The contact owns a 2008 Mini cooper. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the airbag warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. However, utilizing an obd reader, the contact recovered a diagnostic code indicating a fault with the passenger seat occupant detection sensor. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA campaign number: 15v205000 (air bags), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 85,000.

The airbag control module on the Mini cooper is underneath the parking brake and drink holders. Liquid spilled from the drink holder has rendered the module unusable and created a safety issue. Mini is blaming the customer for this issue.
