The throttle control transmission has failed me several times when I’m on the road. Thankfully it’s only left me stranded on the side of the freeway once but has made me stop during oncoming traffic several times. The wrench light comes on when the vehicle decelerates and I’m unable to accelerate. Once the steering wheel even locked. This happens at random times but because the code is pending mechanics can’t seem to find the issue. This has happened dozens of time where it just stops suddenly while driving. I am concerned for the safety of me and my family when driving this vehicle. Please get this issue resolved!.
I own a 2005 Mercury Montego. While driving various speeds, all of the instrument panel gauges would illuminate and drop to zero and the seat belt indicators would illuminate and chime. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The approximate failure mileage was 135,000.

The linkage that controls the gear shift allowed the car to roll while the car was supposed to have been in park. Moreover. The car was in park but wouldn't start. When the tow truck put the car on the flat bed, the car tried to roll off even though the car shift level was in park. The car was in park and the engine was off. And the key wasn't in the ignition. . The car was repaid to the tune of about $800. 00. It had to do with some linkage that runs underneath the battery box. Also the car wouldn't start.

While traveling down the road the lights went out in the car quit running at 60 miles per hour was almost rear-ended knocked up steering wheel ended up in the ditch. Had a new alternator put on twice a brand new battery had all the fuses checked everything redone 4 weeks later same thing all over again electrical problem with your car, this time being more alert of it I was able to pull over and save myself from another bad car accident there's a problem with your electrical in this car it's going to kill somebody it has cost me over $3,000 and now it's doing it again, huh complaints about this I am reporting it something needs to be done.
. . . We own a Mercury Montego 2006 two wheel drive v6, first time we. Bought it from a used car dealership I took it home it drove fine at the time it had 80000 miles on it went to my daughter's at night was coming home all the bells and whistles of the car went off acted like it was possessed scared me to death I pulled over shut the car off back on and went down the road fine, when I got home and park the car the car started to accelerate headed right to our house, I put both my feet on the brake to stop car from moving forward threw it into park, there is definitely a problem with this car.
I have owned this car for 4 years. I still owe more than its worth. My 3rd transmission just went out this morning! cvt transmissions are garbage. I was quoted 6000 for another used transmission. 4 transmissions in 4 years is insane!.
My car has a issue with electronic throttle, I called and was told sorry your 189,000 is over 150,000 limit to be repaired. I haven't had the car for 3 years yet. This should be a recall vs a customer care issue. I drove to my son's on Monday and car loss power a total of 14 times in a 2 hr drive. I was in heavy traffic. Seems to me Ford cares more about their bottom line then their customers lives. I was almost hit several times. I have had it in the shop and the alternator replaced 3 times, with them thinking this is the issue one being replaced yesterday after the one before hand only been on their a little over a month. Come to find out Ford knows about the issue with their electronic throttles on vehicles from 2002 and up to date. This is very bad business and I had purchased this car due to a accident I was in (no fault to my own) and I have a permanent disability of a messed up sciatic nerve. I was told no issue, boy was I lied to. This needs to be fixed and ASAP after I have spent so much in repairs already to find out that wasn't even the issue. Ford needs to step up before someone dies over the negligent of the electronic throttle. I would like to hear from Ford on what they are going to do about my vehicle. Also the wrench light comes on the engine light when it goes into loss of power. When in traffic, it's hard to get off the road stately when your car looses power.
The contact owns a 2006 Mercury Montego. While driving 50 mph up an incline, the vehicle jerked. As the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to accelerate and the check engine warning light illuminated. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.
Tl-the contact owned a 2007 Mercury Montego. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle jerked before eventually stopping. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 45,000. Oo.

When I started accelerating it would studder when rpms went up and then basically wouldn't let me go over 50. I took it into car repair shop and they said my throttle body needed to be replaced. I looked online and saw this was a recent recall. Have I missed out on this or what? I need some answers please!.
With only 70,000 on the transmission it began to hesitate when I would accelerate and buck when I would come to a stop. This became hazardous when I was trying to come out of a parking lot onto a busy street and the forward propulsion would hesitate closing the safe gap between oncoming cars and myself. This has been a known problem with the 2005 Mercury vehicles both in the cvt transmission and the 6-speed. I don't know why they have not had a recall on the transmissions since there are hundreds of complaints on the internet with this same exact problem. My first Montego passed the lemon law with the transmission problems when I first bought it. Now the second Montego is having the same issues after only 70,000 miles on the vehicle. I had too many close calls driving this vehicle with the inconsistency in acceleration. And the bucking and thumping when braking is severe. Something needs to be done since there are so many of us having the same problem. What will it take to get Ford, Mercury to rectify this known issue?.
