3 Wheel problem of the 2003 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/12/2020

Big o techs conned wife into buying 2 tires and we own awd SUV that requires 4 at the same intervals . I immediately notify them that this is not safe and will damage my car they continued for over 2 months to lie to me about having somemone comtact me . I have all the communications I've had with them through messages. A few weeks after they put the tires on and refused to take them off and put my old o ES back on and issue a refund well my transmission and transfer case failed I contacted them again and again they lied to me about someone contacting me . I took my SUV to the transmission shop we measured over 2 inch circumference difference. I informed big o that I have a TSB issued by Ford my employer that dates back to 2011 on tire circumference procedures for tire dealers to follow . The response I got was that big o refuses to review or acknowledge tsbs . That's alarming as tsbs are issued my the manufacturers for safety . I had my SUV fixed for 3000+ $ out of pocket and contacted big o the day I picked it up about the tires still being on there . I warned them this is dangerous and can hurt my new drivetrain the very next day from getting my SUV out of the shop the tires again caused binding to occur but this time it led to what should've been a fatal accident where as the awd system done it's job but the tires being off by so much made the SUV bind a three in into 3 360 degree spin and slammed the concrete median totaling my vehicle and injuring my wife. I've documented all messages with big o and have much more evidence related to this case that I'm unable to add in this description because I'm running out of allowed characters remaining . I did contact big o again and sent photos of my crashed SUV and suddenly they now won't respond back at all . I think this justifies a full investigation into there refusal to review tsbs and full reimbursement for all my.

6 Wheel problem of the 2007 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

Purchase 4 new tires March 9, 2013 from our local mr. Tire in marion ohio. They started going bad this summer. Went to manager and was told you never had then rotated as told. We did go after 6 months of purchase and told to come back next day since they were too busy that day. They were not nice and I called tire company giti tire and was told to have the store call them which mr. Tire never did, many life events have happened since then and never went back. The two back tires now have sharp metel coming thru as found by my son when I almost wrecked in the rain yesterday. The two fronts are going bald. The tires are runway enduro 816 - p235/65r18. They have 18, 660 miles on them with a 40,000 mile warranty. I do not have the money to replace 4 new tires.

7 Wheel problem of the 2008 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/05/2014

**I first noticed my tire pressure light came on upon purchasing my vehicle. The dealer said that the air may have been low and could fluctuate with the weight in the vehicle. He filled the tire that appeared to have been low and it turned off momentarily. A few days later it happened again and I would add air which alleviated again in the same tire, but for a few hours later it came on again which I found out ended up being an issue with all 4 of the tires. After several attempts of filling and refilling over a period of time and using "a filler" (can of air for flat tires) is when I knew then all 4 tires are defective. The air pressure goes on and off and has now stayed on! I am lucky if it turns off at all now! the tires are firestone destination a/t tires. **also the passenger side back panel (where the gas fill-tank hole panel is) was manufactured in properly as it is severely rusting, bubbling paint, and chipping away only but in this one spot. The rust size is the only spot on the vehicle in which is about the size of the palm of my hand. **I also have an outstanding complaint already with a very dangerous faulty cruise control on this vehicle which stales the vehicle and renders it uncontrollable while driving and in motion.

8 Wheel problem of the 2007 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 12/26/2012

Discount tire company informed me that they had a technical bulletin - wheel advisory that said; "do service the Mercury Mountaineer 18" oe wheels (2005 and newer) they found in testing that the front bead hump has a ridge on the balcony ledge which can cause bead damage when mounting. Tests were conducted where several types of tires were mounted and inflated on the oe wheels. The only tire they were able to seat at (50psi) was the original equipment michelin. After mounting and found that it had a damaged bead. During the test, they were not able to get a tire to seat without damaging the bead. The recommendation: do not service these wheels. Central florida Lincoln dealer (formerly central florida Lincoln Mercury) did not have any service bulletin on this problem. The only way I could get new tires for my Mercury Mountaineer was to buy new 17" wheels and have new tires mounted on them.

