Mini Cooper S owners have reported 47 problems related to equipment (under the equipment category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mini Cooper S based on all problems reported for the Cooper S.
Failure of the footwell module failed due to corrosion by water intrusion as diagnosed by Mini dealership. Windows, turn signals and lights were inoperable as a result of failure. This matched the situation outlined in your recall notice part 573 safety recall report 23v-337. Car matched the model/years affected/listed in recall. However, Mini dealer informed me my VIN was not listed in their recall. Subsequent research indicated that NHTSA/Mini limited the recall to cars purchased cars sold or registered in specific states (not part of the safety recall report). Ref nef-107dm dated 5/19/2023. I drove car in those states but did not buy or register the vehicle in them. I encourage you to have Mini extend it's recall/warranty to all vehicles which exhibit the safety failure.

I purchased a vehicle 2013 Mini cooper hardtop s r56 from chevy Nissan of walla walla on [xxx]. During the transaction, I was misled and not provided truthful information regarding the vehicle’s condition and terms of sale. 1. I was charged for services and items I explicitly did not want or agree to. When I first was looking at the car before purchasing, the salesman, coby, informed me that the tires were filled with nitrogen. I had no clue what that meant and I asked him if I was required to keep that in the tires do I ?” coby told me no I was relieved since I knew nothing of nitrogen in tires nor do I know where to get it. Despite my objections, a $299 membership charge was added and activated fraudulently, and I was not properly informed beforehand. This charge was for a one year membership to nitrofil. No one spoke to me regarding a yearly membership costing $299. It was snuck in on the entire paperwork and charged to me as well simeone activating the membership without my knowledge as well so therefore it could not be canceled. The only place in town that has nitrogen for tires is this dealership, chevy Nissan of walla walla. 2. “failure to repair under implied warranty:** within 30 days of purchase, (actually 2 1/2 weeks of me purchasing the vehicle, it developed issues to the back driver‘s tail light and reverse light sockets, not the bulbs. Both were malfunctioning and showing up on my car’s computer/ dash. Neither worked. This was considered be a safety issue with the car. Seems how no one would be able to see a malfunctioning light if it was not lighting up and possibly causing an accident . Replacing of this part would have been covered under the implied warranty (per the lemon law). Chevy Nissan of walla walla was contacted multiple times to repair these issues, but they failed to do so within the legal timeframe. As a result, I had to purchase two replacement sockets and pay a mechanic $50 each time to replace them . And the dealership h information redacted pursuant to the freedom of inform.
My Mini after the shop installed a new battery, the power windows don't work( can not roll up or down) as well as the lightning. I saw there is a recall for the footwell module for model 2007-2014 but when I call Mini, the agent told me that my car is not covered. This is a very expensive and important part to replace so please help me the best that you can. Thanks.
Hi, the component is the water seals around the trunk lid of the rear boot; this results in water intrusion. Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. Water has been collecting on the interior car body, including electrical components related to rear lights (brakes, turn signal, reverse) as well as resulting mold growth. Yes, the problem has been confirmed by weatherford BMW, and despite there being a service bulletin open (Mini TSB si m51 05 16) for a design flaw, BMW/Mini is refusing to fix the issue outside of warranty. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? only by the manufacturer. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? water intrusion caused the left taillight to short, and I received a warning light for this.

Car started leaking oil everywhere out of nowhere while both moving and stationary. Two different mechanics said it was the oil filter housing and related parts. Replaced housing, oil pressure sensor and the bottom screw. Works again. Car had under 45,000 miles at time of incident. Similar problems with the oil housing have been reported for other and related Minis, including some subject to recall.

Horn is not working. My husband has the same make and model and his is not working as well. I was on my way to work and tried to honk, on a few occasions, at other drivers that were about to hit me but the horn didn't work.
Takata recall, I have a 2007 Mini cooper that only has 84000 miles and have had to have the time chain replace 4 times. The repair garage is telling me that Mini keeps updating the kits for every repair. The time chain was replaced in 2009, 2012,2016,2018. Once thing they did tell me that I don't keep enough oil in the car, but if the oil light doesn't come on how am I to know this. I don't have $2000. 00 to $2500. 00 every couple of years to keep getting the car repaired. So I'm thinking about getting read of the car. Has anyone else had this problem.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Mini cooper. The contact stated 3 weeks ago they stepped into the vehicle and water was in the foot area of the drivers side. The driverside and the back left passenger area. The contact also stated that while driving you can hear water swishing around in bottom and the top of the vehicle. They do not know where the water is coming from. Their vehicle alarm goes off and they have to drive around for 15 minutes for the alarm to go off. The water is totaly soaking just one side of the car. The vehicle is an electric vehicle too. There was no warning light illuminating. The vehicle was not towed and the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was taken to Mini of manhattan (212) 586-6464 793 11th Ave, new york, NY 10019 and they were informed that they would not provide any assistance. The manufacturer was contacted and they did the same. The failure mileage was 70,000. Jw.

