While driving at any speed, the vehicle stalled in traffic. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. The mechanic was unable to determine or duplicate the problem. The consumer talked to another consumer who experienced the same problem and the problem was with the module that controlled the computer module (possibly the ignition module) and a flight recorder was added and found the intermittent problem. (the problem hadn't been experience since per the consumer who experienced this same problem, not the consumer of this letter).

In March of 2002 the dash starting coming unglued and rolling up, which caused my defogger to pop out and not defog my windshield correctly. The car also stalls out when taking off from a starting position or changing to passing gear. The engine has to then be shut off and restarted for it to clear up. This will last about 30 minutes before it happens again.
My problem is that my car stalls when driven at any speed, whether I am stopped, turning or just driving. I have brought this car to the dealership to get fixed and they don't know what this is. This was accident related and my insurance said if it isn't accident related then I am responsible for the bill that the dealer will charge for looking at the car. Now this started happening when my car was hit in the front at over 40+ miles/hr. Am I protected by any law that will allow me to get this car fixed at no cost to me? I am driving a very dangerous car right now and almost got killed last week when I was turning off a highway and the car stalled, a rig was coming right towards me and at last second I got out of the way. This is very scary and don't know what to do for help! I was already handed a diagnostic bill for over $80. 00 and refused to pay because they never really found the problem. What can I do or who can help.

While driving at all speeds, the vehicle will stall, without warning. The consumer is having the ignition module replaced at her on expense, due to a similar problem that other models were experiencing, however consumer is not sure if the stalling problem is due to the faulty part.
Unable to fuel my 1998 Mercury Mystique without frequent pump shut down and/or gasoline spillage. This problem began in November 2000 and became progressively worse until repairs were made on March 26, 2001. The problem was linked to a product defect - a sticking flapper valve (TSB 98-15-3). A new flapper valve was installed at a cost of $ 224. 26 ($6. 07 parts & remainder labor and tax). The replacement of the valve has corrected the problem. While it is fortunate that no injuries or significant environmental damage occurred in this instance because of the defect, a high potential for injury and damage exists.
Vehicle would hesitate/ run rough, and stall at any speed, and/or will not start intermittently. Vehicle been in dealer shop, and the problem still reoccurring. Feel free to provide any further information.
We took this car to the dealer in may of 1999 because the throttle seemed to stick, then break free, causing to car to lurc forward into traffic. They kept the car but it would not repeat the problem so they erturned it to us and charged us over $100. Ever since the throttle would sometimes feel rough in about one half to one inch of travel but then would be smooth as silk. In Feb we took the car in for the smog check and the service person finished the test and put the car in reverse and it sat still, the engine at idle and it would not move. He shifted it back and forth then suddenly it shot out of the stall without warning. He said he had pushed on the foot pedal but nothing happened. Then on March 14, 2000, I was traveling at a steady speed of 50 miles per hour for about five minutes when I decided to accelerate to 55, the throttle stuck tight. I pushed very hard but nothing happened for about 20 seconds, then suddenly it released and my speed increased. At this point we cannopt afford to pay Ford $100 every time we take this in and they can't find anything. I'm sure it is a throttle problem. The smog mechanic thinks it may also have something to do with a switch on the transmission, as he said when it did it to him he moved the shift lever back and for and pushed on the foot pedal and it did not increase in speed nor did it move. Is there some kind of recall having to do with either of these problems? the dealer doesn't seem to think so. Thanks for your help. It has been and on going thing. When the problem occurs it is without warning. I have had a couple of scary occurrences. Once at a stop sign I pulled up stopped saw that it was clear, press on the foot pedal and nothing happened, the car sat still at idle, no reving just idle. I thought my foot was caught on the carpet so I pushed again, still nothing so I thoght maybe the floor mat had gotten caught under the pedal, just as I was reaching down to pull on floor mat car shot forward. Ak.

While driving in heavy morning traffic vehicle starts whining, then it stalls. Has to put gear in park to restart. Sometimes the overdrive indicator light comes on. Also, when pulling out in traffic, it doesn't engage in gear immediately, when putting foot on accelerator, it can cause an accident.
Ford can't seem to find a problem, they had my care for 3 days and gave it back to us, on the way home from dealer car cut out twice (stalled while driving). Called Ford next day had it towed again, still in shop, I had car for 1 1/2 days when this happened. Ford can not find a problem. . . And as if this date has done nothing to rectify it. We can not accept a car that stalles out while driving we has 2 small children that ride in the back of this care, each of the 5x's this car stalled out my children were in the care. . . We can not chance this. . .
