Front Air Bag problems of the 1997 Mercury Sable

Two problems related to front air bag have been reported for the 1997 Mercury Sable. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Front Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2002

Front crash at 55 mph, and both airbags deployed. Passenger's airbag exploded as soon as it deployed. No injuries, vehicle was totalled. Please provide additional information.

2 Front Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2000

While driving onto the ramp of a highway traveling about 8mph in stop and go traffic barely tapped the bumper of the other vehicle in front, and both airbags deployed. Also windshield was shattered becayse a piece of the dashboard cover, where the airbags are hidden, hit the windshield and shattered it.