9 Wheel problem of the 2004 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 12/07/2012

I had picked up my kids from daycare and I put my vehicle in reverse and backed up. While backing up I heard a loud pop and I got out to see but there was nothing visible. So I put the vehicle in drive and as I was going down the street my vehicle axle broke and my truck hit the street in the middle of traffic. I took it to the Ford dealership and they said it was my axle and my differential had broken also, am I am lucky that I didn't have a bad accident with the extend of the damage of the differential. After I fixed that and it cost $2900. That still did not fix the problem and I had to replace the transfer case. Then all three of my Cadillac converters had to be replaced. I have had problem after problem and OH yeah the back rear gate has been cracked like the month after I bought it.

10 Wheel problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

I got into my Mountaineer and notice a familiar rumble. My wheel bearins went bad again! I will be replacing these for the 4th time now. This is on top of having to have the transmission rebuilt to the tune of $3700. I love to drive this car but it constantly needs repairs and the repairs need repairs. I can not afford a new car but I can't keep fixing this one!!! I have also had to replace the intake manifold only to find out Ford had a fly by night law suit and never notified people to have there intakes checked so that was another $300 just for the part. I think Ford should help us out that helped them out.

11 Wheel problem of the 2000 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 08/03/2012

I have a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer that I have had for 2yrs. Now. I keep up the maintenance on this car. I keep the oil changed tires rotated, brakes fixed, pass the emission test every year since purchasing it. I've had this squealing high pitch grinding noise comin from the rear tires. It is very loud. I have new brakes all the way around, shoes, rotors, pads,in it still makes this very loud noise. It has gotten louder since I have all new brakes. I don't know what this noise is, but I know its embarrassing to drive, cause the noise is so loud.

12 Wheel problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 06/02/2010

Right front wheel bearing went out and was replaced at 50,000 miles. I just replaced the same wheel bearing at 100,000 miles. The two rear bearings have also been diagnosed as failing and need to be replaced. This is the first vehicle I have had wheel bearing problems on.

13 Wheel problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 10/05/2008

While driving on the highway the front left original manufactures rim had a catastrophic failure. The rim in question after investigating it had a fracture that was perpendicular to the rotation of the rim which resulted in the loss of air pressure causing a secondary failure by the rim fracturing in the circumference causing the rim itself to separate into two pieces.

14 Wheel problem of the 2006 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 03/03/2008

My 2006 Mercury Mountaineer has intermittently jolted or lurched forward when stopping for lights and stop signs after speeds over 30 mph. Hasn't gotten away from me but feels as if I am going to hit something or someone ahead of me. Extremely scary when people are in cross walk. I took my car to the Ford dealer shortly after buying it used. The dealer checked it out and denied it was happening. That was years ago and tonight I saw numerous complaints on another website about this problem. Was looking because now I am getting a grinding noise from my wheels which persists after a brake job that didn't fix it as I thought. Both problems are separate but I see a pattern of them on this vehicle now.

15 Wheel problem of the 2002 Mercury Mountaineer

Failure Date: 01/09/2008

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. The contact noticed that all four wheels were beginning to corrode from the rear to the front. He took the vehicle to the dealer several times and was told that the wheels needed to be replaced. He was also advised that they could not repair the vehicle free of charge since there was no related recalls. He called the manufacturer and was told that they would not repair the vehicle free of charge as it was outside the warranty. The vehicle has not been repaired. The current mileage was approximately 71,000. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

Traveling I-95 n between baltimore,MD and wilmington DE when transmission started slipping in 2002 merc mtnr. Transmission slipping when shifting into 3rd gear at toll both. Pulled off hwy at rest stop but did not turn off engine. Pulled back onto hwy, accelerated and check transmission indicator came on. O/d light began flashing. Pulled off hwy, called for tow and was taken to local Ford dealership. Was told band was broken in transmission and replacement was needed at cost of $4361. Had just replaced left rear wheel bearing and rear parking brakes week prior for $650. Vehicle had 75k miles. Couldn't justify spending that much money on 6 year old vehicle that had left me stranded five hours from home. Traded vehicle (got annihilated on trade!) and continued my trip.
