I was driving down the highway and my car gave me a warning that my engine temp was way to high. I was lucky enough to have a good place to stop and check out whay was gong on. I open the hood, the engine is smoking and the coolant reservoir is neat empty. I look and see a pool of antifreeze coming from the thermostat. This is the third thermostat I have installed on this car and the second faulty one I have had in 3 months. This is also the second time I have had to stop on the highway due to a badly leaking thermostat.

Thermostat housing failed and leaked. Some vehicle owners have received a Mini extended warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles, whichever occurs first. I had to pay for a replacement part and installation at a Mini dealer. Vehicle leaked coolant on garage floor and various parking spots. Mini is reimbursing some owners for this repair. I would like my VIN authorized for reimbursement.

On August 15, 2011, I drove my vehicle to work as I do every morning. On the way, I stopped for gas. After filling up the vehicle would not start. It should also be noted that the engine was very, very hot and the coolant overflow tank was overflowing. The car was towed to the closest dealership and, after investigating, it was determined that the engine was starved of oil, had seized, and would need to be completely replaced. This vehicle has always received regular scheduled maintenance since it was purchased new from Mini in 2008. The last service was performed by the dealership on a leaking oil pan gasket. Furthermore, there had been no warning signals whatsoever that the engine was in danger.
