Two problems related to check engine light on have been reported for the 1997 Mercury Villager. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Since September 1997 consumer kept taking vehicle to dealer for hesitation, engine light coming on , stalling, bad gas milage and sputtering. Dealer kept telling consumer it was due to reformulated gasoline. To dealer at least 12 times. Currently, vehicle is out of warranty, and dealer finds all fuel injectors need to be replaced, at cost of $1700.
Check engine light kept illuminating. When the vehicle was purchased the consumer noticed that the check engine light was on. The dealer reset it but it kept coming back on. It was later determined that the problem was with the speed sensor.
