Four problems related to tank assembly have been reported for the 1996 Mercury Mystique. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fuel tank lid does not open when the lever is pushed down from the interior of the car. It has to be opened from the trunk.
There was a leakage around the gas tank due a split, and the gas leaked out.
When driving consumer can smell gas fumes coming from the tank, and there is a leakage coming from the rear tank. The consumer filled up the vehicle with gas, he walked around the vehicle and noticed gas was on the ground.
If gas tank is filled to capacity, gas will leak from undercarriage of car. Consumer unable to determine where leak is coming from.
