Ten problems related to defogger heater have been reported for the 1996 Mercury Sable. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Coolant turned to acid and cause corrusion to heater plug and water pump. Dealership is aware of problem.
Heater core failed twice. Never notified of recall. Spent over $1000. 00 to replace. No concern from any dealer.
Heater core failded three times within a year.
Had rec'd recall notice #98v198000 in mail. Contacted dealer. Took vehicle for appt. Had vehicle repaired. Been having problems with heater core which was replaced 6 times. Coolant system blowing into vehicle. Can smell it. Mechanic can not locate cause of problem.
When driving at any speed the vehicle starts to vibrate, and the acid content in the vehicle is too high. The vehicle smells like it is overheating, but there isn't any leakage. Contacted dealer, and took the vehicle in for service to for the heater core.
The heating core failed on three occasions, not able to be repaired due to design being defective. Yh.
Heater core failed. Steam & fumes were coming through the vents. Water was exiting from outside. Had no prior warning of any problem. Was previously recalled for heater core.
Heat and defogger do not work due to a faulty heater core. Driver is not able to see in wet conditions. Dealer has not seen vehicle.
The heater core had blown out 6 times since it was repaired under recall. Would start blowing ant-ifreeze inside of vehicle, even when air conditioner is off.
Owner had heater core replaced 3 times,and fumes still enter into the vehicle, owner thinks fumes can cause fire.
