When the vehicle computer detects low voltage all turn signals, lights and instrument cluster immediately fail and do not turn back on. The foot well module (fwm) or foot rest module (frm) computer becomes corrupt and deletes data from the module. This becomes a major safety hazard as a nighttime failure occurred causing several near accidents due to inability to signal to other vehicles. This is a known issue with Mini and they released an extended service bulletin knowing the factory footrest modules were manufactured incorrectly. Vehicles falling outside the initial warranty period are prone to safety risks when this occurs.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

I purchased the used 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman, I drove it for 84 days, and while I was driving the car the engine suddenly went dead on the road and stopped working. I took the car to the dealer where I bought it from after two weeks they said the timing chain broke and caused it to destroy the engine, now I have to pay for the new engine. I checked on line to see if there were any problems with timing chain on these cars, Mini said they had problems in the previous model cars that made and they fixed the problem, apparently the problem still exist in the newer models.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

Engine light came on so I went in for a diagnostic. I live 2. 5 hours from a Mini service center. The diagnostic at autozone just listed a bunch of misfires and nothing else. That explained the harsh sounding start and sputtering. As days have gone by, car will lose power in the middle of traffic, struggle up hills, fail to maintain speed limit, and struggle to start in the morning. All these events have occurred less than a month after being serviced at seattle Mini. I'm sure I'm under warranty, but I'm not happy about having to drive 2. 5 hours if I can make it there, for something they seem to have been having complaints about.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 08/19/2014

Our 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman was parked in parking garage. Within minutes of shutting it off the engine caught on fire which spread quickly. The car was completely destroyed. Other cars next to it were affected and the floor of the parking garage was closed due to damages. This is very serious and dangerous.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

The 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman has a poorly designed cup holder that punctures cups causing liquid to leak. This cup holder is not properly sealed and allows fluid (condensation) into the gearshift assembly. This causes the inability to shift gears properly. It will also cause the key to be stuck in the ignition. Mini will not take responsibility for the labor to fix the issue and will also not correct the problem from reoccurring. I believe this is a safety issue and needs to be investigated as well as a very expensive fix for the consumer. When I called Mini USA they informed me there was language in the manual that provided a warning about what cups were appropriate but I found no such language. There was barely a reference to the cup holders. They may have updated their manual since I purchased my car but mine did not have any reference to such a problem.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 11/16/2012

On a 2012 Mini countryman s all4 with manual transmission, starting at 15500 miles on the car, began noticing odd response to the throttle when accelerating on the highway. The clutch would engage and engine increase revs (200-400 rpm) to accelerate while not depressing the clutch pedal. This worsened over the next 500 miles until the rpm difference was 2000-4000 rpm. Finally, the clutch gave completely, with smoke billowing from the hood and obvious smell of burnt plate, even though I had not engaged the pedal while traveling on the highway in high gear. After allowing the car to rest during the day, I managed to get moving for 1/4 mile before stopping at a light. Upon takeoff, the car shuddered violently, and then disengaged from 1st gear and would not re-engage. Had the vehicle towed to dealer for replacement.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 07/28/2012

My Mini was stopped at a traffic light behind a Toyota 4 runner when I was struck from the back by a careless driver in a midsize sedan who had failed to see the cars in front of her stopped at a red light. The damage done to both the car that struck mine from behind as well as the damage done to the 4 runner were Minimal by comparison. The Mini incurred irreparable damage to the front end of the car. My concern is that the airbags never deployed and the driver of the 4 runner pulled me out of the car due to fire he saw coming from under the engine of the Mini, before long the whole front end was engulfed in flames. The car was declared a total loss. Should the vehicle have caught on fire? shouldn't the airbags have deployed with the gravity of the damage?.

19 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 03/06/2012

On 3/6/12 (vehicle mileage 4,743) my wife and kids were driving in our 2012 Mini countryman s and the engine suddenly went into limp mode with reduced power on the freeway and needed to be towed to the dealer. The engine computer was reset and the vehicle was returned to us. On 5/15/12 (vehicle mileage 9,318) the same issue occurred and the car again was towed to the dealer for the replacement of the valvtronic acutator. On 7/27/12 (vehicle mileage 13,140) the same issue happened again (engine went into limp mode with loss of power and my wife and kids were stranded on the freeway 100 miles from the dealer. The car was towed to the dealer and the vehicles computer was reset. I reported these series of incidents to Mini USA customer care as I do not believe the vehicle is safe to operate for fear of having my wife and kids stranded again and have requested a replacement vehicle or refund.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 12/09/2011

I was driving about 25mph when I saw smoke coming from under the hood. I pulled over and popped the hood and found flames in the engine bay. I didn't have an extinguisher in the car and there wasn't a hose in sight, so it burned for a few mins before a bystander stopped and gave me an extinguisher. The fire department came shortly after and doused the still smoldering engine compartment with water. There were no warning lights on in the dashboard before, during or after this fire. My countryman, built in April 2011 and purchased in may, has about 5700 miles on it and has otherwise had no problems. My research online indicates that other Mini models (cooper s, clubman) have had similar problems, and that the NHTSA is investigating some of these. Please consider adding the countryman to your investigation of Mini spontaneous engine fires.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper Countryman

Failure Date: 10/18/2011

My car is the Mini countryman all 4 year 2011. As I was driving on tonnele Ave heading towards rt 3 w, the car was on 3rd gear and I shifted to 4th. I felt that the car would not accelerate, and lose power. I had to move to the shoulder, while the car was still "rolling". When I got to the shoulder the car just completely died. The yellow indicator light was on, I looked up from the user's manual, it says, " full engine power is no longer available, you can continue your journey, but moderate your speed and exercise due caution. Have engine checked ASAP. " I then tried to restart the car, it cranked but wouldn't start. I called roadside assistance and tow truck came to tow the car after hour and a half. The next day, service department called and explained to me that there is a sensor malfunction caused the car to lose power. I immediately searched online to see if there is any recalls and or any similar complaints, I found a few other complaints with the same indicator light went off. All these owners have their cars for as little as a month to a couple of months.
