1 Other Fuel System problem of the 2015 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 10/06/2025

The fuel filling nozzle turns off repeatedly (as if already full) while filling the fuel tank. About 1/4 to 1/3 of a gallon of fuel will go in before it turns off, backs up, and the gas overflows onto the outside of the car and onto the concrete. It happens regardless of the pump being used. It started happening occasionally a few months ago if the tank was refilled when a quarter full. It now happens consistently, no matter the fuel level. I had the car put on a lift and the system diagnosed today. The mechanic said the cause is a faulty service valve within the fuel tank assembly. They also said it is a known issue with f56 Mini coopers.

2 Other Fuel System problem of the 2013 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 09/17/2024

Yes my Mini cooper 2013 I was just driving normal speed 35 to 40 miles per hour and all the sudden my engine has just quit and stopped running I was not in any danger or in a crash I was able to move my car off to the side of the road and unfortunately this was only the first time the second time was actually on the highway I was scared to death because I was actually came to a halt on the freeway but I was able to push my car off to the side and be out of harm's way my car is now parked in front of my house due to engine failure and I don't know what else to do but I saw this recall and I thought I would give you guys a shout and tell you what's wrong and the only thing I replace so far was a new fuel pump and unfortunately that was not the issue my car was still not run or start and now I noticed there is a broken seal in the air intake that looks like it needs to be replaced.

3 Other Fuel System problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 10/22/2020

I love my Mini Cooper S. But there is a issue. Today I started up the car and it starts smoking. Twice this has happened in two weeks. When I bought it 2 years ago I noticed on the inside of my hood of the car it's a black burnt mark. The dealership said the problem had been fixed. Last week I took it to a oil shop and they said my turbo is burning my car and would catch fire soon. I'm in the process of getting a new turbo but this is a big problem cause now it's smoking only when in idle or started up. But the hood is super hot after a short drive. I hope your crew can look into this part and save someone the terror of a car on fire. Thank you for your time.

5 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 12/18/2018

While driving a 2009 Mini Cooper S at over 35 miles per hour the engine lost power and would not restart. Mechanic diagnosed it as a high pressure fuel injector failure and Mini refused to act in good faith and replace the product despite issuing an extended warranty on that specific component in a safety bulletin.

8 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

I purchased a brand new Mini Cooper S in 2009 w/ standard 3 years of factory maintenance and I later added on an extended warranty a few years later. 2014 I entered into a 3 year lease on a BMW. Aside from maintenance, the Mini was mostly garaged except for maintenance until th after a month of driving it, I heard a ticking sound that made me think it needed oil added, despite having one about 2 months prior. I added the Mini synthetic oil to the car and the ticking sound stopped for a week or two. Then it started rattling and shaking severely when driving low speeds or at an idle. I checked the on board diagnostic systems, which is supposed to check oil levels and the general health of the car. No issues came up but I stopped driving it because I saw the oil light come on, and I know that couldn't be good, especially since oil was added between changes. I had the car towed to an independent Mini mechanic, they told me that the timing chain needed to be replaced, there were holes in the turbo line and some various oil leaks. Their estimate was roughly $2500 to make the car drivable again. Spoke to Mini corporate, urged me to take it to Mini dealer for diagnostics so corporate to see what help they'd offer me on these issues because they knew the timing chain belt was an issue and they knew the car burns through oil 50% faster than their electronic system and owners manual says. They were aware of this in 2008 and it affected several Mini coopers to the extent of blowing out their entire engine. A class action lawsuit was filed because Mini failed to issue a recall, warn buyers, or notify current ones. They extended the timing chain belt coverage to 7 years or 80k after the suit. My car has 73k but it's 7 years going on 8. The dealer confirmed diagnosis but Mini won't offer any help on the 3-4k repairs. If this happened 9 months ago, they would cover it.

9 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 09/09/2016

Fuel smell started to get stronger in the cabin and outside of the vehicle, but did not see any leaks on the floor till today. I also notice the green temperature notification come on today. I had my oil changed at the BMW/Mini dealer in ontario last month.

10 Other Fuel System problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 10/17/2015

Purchased car April 2014 w 46,000 miles. Warranty history showed valve gasket replaced. At 64000 miles dealer says it needs to be replaced again. Not told at purchase - at Mini dlr - that car consumes a quart of oil every 700 miles which I was just told by local servicing dealer that they consider that normal. Leak at gasket contributes to air infiltration and poor oil consumption I was told. I would not have purchased the car knowing this. It adds considerably to the operating costs. After telling servicing dlr this weekend that I knew the car had already had valve cover gasket replaced, he said he would cover 75% of over $800 cost. He obviously knew that it didn't or shouldn't need that work so soon after being done. The Mini dealers are thieves and withhold vital information. The strut mount apparently is also "domed" which speaks to structural integrity of this car. I would never recommend a Mini to anyone and feel their practices are completely unethical and the build quality is substandard to what is considered normal. Who needs to have the valve cover gaskets replaced twice in under 65,000 miles? who has to go and buy oil every month and a half? the last car I owned that needed that was a 20 year old 1975 pontiac with over 100k. Miles. Garbage.

