about 3-5 mph; it would not go faster than 10 mph. Stopped and put it back into park and turned off the ignition and let the car sit for about 1 minute. Restarted the car and it started very roughly, it did smooth out and idled at 1000 rpm. The "tool wrench" light was no longer on and the car drove normally the rest of the way home which was about 11 miles. The car has almost 59k miles on it.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2013

I had just pulled out of my driveway, pushed on the gas, and the car started sputtering and jerking and came to a stop. The "wrench" light and "check engine" light were lit up on the dash. Thinking perhaps just a fluke, I turned the car off for a few minutes, then turned it back on and let it idle for a minute. The wrench and engine light were no longer displayed, so I drove again. My max speed was maybe 15 or 20 mph. Not 30 seconds later, the car again did the same thing, with the wrench and engine lights coming on. Luckily I was at a stop sign and in a residential neighborhood. I turned the car off again, and drove back home this time. It was really scary. Luckily I wasn't driving on the interstate at a high rate of speed! definitely a safety issue here! a friend of mine with a computer diagnostic thing, came over and tested the car about an hour later. The error code was throttle actuator control system. My friend cleared out the code and I was able to drive it around the block without it happening again. I plan on taking it to the dealership tomorrow. According to these similar complaints, it appears to be the throttle body and not a cheap fix!.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/07/2013

Transmission issues: problem mainly occurs when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear while in "drive" or automatic mode. Under slow to moderate acceleration, the engine rpms go up to approximately 3,500 proceeding to shift abruptly into 3rd gear. This issue can be replicated whether the vehicle is at normal operating temp or below. This has caused wheel spin with wet and snow covered roads resulting loss of control/ skidding while turning under the above circumstances. The hard shifting was noticed the day I bought the vehicle and more so during the last snow fall when it became a concern!.
