36 Seats problem

Failure Date: 07/29/2011

The first time the following occurred was the first day I drove the vehicle. The dealership replaced the tumbler, but 1 1/2 years later it started again. While driving, I moved my foot from the accelerator to the brakes, and my knee brushed along the key fob dangling from the ignition switch. The seats then automatically retracted to the rear position. This happens on a daily basis, and seems to be extremely dangerous--particularly because it happens not only when moving my foot to the brake, but anytime. While I react quickly enough, I have children in my car at all times and if I was braking to avoid an accident, it would be impossible as I am only 5'5". Since my warrantee was only good for one year, it will now cost another $400 for a new tumbler, but I've never had a car where the tumbler is replaced every 1 1/2 years or ever for that matter. Am I supposed to wait for a fatal accident where either myself or my children are severely injured or killed?.

37 Seats problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that she applied the brake pedal while driving approximately 50 mph and the front drivers seat began to slide backward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The technicians stated that the ignition would have to be replaced because it was affecting the electronic feature on the seat and causing the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000. The VIN was not available.

38 Seats problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2011

The contact owns a 2008 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact stated that while driving 30 mph, the driver's side seat independently engaged into the easy exit position as the interior lights flashed on and off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection and repairs. The ignition and seat switch were replaced, however the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

39 Seats problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2011

While driving, the driver's side dome light came on and the seat moved all the way back. Now, when you start the car, the seat will move all the way back and has to be manually, with power button, put into a comfortable position for driving. The seat continues to move back by itself at random times. Many times the problem occurs when driving, even at 30 mph or less, over a bump in the road.

40 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/23/2010

While driving the vehicle on the expressway the dome light went on, the driver seat went fully back and reclined a little, and the pedals moved. This action would be consistent as if the vehicle was parked and the driver was exiting the vehicle. This would not be a concern for a taller driver but for my wife who is considerably shorter could not touch the pedals which could lead into an accident. This is a recurring issue that happens at least twice while driving the vehicle daily.

41 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

While driving the driver seat slides back into exit form and it is hard to reach the gas and brakes and the interior lights come on. This happens periodically while driving if you touch the ignition as if you are going to start the vehicle the seat will go back into place and the interior lights will go off.

42 Seats problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Driver seat moves back into exit position and interior lights come on while driving. This happens at any speed periodically and while going over bumps. I am very short so when this happens I have a difficult time reaching the gas/brake. I have 4 young children and this is a very big safety issue while driving.

43 Seats problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2009

I was driving along and the driver seat started going back. This is happening frequently. It will go so far back that I cannot reach brakes or gas pedals.

44 Seats problem

Failure Date: 04/08/2009

Memory seats change seat setting while driving without assistance of driver. While on a lengthy road trip, incident occurred 3 times. One of which nearly resulted in a collision when driver was forced onto shoulder of road to avoid traffic. Driver memory seat positions itself in such a position that driver is unable to reach brake and accelerator pedals. This fault seems to maintain control of the seat for a random and unspecified amount time forcing driver to maintain vehicle control and while attempting to maintain seat position.