Passenger door seal failed resulting in flooding of the entire passenger side. Moisture caused the starting sensor to fail and the vehicle not to start. There was also rapid growth of mold in the vehicle from this moisture. The only resolution was to remove the entire interior, shampoo the carpet, and dry everything out. On-line research (after the fact) revealed that apparently this is a known issue but there doesn't seem to be a recall issued.
After coming home from a routine drive. I parked my car in the drive way. About 30 minutes later I smelt something burning and noticed my hood of my car smoking. I immediately ran outside and started housing of the bubbling hood with a garden hose. I managed to pop the hood and put out the fire which had cover most of the engine at that time.
On 2/11/2016 I got home from work and I parked my 2005 Mini Cooper S (53,000 miles) on the driveway, turn off car and stayed with my kids & wife since they were waiting for me outside, my wife notice a sound & smoke coming from the car, the smoke were coming from the engine, I immediately open the hood & there was more smoke coming out, the headlights & all the lights turned on & stared flickering, also the wipers turned on, couple of seconds later the botom of the engine was engulfed in flames. My wife ran to get the water hose & I were able to put the fire out, we were lucky that I didn't walk inside the house like I always do, it could have been a horrible tragedy for me, my family and even our neighbors. The next day I had the car towed to my mechanic who after an inspection found out if was the power steering pump that got on fire and damaged all the wires around it, since he is a Mini specialist he told us about a recall for that specific part, but to our disappointment he ran our VIN # and found that our car is excluded from that recall since its a late 2005 production. That exactly same thing happend to us with the actuators, one day while my wife was shopping with my kids, they just got locked inside the vehicle with the windows rolled up, it was a summer day and luckily she was able to get out through the back trunk, we contacted Mini because there is also a recall for the actuators and they also excluded our car saying that it was a late 2005 production and were not able to get the recall. The way we see it Mini is not taking responsibility for their defective components, it is not fair since I have no way to find out if my car was build with not defective parts, obviously it was. I am terrified by the idea this could have been worst since we r always driving with our kids. U need to do something about this & make Mini liable for these safety issues.
Experienced a loud rattle in the car, took it to the dealer, they replaced the rear shocks, but the rattle still has not been illuminated. I emailed the dealer and told him that replacing the shocks did not illuminate the problem, he said that Mini engineering is going to work on this problem, that evidently is occurring in this year and model.

The f56 horn is not sensitive, and requires aggressive pushing to sound, creating a safety hazard.
I own a 09 Mini s. About a year or so ago I noticed that the driver's side door was sticking whereas I had to jiggle it in order to open it. I took the door panel off to look for any obstructions and found none. I greased the door hinge and it worked better. I headed to the store one day and upon exiting the vehicle I heard a little different sound than usual at least I thought. After coming from the store I once again had to jiggle the door from the inside door latch and the outside door latch. I got the door open and decided to stop for gas on the way home. After arriving at the gas station I released my seat belt and attempted to get out but the door would not budge. After numerous failed attempts I could not open the driver's door. I headed home and in my driveway I tried for some time my usual technique along with repeated attempts with the unlock and lock toggle switch, I could not open the door. The window is too small to climb out at least for me so I exited the vehicle by climbing over to the passenger's side and exited through that door. This could of been a bad situation and a 911 call. The 1st responders would of arrived and tried to help me get out and if I wasn't nimble as I am to climb out through the passenger's side door they would have to call the fire department to come and cut me out of my perfectly good car as far as nothing else is wrong with it. I am the second owner and there are no modifications on the doors or any known accidents. I spoke with a mechanic and he diagnosed it to be a faulty door latch module. I haven't had it fixed yet.

