2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 07/12/2019

Reference TSB 11-10-21, the car will surge and try to move forward quickly when at low idle and slowly moving at times when the car is close to another car such as parking in a parking lot. If the driver isn't quick-reacting with the foot already on the brake pedal, the auto could move quickly and contact the nearby auto or structure before the brake is pressed stopping the vehicle from lurching/surging forward. There is a TSB issued, but it should be a safety recall due to the risk of contacting another nearly vehicle or structure. It has steadily grown more frequent over the past year.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 06/21/2016

Car runs great for about 20 minutes then I get a surge in the engine, dash cluster goes dead, car jerks and I lose power randomly. Everything comes back on but will go out multiple times getting worse everytime. I have lost power to transmission once, no forward or reverse. Replaced the dash cluster and car ran great for 2 days then started all again. This happens mainly while in the city, hasn't happened on highway yet thank goodness. Car just sits in driveway, afraid to drive it. I see countless people with this issue all the way back to when car was released and still no solution.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

When I started accelerating it would studder when rpms went up and then basically wouldn't let me go over 50. I took it into car repair shop and they said my throttle body needed to be replaced. I looked online and saw this was a recent recall. Have I missed out on this or what? I need some answers please!.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 05/25/2014

Upon entering traffic flow on I-94 westbound near new buffalo michigan the acceleration of engine quit instantaneously and the engine warning light lit up reading something about a fail safe mode. After coasting back across two traffic lanes to the side of road I shut the engine down. To keep from getting stranded along the highway and since the engine info light read all systems were ok after waiting a few minutes I restarted the motor and it ran ok. I stayed in the slow lane so I could pull off the road if it happened again which it didn't . The next day on county road 500n in indiana it did it again.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 03/10/2014

When driving the car comes to a sudden stop and only allows me to go 20-25 mph. Very unsafe. I was on the freeway going about 65mph and then engine lost power - speed dropped to 20 mph on the freeway. Luckily I was able to pull over in time avoid a high speed collision. The sudden engine power loss happens going at different speeds even as slow as 30 mph. The rpm needle goes up and down. I have had the the throttle body cleaned at the dealer from a previous recall, and have gotten the throttle body cleaned again.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

I was in the meddle lane of a four lane highway when I lost all my acceleration. The motor was still running but I could not go anywhere. When I got off the highway I restarted the the car but every few miles it would do the same thing. Am told that it is a bad throttle body and Ford has known about it for years but is not doing anything about it. It is going to get people killed ! my part cost over 600. 00 so it sets in the drive.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 03/21/2013

As I backed out of a parking space, the car surged & I hit another parked car behind me. Even though I had my foot on the brake, the car accelerated for a few seconds. I then placed the other foot on top of the right foot & put the gear into park & the car stopped.

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Car lunges forward and backwards when putting into gear (drive or reverse). It is extremely noticable to passengers and others. It is dangerous, as you have no control over the lunging motion that could possibly pin someone walking nearby as you are parking the vehicle. It appears this is a common problem that has been reported by many and action needs to be taken by the maker to correct the problem.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 07/20/2012

Car was completly stopped at a red light. Then all of a sudden the car lurched forward 5 feet with foot on the brake. This makes the 3rd or 4th time in the past year it has happened. Lucky no one was in front of me.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

The instrument gauge on my 2005 Mercury Montego just went "dead". Nothing registered, so there was no reading on my speed, engine heat gauge, fuel level, or tachometer. This happened once in early spring of this year (2012), but did not repeat until recently. It is now June and the same thing has re-occurred about 10 times in the past two weeks. After turning the car off and restarting, this sometimes (but not always), "fixes" the problem. Most recently, if the gauges do work, the "check engine" light turns on. The airbag light stays on, and the awd malfunction message displays in the information panel until I hit the reset button. From a safety perspective, is this a short in the system or is my airbag really malfunctioning? and how do I know my speed other than to guess?.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 04/05/2012

