Three problems related to door latch have been reported for the 1996 Mercury Sable. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The driver's door lock did not function properly. It constantly jammed not allowing consumer to open the door.
Interior system warning light comes on, indicating that the door is open when door is actually shut. Dealer has been contacted.
Anytime the weather gets under 32 degrees outside door handles freeze up. The dealer has tried to correct this problem four times. Door handles continue to freeze up, replacement of the inner door switch mechanism necessary to complete repair, design of the plunger that is metal results in freezing, replacement of the plunger with plastic rectified situation.