11 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

When the car accelerating on the first and second gear, there was a small jerking motion. Took it to the shop and they didn't find any problem with the car. One the day of the incident date, 01/08, when I started the car, the car have a loud engine sound, sounds like the car is chocking for air. The engine light is on with the rpm pointer running up and down (gas paddle is untouched). Took it to the dealer and the next day and they found there is oil leaking from the oil feed line to the turbo. $1200 to replace the part. Did some research online and found many Mini owner had the same problem.

12 Other Fuel System problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 07/24/2014

While idling at a red light, vehicle rpms varied dramatically and the engine shut off. Vehicle was able to be restarted and moved with the check engine light illuminated. Upon further investigation the valve cover was found to have a vacuum leak, which has become a common issue with Mini Cooper S models.

13 Other Fuel System problem of the 2004 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

Merging onto interstate I accelerated and suddenly lost power. Engine was running but I could not get any speed. Eml message lit up on dash. This was very dangerous situation, losing power as I merged with traffic that was going at highway speed. I managed to limp to side of the road. Shutting off car and restarting reset something and eml message disappeared and engine operated normally. Googling problem showed my experience was not unique and that could expect it to occur again. And it seems dealer can only diagnose source of problem if error message is on.

14 Other Fuel System problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 02/06/2014

Turbo charger fuel supply line is leaking on my 2008 Mini Cooper S. The dealer suggested a replacement cost of $750. There are many complaints online about this issue and the leak is happening due to poor design. The leak may cause fire damage and might cause extensive damage to the car.

15 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

Ran a diagnostic test and these warnings came up - 2d52 super knocking 2dcd fuel shut off due to super knocking cylinder 3 2968 inlet camshaft sensor 2b64 intake manifold, unmetered air based on all of these sound like my Mini cooper has bad fuel and/or serious carbon build, I've just purchased this car from a dealership and I am experiencing delays in acceleration, loss of forward propulsion.

16 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 05/08/2013

I have been experiencing a major flaw with oil supply/return lines to the turbo. A condition exists where if left unattended and uncared for creates the high risk of fire and subsequent loss of engine/vehicle. This event can happen at any time the car is being driven and/or later parked. The risk is created when oil accumulates, either through time or over a leisure drive, and collects near/on the exhaust manifold & turbo components, both of which operate at extremely high temperatures. It is becoming a daily task to look under the car hood and investigate for accumulation of oil near these parts due to the fact that the car smells of burning petroleum. Need I be more apparent of burning oil that will burn and destroy a car due to a faulty product? this has been occurring for the majority life of the car but he issue has never been professionally addressed due to disregard of the Mini/BMW dealerships to accept this design flaw. If researched further, there are many standard examples of this design flaw and numerous descriptions, images, examples, forums, and complaints of this flaw occurring in many cars of various styles, mileage, and trims occurring within the same year model of 2007. I have also experience many of the major flaws already listed and complained about on the nhsta such as the ¿death rattle¿ belt tensioner failing (luckily no catastrophic engine failure and which has been listed numerous times on nhsta, numerous), valve cover replacement (also listed), etc. Nhsta, address this problem as it is an avid and dangerous safety issue. The common person does not check under the hood daily and its only time before someone parks their Mini in a garage and the home goes down in flames. I personally don¿t park the Mini in the garage for fear of fire. Do not repair the Mini with the same faulty oil line design. Recall design.

17 Other Fuel System problem of the 2006 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 03/27/2013

As I turn on the engine, battery light came on, 5 seconds later, engine started to smoke. I turned off the engine. Engine won't turn back on and lost all power, steering wheel won't turn. Before this incident, gear would shift up and down on it's own while I'm driving. Very dangerous!.

18 Other Fuel System problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 03/15/2013

Turbo oil supply line from engine to turbo leaking excessive oil requiring replacement. Poor engineering design of compression fitting led to premature failure. Continued operation of vehicle with this condition would result in catastrophic engine and or engine turbo failure. Mini of marin was notified of the ongoing issues and were told they hadn't heard of the issue. Car smokes up if driven slow. Must be addressed in recall.

19 Other Fuel System problem of the 2003 Mini Cooper S

Failure Date: 08/04/2004

While driving vehicle 20 minutes with no problems the vehicle stalled, the check engine light came on, and within seconds there was fire through the firewall, into the car. I jumped out and the car is now ashes. Mini has informed me that the can't diagnose the problem, therefore hey do not feel that they are responsible.