The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Montego. While driving 15 mph around a corner, the vehicle jerked and the check engine and fail safe mode warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body control unit failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

After the engine warms up, upon acceleration and the automatic transmission is shifting gears from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 there is a stuttering and often a jerking when the automatic transmission is shifting. This jerking also occurs upon slow braking when the transmission is down-shifting from gears 4 to 3 to 2 to 1. It's getting worse!!.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

Have a 2005 Mercury Montego,on many occasions the engine suddenly surges and the rpm increase. This is dangeous and I quickly have to stomp on the brakes. Happens in both. Drive and reverse. Affraid I will hit someone or something when I pull out of a parking space. Have brought car to dealer 3 times and they say they cannot replecate and cheked computer codes and found nothing wrong this is an accident wating to happen.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Engine revs up, and car lurches, typically when: - shifting into drive or reverse and/or moving away from idle; - almost always when the wheels are cranked all the way to the left or right and the car is moving away from idle. The lurching is sudden and "violent" enough that it can catch a driver unprepared - my wife and I are used to it and able to compensate, but we aren't letting our 17 year-old drive the car for now unless one of us is with her. Ongoing problem since car was purchased new. This has been an occasional problem for years - complaint was even made while car was still under its 3 year/36,000 mile warranty (nothing found). Problem has been getting more frequent over the past year or so.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 09/23/2010

My 2005 Mercury Montego (79,000mi. ) has unexpectedly lurched on two occasions. The first time I was driving slowly in a parking lot, and the car suddenly accelerated and lunged forward. Braking helped, but the lunging occurred again each time I tried to drive forward. I was able to move into a parking space and turn the car off which stopped the lurching movement. I sat for several minutes, restarted the car and drove away without incident. This didn't happen again for several months until a similar occurrence yesterday. This time I was ready to back out af a parking space, put the car in reverse and it surged backward. I depressed the brake, put the car in park, and shut it off. Once again I waited several minutes and drove away without incident. This is a very dangerous situation as people could have been close to the car when it lunged, or I could have been in traffic. I consider this to be a serious safety issue. With both of these occurrences the " fail safe mode" message appeared.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 05/20/2010

1. Any time the engine is on, but especially with the air conditioner on. 2. When shifting into gear (drive or reverse), the engine revs up to approximately 1300 rpm for approximately a second. If the brake is not firmly applied, the car lurches forward or backward 3. Nothing yet; throttle body cleaning or replacement is suggested.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 02/16/2010

Car showed "failsafe engine mode" on the display panel and did not respond when I hit the gas almost causing an accident as I attempted to change lanes. Engine response was intermittent after this and then the "wrench" symbol showed up. I pulled into a gas station and turned off the car to try and look at the owner's manual to see what this meant. Could not find details. Turned the car back on and the "wrench" was gone and the "failsafe engine mode" display was no longer showing. Worried this may happen again. . .

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 03/03/2009

I like my car except, except for being scared of driving on the freeway or trying to go up a hill and don't even think about passing someone. When the car's engine need to shift it will shift so hard it almost throw me into the back seat of another car or that is how I feel if I don't hold on to the steering wheel tightly. Their is something wrong with the transmission drive shaft or trans system and it needs to be recall. I just had to replace the upper roll retractor which was recalled on other Mercury cars except according to Mercury not my year or car. . . Come on. . . . . Yes it's should have been a recall on my car as well. Question what to do. . . .

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

2 problems with car 1) transmission failed at less than 20,000 miles and 2) cylinder 5 failed at 30,000 miles.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 10/30/2007

Purchased my 2006 Mercury Montego in 2007. Car has always seemed to idle too fast. Car will suddenly lurch forward or backward, seemingly without provocation. I am fearful of my safety, safety of others or of damage to surrounding vehicles/property. Mechanics I have contacted have reset the computer, but the car always returns to the same issue after a day or so. Mechanics are baffled over this issue. It is almost as if the car has a mind of its own.