I own a 2006 Mini Cooper S, which I purchased new in October 2006. About a year ago, I noticed that after slowing by stepping off / releasing the gas pedal, the car would jerk forward - at the time, I did not think it was serious because it happened a few time and it was not enough to cause an accident. After last Mini service in March 2015 - lately, I noticed that in stop & go traffic, sometimes after braking or slowing, the car has a hard time getting up to speed - sometimes gradually stepping on gas pedal as usual to start off again, I hear the engine rev up pretty loud so I let up on the gas pedal, and then try to step on gradually again - sometimes, it would take a while for the car to get up to speed. Also, lately, after I brake and switch from drive to reverse to back into the driveway, the car jerks back when I am not stepping on the gas pedal at all. I told the Mini dealer about this last week when the car was towed to the dealership because it would not start - the dealer found that the car did not start due to faulty circuitry in a fuse box, which was replaced with a new fuse box. The dealer said that what I described sounded like a transmission problem, and after the new fuse box was put in, the dealer took the car on a test drive to see if anything else was wrong. The dealer’s diagnosis was to replace the transmission at a cost of $9,000. My car has around 55,000 miles and has been maintained well. It is unreasonable for the transmission to require replacement at such low mileage and in such a short period of time - the car was barely used in the first year - it was driven mostly within the last 7-8 years. As a result of this incident, I have been made aware that many Mini cooper owners have encountered this transmission issue, which has the potential to result in collisions since the car will not accelerate as expected.
I was driving on the road my I turned the ac on and about 20min of me riding in the vehicle me and my infant son my my vehicle started smoking under the hood heavy white smoke under the hood of the 2006 Mini Cooper S. My car began to loose power while engine bay still heavily smoking I managed to get car in a nearby dealership get my son and I out of the car I put water on the side of the engine that was burning to keep the rest of the car from burning up. The rest of the car I had to call my insurance company the car wont do anything at all the electric system or the wires burnt under the hood.
Oil feed line going into turbo is leaking oil directly onto turbo. Mini uses a rubber o ring that is connected to a very hot turbo and o ring will fail on all Mini coopers with a turbo. When this rubber o ring fails it will leak oil directly onto hot turbo and cause a fire. I think it's in the safety of all that this be looked into and recalled. I believe Mini cooper is very aware of the problem and is covering up the issue by installing a cheap heat shield on oil line but this is a bandaid fix at best.
Blue black smoke from front grill of warm (20 miles) driven car. Car was off and parked in highway 40 mcdonalds restaurant parking lot next to a 10,000 gallon heating fuel tank. Parker fuel company employees put out the fire in the engine compartment just below the engine. Note the battery was disconnected immediately before opening the the bonnet/hood at which time the smoke and visible flame was extinguished 5 times via 1 small (depleted) and 3 times ending via a 2nd larger parker fuel company unit. Howard county fire and police vehicles arrived after fire had ended. Car seemed normal over 20 mile portion of trip on highway 70 + 40 @ 70 + 55 mph speeds. Flame could be be viewed originating under engine when looking downward in space between engine and firewall below exhaust manifold. Not sure if fire was from power steering pump drive (electric motor), power steering hose(s), ps fan or compromised oil pump volume control solenoid valve leaking oil on very hot supercharged engine exhaust. I was very lucky that the 4 minutes I was inside mcdonalds ,that multiple parker fuel company employees arriving to work had seen the smoke and had multiple fire extinguishers and training to put out fires. My car would have completely burned up in the time it would have taken the fire dept to arrive. The 1st parker fuel company employee was already at my car with pliers to disconnect the battery as he knew it was not steam from a radiator, but black smoke from a electrical, gas, oil or rubber/plastic sources being difficult to extinguish.
In 2013 my Mini started to overheat. I had the fluids checked and everything was ok. I drove approx. , 10 miles and the car completely overheated, the oil light came on and the car smoked and almost caught on fire. I had it towed to the dealership (Mini northwest in fife wa,) they said there were no recalls and I needed a new motor and cooling system. I paid 7500$$ for a new engine installed by the Mini dealership in July 2013 at my own expense. On Dec, 23rd 2014 I drove my Mini approx. 12 miles and parked the car in the driveway. The car was not overheating, no warning lights came on, 15 minutes later the car had flames shooting out from the hood. Fire extinguisher would not put out the fire. The car then moved approx. 5 feet forward up against the house and became completely engulfed. The tires blew up the sunroof blew up and then the back window blew out. The car is a complete loss. Mini claims they have never heard of this before, yet there are several articles of the same thing happening to other cars, including a class action suit and recalls.
A "pop" was heard when I was driving my vehicle on i95. I was able to pull over to the side considering when the "pop" occurred, my Mini lost power. As I was pulled over, the vehicle burst into flames.
8/13/2014- I was stopped at a stop sign in a mall parking lot and smoke started billowing out from under the right front side of the car and at the same time started coming through the vents into the cabin of the car. I tried to shut off the car, but it would not turn off. A bystander came running and opened the hood, smoke poured out, told me to call roadside assistance as he was opening hood and then told me to hang up and call 911 that my car was on fire. Flames were coming out of the engine area but there was too much smoke. The engine fan was still running. Another passerby had an commercial extinguisher and emptied it on my vehicle. The fire dept. Was pulling up as they were trying to push it aside, the car re-ignited and it took the fire department approx. 15 to make douse the fire without it re-igniting. All of these people looked my vehicle over and could find no reason for it to ignite. I purchased the car used about 4 weeks ago and have put about 3000 miles on it without any issues. My insurance company had it towed to a mechanic down the road and they are to contact me tomorrow to see if they can see why this occurred. Luckily, my daughter and I were able to exit the car and be in an area close to the fire department and good samaritans.