Traveling at freeway speed, vehicle lights all flickered the lost power. . Engine continued to run, was able to coast vehicle to shoulder of 35w, apply brakes and stop. Turned off vehicle and restarted within a few minutes. No lights no dash lights. . Flooring the gas pedal able to get 30 mph uphill approximately. At top of hill power came back on. . Then killed again. Tow called. Currently at garage where sensors are showing transmission problem.
My 2005 Mercury Montego shuts off while going down the road. I have paid around $4000 to try and have the problem fixed and it has never stopped. The reverse gear is unusable, as soon as you put it in reverse it shuts the car off. The transmission jerks and will not steadily accelerate at random times. The car will randomly shut off when going down the road losing all power steering and power braking ability. This is particularly a problem considering I have an infant in the backseat most every trip. I saw this lawsuit and every single thing listed about the cvt transmissions has happened and is still happening to my 2005 Montego.
Drove car home day before, seemed fine. Went out next morning, car started fine, put into gear, car would not move. Check engine light, check transmission light, check traction control light all came on. Also the "wrench" light came on. Throttle will not work properly, won't let engine rev up. Saw the class action suit for these Ford cvt transmissions online, want to sign up for it as these transmissions are dangerous and defective, a well documented fact.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Montego. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, there was a loud abnormal sound heard as all of the warning lamps illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the technician diagnosed that the transmission was defective and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 160,000. Updated 3/14/cn the consumer stated the vehicle stalled in the middle of the road with no warning. Updated 04/01/14.
As I was entering onto the highway instead of accelerating the car decelerated and was losing power and rpm's went way too high then it should of. The transmission is not acting properly. The car has a clunking sound when hitting bumps.
I just pulled my car off the lot not even 10 minutes later there was jerking then my car stopped dead in the middle of a busy street. This has happended numerous times with the worst being on a one way and my neices no more than 10 years old in the car my car made a kind of a loud humming noise, jerked then stopped in the street. At times I can't even reverse or go up steep hills.
The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Montego. The contact stated that the vehicle made a loud noise while the gear was placed into reverse. In addition, the vehicle failed to respond while in reverse. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence and was neither diagnosed nor repaired. The VIN was not available. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure and current mileage was 49,000.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Montego. The contact stated while traveling at any speed the vehicle jerked violently and accelerated intermittently. The contact had to apply force to the brakes to ensure the vehicle would completely stop as it had continued to jerk in drive or reverse. The vehicle was taken to a repair shop mutiple times and the failure was not able to be replicated nor diagnosed. The contact stated when traveling a long distance there had continued to be a loud noise each time the contact had applied the brakes or changed gears intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the valve body kit needed to be repaired. The vehicle was to be repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Dyd.
On 2/27/13 throttle was cleaned not replaced per Ford recall 12no3. On 5/18/13 being stuck in construction traffic at a stand still, foot on brake engine proceeded like a 747 getting ready to take off. Car moved forward some 1 to 2 ft. . Killed engine, turned it on again with foot on brake car proceeded to move. Killed engine, turned back on. No other problem until I was at a stop light on way to destination. Again engine begin to whine at high rate as if I was in neutral and had foot a gas. Killed engine and was able to proceed to destination without problem. Took vehicle to Ford dealership on 5/9/13. Dealership did diagnostic, found throttle body bad. Had to be replaced. There was on or about 3500 miles on vehicle since time of cleaning to repair. Of the 3500 miles, 2000 was on our trip. Talked with Ford corporate stated dealership problem not theirs. Ford is aware of this problem and has chosen to clean rather then replace. It is my understanding that this throttle control ties into the transmission in which Ford has had their share of problems.
When accelerating I noted the tranny started to slip, I drive very cautious, not a speedster, I watched the rpm shoot to five and no speed shift, I drove the car for a while hoping it would come out of it, I was driving back and fourth some 4000 miles to work and had little time to get to mechanics finally my wife took it in they said 4 gear was missing in tranny, just getting back to work I had to look up a used tranny because the cost was well over 3000. I found a 2007 used tranny from a reputable used dealer , we place the tranny in at a cost of 700, the tranny itself 475, upon getting car back the tranny is doing it all over again, I am now taking it to a dealership to have it synchronized with computer programing to see if this fixes problem , I am not happy with the recalls on this car but if Ford refunds me and fixes I would be satisfied we love Ford truck and their products and feel Ford does take care of their customers.
Usually this happens after I have been driving a while and get off the freeway. I will be accelerating slowly and when I reach 30-35 mph (2 or 3rd gear), suddenly the rpm's will race way up but the car is just coasting and not shifting. I let off the gas and sometimes it will kick into gear when the rpm returns to normal. Other times it hard shifts into the next gear, sometimes the rpm will race again and I need to coast off the road and come to a complete stop. It's an intermittent problem and does not do it all the time. It won't do it when I take it to the dealer. I am afraid I will get rear ended one of these times especially if I am in a construction zone where I cannot get off the road.
