Air Bag Not Deploy Problems of Mini Cooper Convertible

Mini Cooper Convertible owners have reported 6 problems related to air bag not deploy (under the air bag category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper Convertible

Failure Date: 05/30/2014

The air bag light comes on and the passenger air bag light is also on even if there is a passenger seating. This is a defective part (possibly the airbag weight sensor) its just a matter of time before someone is seriously hurt or killed if the airbags do not deploy. A recall was issued for the same problem for the 02-06 models and this recall should be extended for later models.

2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper Convertible

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

The passenger airbag disabled light turns on intermittently, even when the passenger seat is occupied by an adult. The airbag might not deploy in an accident. The problem is caused by a faulty passenger seat occupancy sensor mat in the seat cushion. It failed once before and was replaced by the car dealer. Now the replacement sensor mat is also failing.

3 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper Convertible

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The air bag light is on and the passenger air bag is off light is also on even if there is a passenger seating. Based on the number of complaints here for the same issue, it looks like this is a defective part. This is a major safety issue where the airbag might or might not deploy in case of an accident. The dealer wants $1,200 to get this fixed.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper Convertible

Failure Date: 06/29/2012

Per my research, this a recurring problem with the 2006 Mini coopers. Numerous bulletin boards have the same questions for a safety concern if the airbag will deploy for the passenger seat. Took car to dealer for diagnostics and they gave us a repair price of $1200. 00 to replace the lower seat for the occupancy pad is defective which causes the light to come on for the passenger bag and also the main light in the dash. Not sure if BMW cares about safety of the people who have purchased their vehicles but it is a bit callous on their part for not doing a recall on the 2006 Mini cooper seat sensor. I have seen a regular BMW vehicle that has a similar problem have a recall for a bad seat sensor. I am concerned for any person who rides in the passenger seat if an accident were to happen that the airbag will not deploy causing great bodily harm.

5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2005 Mini Cooper Convertible

Failure Date: 02/06/2012

The front passenger seat weight sensor for airbag activation failed. Due to this, the front passenger airbag will not deploy in an accident. The only fix is a $2000 replacement of the entire front passenger seat.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper Convertible

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

The passenger seat air bag sensor turns off the air bags because of a defective mat sensor in the passenger seat. This is a safety issue because the air bags will not deploy with a passenger. Mini has a very expensive fix to replace the sensor at about $1200. Hundreds of Mini owners complain about this problem and Mini will not fix it. BMW issued a recall for the same part.