My car started to act funny. Almost sounding like it was suffocating. It would die about ten to fifteen times every morning before I would finally get the car started. It would shut off when I stopped at intersections. The only time it ran decent was when I was driving highways speeds for 20 minutes or more. I changed out filters, spark plugs, and fluids but none of it changed the way it was running. Come to find out it that the chain and chain tensioner had broken. This damage caused roughly $1000 to fix. Luckily I caught it in time before it did additional damages to the crank shaft. With low miles the mechanic even told me its a fault part and brakes easily. He has had to replace numerous american model Minis in italy. My country code is 39 if you call.
On February 6, 2014 my Mini Cooper S was serviced at the dealership Mini cooper of concord for a recall in the power steering pump. Shortly, after in March my car started to smoke from the engine and my car bursted into flames. The fire department came and turned down the fire, however my car is a complete loss. I called Mini cooper of concord, however no one could provide help. I also emailed the head of the dealership and there was no response. I investigated online and noticed that many people had similar problems with the water pump leaking and catching fire in the engine. I called Mini USA and filed a case, and they promised to respond within 3 days. However, they did not only until I called various times and finally was able to reach a representative. James informed me that there was no way to evaluate the Mini cooper was as at fault and only tried to sell me a new car. I am very disappointed with Mini cooper's customer service and lack of support. My car is now a complete loss.
I tried to start my car and only heard a spinning sound. First I thought the transmission or starter would need replacing but after having it towed to the Mini dealership, I was informed it is thetiming chain. Upon further review I was informed that the timing chain belt had shattered and bent the valves, and now the pistons are blocked and a plethora of other things. The total to repair this domino effect of damage is above $8,000 and just the chain alone is 1500 but I was informed would be a grand mistake because the car will not run. I am a college student who is financially challenged and am now in too deep to even try and float.
Driving on 405 fwy in southern California turning out of freeway off ramp in the pouring rain. The car dead stopped. Very dangerous, cars coming off freeway behind me was a 911 situation. After someone pushed me off to the side of the road had car towed. No engine light warning to indicate problem of tensioner (timing chain breakage). Entire engine was replaced/rebuilt because of extensive damage to engine. BMW apparently is aware of the timing chain defect and has not issued service bulletin or recall. I'm hearing there is a class action suit because of the many complaints. The fact that I could have very easily been killed or seriously injured is why I am issuing a complaint (not to mention my bill for $6200. 00 I have on my credit card) and the three weeks it took to fix. Naturally I was 6 months out of my warranty.
As I was driving the car, the hood in the front started to release smoke. There was also a smoking smell. This continued throughout the ride. Brought the car to a mechanic who indicates that the car is leaking oil onto the engine, making it extremely dangerous to drive as it can cause a fire. This problem continues to exist after I replace the oil pipe.