Driving down road car just stopped in the middle road was running just would not go. Transmission trouble I guess Ford new about this I still owe 3000 on this car. Lots of peuple with is trouble.
The contact owns a 2005 Mercury Montego. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the automatic transmission valve body needed to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 51,000 and the current mileage was 51,487.
After driving car 20 minutes and once the car engine heats up the transmission begins to buck and jerk while driving under 40 mph. This is a ongoing issue and is very dangerous.
I am also in the group of bamboozled people that have the unfortunate experience of owning a 2006 Mercury Montego. Recently on a 90 mile trip about 40 miles in driving approximately 65 going up a hill I accelerated to pass a vehicle and my car suddenly and unexpectedly jerked and lost speed down to a about 45 and would not accelerate. The cars behind me had to slow down abruptly and were none to happy at my inconvenience. Since then I have had the same issue repeatedly each time getting worse. I can now feel the transmission getting week when I drive on the highway and its only a matter time before it goes out. This is a major safety issue as the you are not aware of when this will happen and the vehicle is difficult to control when jerking abruptly. Ford needs to do something. My car does have 116000 miles on it and I know cars are not meant to last forever but this is ridiculous there is no reason a properly maintained transmission. Should be having problems like this. I am certain this is a manufacturer defect. I went against my better judgment and bought a Ford because I thought the Montego was a nice car. I should have stuck with my 97 firebird that had 167000 miles on it, lost way less oil, and ran way smoother on it's original drivetrain and got 10 mpg better than this car. Never again Ford! you should stand behind your products.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Montego. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, the check engine and transmission light illuminated and immediatetly after the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for a diagnostic test who diagnosed that the mechatronics unit needed to be replaced. The dealer replaced the mechatronics unit but the stalling continued. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The failure mileage was 40,525. Pmb.
Car lunges forward and backwards when putting into gear (drive or reverse). It is extremely noticable to passengers and others. It is dangerous, as you have no control over the lunging motion that could possibly pin someone walking nearby as you are parking the vehicle. It appears this is a common problem that has been reported by many and action needs to be taken by the maker to correct the problem.
My 2006 Montego jerks and clunks feels like it is going to drop out. It also slips into neutral from drive . The trans jerks so hard it feels like it is going to drop on the street . First noted this with less than32000 miller. Also had to replace front engine mount $475 , full instrument cluster $1100 36000million. There is a lot of people complaining to Ford but nothing is being done. If not taken care of this will be my langford product. 3ford's inmyimmediatefamily now. All will be scrapped ordering for cars from a company that takes care of its customers. Ford new the cvt trans was a problem.
The car will shutter, shakes and bangs when the transmission down shifts to a lower gear when for example the car begins to climb a slight grade and needs a lower gear to maintain speed. Sometimes, during the same scenario, the car will shift momentarily into what seams to be neutral causing engine rpm to spike from 2,000 rpm up to 6,000 rpm. In either case, it scares you and you think something major is wrong with the car and you immediately search to get off the road and stop. The cars around you abruptly try to avoid your sudden decrease of speed. On the other hand, the car seams to accelerate normally while up shifting to speed although maybe the shifts are getting a bit harder than we were used to. The dealer replaced an engine mount anti-torque bracket for $600. 00 that they determined was the problem but it did not help. No diagnostic lights appear on the instrument cluster giving reason for the problem. We basically do not trust the car to travel any where because it is unsafe. I see many others on the web have the same issues with their Montego's. We have maintained our car very well during its short life. The dealer and transmission shops are perplexed to the solution of the problem. The dealer says now that maybe it is a "valve body" causing the problem but are not quite sure. $2,400. 00 dollars for a "not quite sure" fix is a bit much specially after already sinking $600. 00 into the problem. Ford, what do you think? time to issue a recall and admit there is a real safety problem here? be fair and help consumers remedy the transmission problems they are having with their 2005 Montego's before someone gets killed!.
The throttle body is bad on this vehicle. This is a well known issue that Ford needs to recall.
When shifting out of park or neutral, or from drive to reverse (or reverse to drive), the car lurches forward or back with no warning. This can be a hazard, if near pedestrians or if parked in a tight space. Additionally, if this occurs several times,(eg:parking) the car will stall & the repair "wrench" on the dashboard lights up. The car must be turned off for about 1 minute & re-started to get back to normal. This unfortunately is too common occurrence. Is Ford waiting for a fatality before taking steps for corrective action.
After the engine warms up, upon acceleration and the automatic transmission is shifting gears from 1 to 2, 2 to 3 and 3 to 4 there is a stuttering and often a jerking when the automatic transmission is shifting. This jerking also occurs upon slow braking when the transmission is down-shifting from gears 4 to 3 to 2 to 1. It's getting worse!!.
