Mini Cooper S owners have reported 5 problems related to door (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mini Cooper S based on all problems reported for the Cooper S.
The contact owns a 2012 Mini Cooper S. While attempting to exit the vehicle, the front passenger and driver side and the rear driver side doors failed to open without warning. The failures recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the door actuators failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired except for the rear driver side door. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

Mini cooper doors cannot be opened using either the inside or outside door handles under certain freezing conditions. This has occurred multiple times during freezing weather, usually when snow or ice is present. The failure occurs intermittently on both the passenger and driver side doors. At times, it occurs after the vehicle has been parked for many hours when temperatures are below freezing. However, it can also occur after the door has been opened and the vehicle driven for 30 minutes or more. When the failure occurs, neither the inside nor outside handles will open the door. The only recourse is to exit (or enter) the vehicle using the other door (so far there has not been an instance when both doors froze) and wait for the condition to rectify itself.

2005 Mini Cooper S with 42k miles. Driver side door fails to open from the inside. I can only exit the car by using the outside door handle which requires opening the window. If an emergency occurs which requires rapid exit from the car and there was a failure of the electrical system I would not be able to exit vehicle. 42k miles is fairly low and the car has not been abused. Mini cooper claims this is ¿normal¿ wear. It is not ¿normal¿ wear and is indeed a manufacturers defect which apparently happens to many Mini coopers.

Both door handles are inoperative from the inside. Dealer per phone call diagnosed "common problem" as the ballard cable disconnecting from the latch. After removing the door panel it was found to be intact. Problem is yet to be diagnosed. It is my assumption that there is a problem with the security system since the doors do not unlock when the ignition is turned off and the doors do not appear to try and lock when the vehicle reaches the set speed of 15 mph. This is a defect of grave concern since the occupants of the vehicle cannot immediately exit the vehicle in the event of a crash or fire and would be totally unable to exit in the event of an electrical failure.
Upon entering the vehicle doors froze. Once getting in the vehicle one cannot get out or once out cannot get in. Contacted the dealer. However, the problem recurred.
