The contact owns a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that the radiator had a hole in it and was leaking fluid. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who will repair the failure at the contacts expense. The dealer informed her there was no recalls or warranty on the vehicle. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure mileage was 61,000. Updated 06/03/11.
I am the owner of a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer. It has about 64,000 miles on it, most of them highway miles. I have a leak in my radiator. The dealer says it is a defect in the radiator, and no corrosion is present. It is out of warranty, so I must bear the cost of replacement of the radiator. Cost ~$700. I do not drive off road, so there is no valid reason the radiator should have failed. During an internet search, I discovered this is a common problem with 2006 and 2007 Mercury Mountaineers and Ford explorers. This issue should be investigated, and Ford held accountable for putting defective parts in their vehicles.
I have a 2007 Mercury Mountaineer with 42,000 miles on it and was notified by my dealership that there is a leak in the radiator and it needs to be replaced. My dealership told me this was common problem with Mountaineers but Ford will not stand behind the equipment.
