Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Mercury Monterey. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked with the rear lift-gate opened, when the lift-gate unexpectedly closed. As a result, the contact suffered minor injuries when the lift-gate collapsed onto him. The contact also stated that the lift-gate would no longer open. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where they were unable to diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was 78,000. Sm.
