1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 07/03/2019

Multiple instances of my car accelerating while in a lower rpm such as at a stop light, drive thru window and parking lots. Especially increased instances when the air conditioning is running. This also causes the car to die completely in some cases. I have to try to pull over somewhere in order to put the car in park and restart it. This issue with the acceleration is increasing in frequency lately. I can count on it to happen every single time I have the air conditioner running and sometimes when it is not. Problem has occurred hundreds of times. It is very dangerous! if I were slow to react to the acceleration, the car would definitely run over a pedestrian or hit another vehicle! local Ford dealership vehicle was purchased from said they were not aware of any issue like this occurring in other like models. Please help! last night my husband and I went through a local restaurant drive thru window and while going through the line, the engine surged 5 different times! these are not slight little rpm bumps, these are full fledged "the car thinks I am mashing down on the gas pedal to obtain speeds of like 45 mph" accelerations! today I was driving at around 35 mph with the air conditioner on and turned the cruise control on. The car died when it reached a downhill turn at the point I would have expected the cruise control to hold back the speed. Of course the power steering went out when the engine died, so I had to try and find a place to "float" into in order to turn my car off and restart it. I need this fixed very badly before my family and I are in an accident. I cannot afford to spend thousands of dollars at the dealership hoping they get the correct diagnosis nor can I afford a new car.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 03/12/2018

The car has been lurching forward and decelerating randomly. Keeps going into "failsafe engine mode" and the wrench light comes on but only for a few moments, then runs normally again after restarting. Haven't been able to have the light on long enough to get diagnostics done. Happens while driving or when starting occasionally.

4 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

My 2005 Mercury Montego shuts off while going down the road. I have paid around $4000 to try and have the problem fixed and it has never stopped. The reverse gear is unusable, as soon as you put it in reverse it shuts the car off. The transmission jerks and will not steadily accelerate at random times. The car will randomly shut off when going down the road losing all power steering and power braking ability. This is particularly a problem considering I have an infant in the backseat most every trip. I saw this lawsuit and every single thing listed about the cvt transmissions has happened and is still happening to my 2005 Montego.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

Vehicle was started first thing in morning and driven approximately 25' when the transmission seemed to disengage and warning lights came on. Car remained parked for about 30 minutes and a second attempt was made. The car was driven approximately 2 miles when once again the transmission failed to engage and a loss of power was experienced. Following these two incidents with the vehicle I arranged to have the vehicle flat bedded to the local Ford dealership where it was determined that the problem was a defective throttle body assembly the vehicle has 68,250 original miles on odometer.

6 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

I was in the meddle lane of a four lane highway when I lost all my acceleration. The motor was still running but I could not go anywhere. When I got off the highway I restarted the the car but every few miles it would do the same thing. Am told that it is a bad throttle body and Ford has known about it for years but is not doing anything about it. It is going to get people killed ! my part cost over 600. 00 so it sets in the drive.

7 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 05/08/2013

On 2/27/13 throttle was cleaned not replaced per Ford recall 12no3. On 5/18/13 being stuck in construction traffic at a stand still, foot on brake engine proceeded like a 747 getting ready to take off. Car moved forward some 1 to 2 ft. . Killed engine, turned it on again with foot on brake car proceeded to move. Killed engine, turned back on. No other problem until I was at a stop light on way to destination. Again engine begin to whine at high rate as if I was in neutral and had foot a gas. Killed engine and was able to proceed to destination without problem. Took vehicle to Ford dealership on 5/9/13. Dealership did diagnostic, found throttle body bad. Had to be replaced. There was on or about 3500 miles on vehicle since time of cleaning to repair. Of the 3500 miles, 2000 was on our trip. Talked with Ford corporate stated dealership problem not theirs. Ford is aware of this problem and has chosen to clean rather then replace. It is my understanding that this throttle control ties into the transmission in which Ford has had their share of problems.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

In the fall of 2012, I noticed the engine would 'rev up' when I started the car and put it in gear causing the car to 'lunge' if I didn't have the brake firmly depressed. I took it to my local mechanic who couldn't replicate the issue. It continued to happen so now I hold my foot firmly on the brake for several seconds when I put the car in gear. In December 2012 or January 2013, I received a safety recall letter from Ford for the throttle body. The letter stated exactly what my car was doing. I took my car to the dealer (lb smith) on February 18 to repair the throttle body per the safety recall letter. The 'repair' didn't fix the issue. On Saturday, may 11 while sitting at a red light my car 'lunged' forward about a foot while I had my foot firmly pressed on the brake. We immediately took the car to lb smith and scheduled an appointment for the following Monday. I was informed the safety recall was for a one time cleaning of the throttle body and my throttle body needed replaced at a cost of approximately $750. 00. I called Ford's toll free number to see if some assistance could be provided as it was a safety recall that wasn't fixed. I was informed that no assistance could be given. Since then, my car has 'lunged' when I slow down to pull into gas station pumps and into parking spaces. It has escalated from lunging when I put the car in gear to lunging when I am sitting still and when I slow down.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

Car lunges forward and backwards when putting into gear (drive or reverse). It is extremely noticable to passengers and others. It is dangerous, as you have no control over the lunging motion that could possibly pin someone walking nearby as you are parking the vehicle. It appears this is a common problem that has been reported by many and action needs to be taken by the maker to correct the problem.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 01/08/2012

When shifting out of park or neutral, or from drive to reverse (or reverse to drive), the car lurches forward or back with no warning. This can be a hazard, if near pedestrians or if parked in a tight space. Additionally, if this occurs several times,(eg:parking) the car will stall & the repair "wrench" on the dashboard lights up. The car must be turned off for about 1 minute & re-started to get back to normal. This unfortunately is too common occurrence. Is Ford waiting for a fatality before taking steps for corrective action.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

After the engine warms up, upon acceleration and the automatic transmission is shifting gears from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 there is a stuttering and often a jerking when the automatic transmission is shifting. This jerking also occurs upon slow braking when the transmission is down-shifting from gears 4 to 3 to 2 to 1. It's getting worse!!.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 08/18/2011

My 2006 Mercury monteago lunges forward when put in drive, and lunges back when put in reverse, wrecking my rear bumper and garage. Ford is very aware of this problem and does nothing about it.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 08/13/2011

I have a 2007 Ford Mercury Montego that the throttle has a mind of its own-it often fluctuates and I feel that Ford should recall this defect immediately before serious accidents occurs. It is an on-going issue and happens daily. There is no warning when the throttle fluctuates-it is something I must be coginzant about at all times. I have been to the Ford dealer to see if there has been a recall and if others have made complaints about this as well. . This has been going on for several months now and the last incident was yesterday!.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2005 Mercury Montego

Failure Date: 08/08/2011

The car was purchased in may of 2011. August 2011, the transmission started to violently jerk and act as if it were in neutral. When gradually applying the breaks, the car would begin to shudder. This would happen only if the engine was warm. By March 2012, the shuddering transmission and jerk was constant. I took it in to be looked at in April of 2012. The alternator was replaced, due to what we thought was a bad battery. The mechanic believed this caused the transmission to jerk. The problem was not solved. June 2012 the transmission was replaced by a Ford dealership for 5,000. July 2012 the car went into fail engine safe mode, the codes pointing to the throttle body. A mechanic cleaned the throttle body saying it might solve the problem. 2 days later the car went into fail engine safe mode again with the same codes with an estimate of $900. The car has 72000k on it and has had three major problems in the past couple of months.
