general problems of the 2000 Mercury Sable

I was in a parking lot of a store, started my car, headed out onto a city street, turned right. All of a sudden my vehicle took off, started speeding up. I stepped on the brake, it slowed the vehicle down a little, but the brake felt like air and didn¿t feel like it was braking correctly. Luckily, I had a green light, went through that, kept braking. The car slowed down a little bit but then would not stop completely, surged a little more; I was able to pull into a parking lot; braked again, my car kept going at slow speed; I pulled on my parking brake, nothing happened. Then, I put the car into park, which stopped it. Then I pulled out the key. I called the mechanic I use. He sent a tow truck to me. My car is at the mechanics now.

I drove the car home after purchasing it and it was wobbling and I pulled off of the highway and did not know why it was making a loud noise. The mechanic siad a wheel bearing is broken on a tire.

Engine made a revving sound and all power was lost. All fuels look good and this car has less than 20,000 miles total because it was used sparingly by previous owner. No lights or indication gave warning that transmission would lose power. We are now seeing online that this is an issue. I had previously called dealer but kept getting hung up on. I am a widow with children and do not have the money to just tow the car to be fixed as this was our only transportation we have been limited on actually traveling to the dealership so they can check recall information for us.

If this had happened then, we surely would have been hit by a passing car. I have researched this a lot and have found this a common problem with these cars.

He depressed the brakes and tried turning off the vehicle speed control in order to slow the vehicle down but it continued to accelerate at a faster speed. I have a 2000 Mercury Sable with a speed control that cannot be turned off except by stopping the vehicle. I have had several close calls because the speed control was reactivated while driving. I cannot get any satisfaction. I am the original owner of this vehicle.

2000 Mercury Sable. The consumer stated occasionally while at a traffic light the vehicle will idle roughly and then shut down. While at the light, he has to keep it idling by pressing the accelerator. This has been happening for approximately six weeks. The vehicle has not been looked at for this problem.

Vehicle accelerated through an intersection, and only stopped when the front axle broke. Vehicle was towed to a dealership, but they couldn't indicated why the acceleration failure occurred, even when a diagnostic test was performed. Car kept lunging and hopping forward while the brakes were on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to determine d the cause of the problem.

I was turning into a driveway,almost stopped,car accelerated even though I was stomping down on the brake. I ended up in a garage door,causing damage to my car,their car and garage door. I took car to dealer,nothing wrong. Ford refuses to acknowledge any problem.

While making a left turn the vehicle suddenly accellerated without prior warning. The dealership is aware of the problem. Nlm.

While make a left turn onto highway vehicle suddenly acellerated and hit another vehicle. Dealership is aware of problem.

Involuntarily accelerates, unable to stop, and must be placed in neutral, and shut off.

Consumer was slowing down for a light when motor suddenly revved realy high, and vehicle proceeded half way through the intersection before it stopped.

With foot pressed down on brake pedal vehicle started to accelerate. Engine was racing, and vehicle suddenly took off and hit a building. Upon impact, none of the airbags deployed. Driver was unaware of speed. Please provide any further information.

On the first occasion I was stopped waiting in line to make a left hand turn, foot on the brake, the car suddenly accele rated as if someone had stomped on the gas pedal. I put both feet on the brake, car still was moving, I put it in park, engine raced so I shut it down. After restarting it returned to normal. The second time it happened, my daughter was driving in stop and go traffic, as she was slowing, with foot on the brake, car again accelerated, the car lurched forward and collided with a vehicle in front of her. She to had to shut down the engine for it to stop. I believe it to be a product failure and have reported it to Ford consumer affairs. It appears they have dismissed my claim without investigating it. This car is dangerous.

While vehicle is in park can turn on ignition key and vehicle will jump forward without a prior warning, and that had happened between two other vehicles.

When applying brake at slow speed vehicle surge forward. Consumer applied brake, but vehicle did not slow down. Vehicle hit garage wall. This happened two times. Dealer could not find cause. Vehicle has surged a total of 10 times, always when slowing down. Pedals were not adjustable.

While driving 55 mph applied brakes, and braking distance was longer than usual. Engine started racing. Consumer put vehicle in neutral to slow down.

Engine without warning accelerated tremendously causing the car to strike first the curb, then the library wall, causing considerable damage to car and library wall, airbag did not deploy.

Upon releasing emergency parking brake vehicle took off and crashed into a garage. Vehicle was parked on a very slight incline. Ignition was running, and vehicle was in park when this happened. Vehicle was towed to the dealership. Ak the manufacturer stated that independent inspector could not determine if defect was the cause.

While at stand still with foot on brakes, vehicle started revving up & took off. Hit vheicle in front. Second time at cross walk it happened again. Did not hit anything that time. Third time, had placed it in reverse and it took off backwards after revving up. Been to dealer twice for correction.

Applying brakes at 5 mph or less, pedal very rigid, no power assistance in evidence, engine begins to race on its own. Able to stop vehicle by shifting into neutral and standing on brake pedal. Vehicle returns to normal operation after brief malfunction. Compliance: owner's guide, page 223.

When the driver removes his foot from the gas pedal the vehicle accelerates, the dealer stated that all Sable's perform this way, the consumer believes this is a design defect. Nlm.

At 3 mph coming to a stop with foot off accelerator hit brake pedal. Car would not stop the more I hit the brake pedal engine would race finally could not hold it car took off at an increasing rate of speed even as I pushed harder on the brake pedal it was the brake pedal because if if it was the accelorator the car would have taken off faster final stopped it by shifting to neutral this car belongs to hertz corp salt lake ut they refuse to report problem so I( the driver) am reporting it!.

Vehicle accelerates when brake pedal is applied. Dealer has been contacted.
