I got in my car started to drive and heard something snap then smoke came from the hood and the car pulled hard right. I immediately stopped and parked the car. The coil spring broke and dug into my front passenger tire and it pulled the axle out of the cv joint. I was in allentown,PA. On a main road in the city. Feb. 8,2020.

Approximately 39,000 miles. No rust car. Rubbing noise and all tires with history of losing air. While replacing all tires, wheel tech noticed right rear coil spring was fractured and completely wore off interior tire ridge. Placed doughnut tire on and advised I take to mechanic to have all springs fully checked. Car currentlyat mechanic shop this evening. Right rear coil spring definitely fractured. Seems many reports of same nature on this model. Why no recall on rear coil springs with so many complaints? rubbing sound from beneath car has been noted and tires constantly needed air. Other issue(s): 1) ignition extremely hard to turn. 2) accelerator seems to stick upon attempting to decelerate by letting up foot pressure. I inherited this car from my deceased father. I was always concerned that he accelerated too quickly from a stopped position. Father took down a large concrete planter due to this type of car jerking, yet I thought it was due to his putting too much pressure upon the accelerator. Now that I am driving the car, I note that car does not slow when I let up on the accelerator, leading me to believe that the accident was not due to father's driving. This was never a problem with his former car. 3) driver's door makes loud clunk upon opening and closing. Are these known problems?.

Tl-the contact owns a 2002 Mercury Sable. The contact stated that while in reverse. The front passenger spring and strut fractured. The contact mentioned that the front passenger wheel was damaged due to the failure. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic. The technician verified the failure of the front passenger spring and strut. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 112,867. Pam.
After being parked for approximately 2 months over the winter, I went to inspect the Sable, and found a flat tire ( front passenger side), upon further inspection, I found that the coil spring had fractured, shot downward, and punctured the inner sidewall of the tire. The coil is not significantly rusted, and retains almost all of the original protective coating to prevent rust. On a ten year old car, I would think this is normal wear, but I remember that my 2000 Sable was recalled for the exact same problem, as was the 2001 model, and I have now found over 200 reports of the same problem in the 2003 Sable, and would like to know why a recall was never issued for this model.
Left front spring broke gouging an 8 inch tear in tire side wall causing a blowout and damage to anti-lock brake system. Transmission mount was also damaged. If this had happened at highway speeds, loss of steering control and braking could have caused serious injuries. Ford denies any responsibility. I was told that Ford had admitted frequent spring failure on its 1999 to 2001 taurus/sable vehicles and installed guards to protect the tires from blowout. This is second spring failure in 2 years. The first time was the right rear spring broke damaging strut and gouging tire but not causing deflation. Two spring failures on the same vehicle in 2 years indicate that it is not an isolated incident. This is time bomb waiting for someone to get seriously injured.
The contact owns a 1999 Mercury Sable LS. While driving 35 mph the vehicle drifted off of the road and into a wooded area. He sustained minor injuries. Upon further inspection he noticed that the corrosion on the chrome plated wheel caused the passenger front tire to lose pressure. All four wheels were replaced with alloyed wheels. The failure and current mileages were 122,000. Updated 04/01/10
the tire lost air pressure as a result of chroming of the tire sealing area. Updated 07/19/.

I own a 2003 Mercury Sable, in 2007, I noticed the paint on the passenger rear wheel-well was starting to bubble rust, my husband and I made numerous complaints to the dealership, at the time, they were undergoing a buyout and we had a difficult time getting any answers from anyone, once the buyout happened, we were then told all the computer files were being updated, they did not have any record of the issues we reported to the previous owners, so we started over. . . In July of 2008, finally got the manufacturer to share in the expense of the repairs as this had now passed the warranty timeframe, however, when the original problem was reported, we were quoted a repair estimate of $250. 00, by the time we received approval from Ford to go ahead with the repairs and they stated the repair estimate had increased to $ 550. 00 because the rust area had worsen. It is now 8 months later, and the bubbling and rust is starting to appear again. I have read several articles about Ford having issues with the paint used on their vehicles during the 200 - 2005 period. . Apparently - not too many complaints have been filed to warrant a recall, this is the basis for my compliant now. My car is taken care of, garaged, etc. . . . I have never had a rusting problem with an vehicle I have owned, and this does not seem fair that this car should be rusting, and for a second time within 8 months after the repairs.

The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Sable. Three of the steel wheels have developed cracks. This conditions causes the tires to lose air pressure. A technician from the dealer confirmed the failure, but referred him to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified, but no assistance was provided. The current mileage was approximately 98,000. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
I own a 2003 Mercury Sable platinum edition. I have experienced four flat tires in the last year with this vehicle (2/2005 to 2/2006). The first three I had repaired at a local tire store, as I was not aware that the problem was with the vehicle's aluminum wheels. In each case the wheels corroded around the sealing bead, or the valve stem causing an air leak. The corrosion occurs on the interior of the wheel, hidden from sight. The only clue is when the tires begin to lose pressure. The first flat tire occurred in February of 2005. The second and third happened in March and April of 2005 respectively. Finally the three wheels that had been repaired and the fourth began leaking, and in September 2005 I had all four of the wheels repaired at a local Ford dealer. In December of 2005 I began to experience tire inflation problems again, but the dealer refused to admit that there was a problem. Currently I am forced to check my tire pressure daily, and fill the tires each two to three days. The last flat tire occurred on February 23, 2006, but I was able to get the tire filled before it totally deflated. Please note this vehicle (platinum edition) comes equipped with special wheels not available on the normal LS edition. I feel that this condition is horribly unsafe, and at this point I am beginning to fear that the vehicle will become undrivable.
While driving 12-15 mph left front wheel disconnected from the vehicle. Dealer was not notified.
Aluminum wheel corrosion of my 1999 Mercury Sable leads to constant pressure lost. Dealer cannot repair, not covered under extended warranty. If tire pressure is important why is this not a safety defect?.
I have had this car for one year and one half. I bought it from ray hudson Chevrolet in la crosse ,wis. I had the car two weeks and the transmission had to be replaced. Two weeks after the front and back brakes had to be replaced. This was at the dealers exspense. I had to have a wheel bearing replaced and now after a year and 1/2 I have to replace the whole motor.

There was a noise similar to that of a separating belt in the tire coming from the left front wheel. The wheel was removed for inspection. We discovered that the chrome was peeling from the back of the wheel and was rubbing against the caliper when the wheel rotated. Upon removing the loose chrome, the back of the aluminum wheel was exposed. There was considerable corrosion on the back side of the aluminum spokes. This car has had very limited exposure to salt/winter conditions and this wheel is badly corroded. By the time this car accumulates 80k-100k miles the wheel spokes will have failed. I plan to contact the dealer and inform them of this situation.
Wheel well splash shields are loose and vibrate.
