Engine Exhaust System problems of the 1999 Mercury Mystique

Three problems related to engine exhaust system have been reported for the 1999 Mercury Mystique. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 12/28/2008

My husband and I was driving in traffic from an appointment and all of a sudden the car starts smoking within a quick second the front left side burst into flames, electrical windows wouldn't work and the brakes failed, the we had to ride traffic until we could move over to the curve at this time the emergency brake had to be used in order to stop the car and I had to move myself out on the drivers side.

2 Engine Exhaust System problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2000

I have not had any of these problems repaired. My mechanic said it would cost more than the car is worth, and even worse, it isn't paid for yet!!!!.

3 Engine Exhaust System problem

Fumes from exhaust were coming into passenger's compartment. Dealer and manufactuer have been notified.
